    Having been on many open gangway trains before (mainly in Hong Kong and Paris), I’m finally excited to try these out! And hoping that the second option order could have these, depending on their success!
    It was also wise to have both the hard and soft shell sets in service, allowing customers to try both styles out. I wonder how the other two sets will end up once the enter service.

      Open Gangways can manage shaper turns so it shouldn't be an issue but the BMT Eastern Division has tighter curves so we probably won't be seeing R211T's on BMT East once the MTA approves the second option order the (4-car) sets are going to be R211A's while the (5-car) sets would be R211T's

    • @samuelitooooo
      @samuelitooooo 8 місяців тому +2

      @@xpdev0 Gothamist published an article this week relaying an internal MTA memo that prohibits these open gangway trains from running on express tracks.
      That rules out the B, D, N, and Q, which are all express at some point, as well as the E and F. I forgot about the W, though CBTC isn't even on the roadmap for Broadway at all. Still, that leaves the C, G R, and W as eligible.
      I'm not worried about how it'll handle curves, in terms of structural integrity. One of the first clearance tests that were done was to take them to the tightest curve in the system, as well as the tightest S-curve, both which are at yards. I'm slightly worried about how people will learn to stand next to the gangway area, but riders should already be familiar with articulated buses, and tourists … are more likely to have already ridden trains like this lmao.

Too short to grab hold of the strap hangs. Feeling like I was riding the Coney Island Cyclone as the train jerked and rattled down the track. The sound through the open windows in summer, almost deafening at times.

      LIRR and Metro North had these type of open gangway cars for years upon years! It’s just the subway system that lacked them. They got screwed with a previous train deal. That set them back financially. They are finally now able to get these trains. I believe they may still have the previous manufacturer in court over those trains.

  • @EonityLuna

    The interior of the gangway looks somewhat similar to the C830C MRT trains here on Singapore’s Circle Line. It does seem like the gangway’s narrower on your trains compared to ours in Singapore, but then again given that your subway cars are somewhat narrower compared to our MRT trains (10 ft or just slightly over 3 metres vs. 3.2 metres or around 10 ft 6 inches) that’s kind of to be expected, I guess.
    Also, it’s good to see New York finally getting open-gangway subway cars. Metro/subway trains with gangways have long been a staple of other metro systems around the world, and it’s long overdue for New York to finally get such subway cars as well.

      I saw C830 many times and i can't wait to see them in person because things look small when watching in devices. Infact i would also be pretty exited for the future line C metro of my city which is coming in 2028 due to delays of the virus normally was planned in 2024 (the city is toulouse i guess) because of how large the new train would be its 36meters long extensible to 48 meters if needed only an extra wagon between the train normally its 9 wagon max which will make 162 meters! Could be the longest train in Europe! The brand is alstom metropolis its pretty new the width of the train is 2,70 meters large enough to fit all the passenger in a crowded station it also have sideway chair and deleted the folding seat to avoid crowds its open gangway too! And the open gangway is larger than the open gangway in the c830 somehow. The design the most coolest i ever seen

    I mean it looks quite nice. The interior appears nice looking and the information screens seem promissing (idk how practical or good the interior actually is, compared to the old rolling stock).
    However, what i, as an european, never understand is the outside design when it comes to american trains and metro-trains. Because nearly all new trains already look quite outdated in my opinion.
    Like, when a western european city f.e. (or an industrial important asian city) order new rolling stock, its really a new, modern train. On the outside and the inside. Bigger windows, swinging doors and a better use of the avaible space and a new, more futuristic frontdesigns and colour scemes.
    In comparison, these trains look nearly identical to their predecessor. They have a similar front and side design, the same door mechanics and the gangways look super narrow compared to comparable metro trains in europe.

    I remember back in the 80s I used to ride btwn cars anyways, sitting on the chains while grabbing onto the upper hand grips btwn the two adjoining cars... this wasn't possible when two R40 slant-faces were hooked-up together, but that in itself allowed for an awesome open-air "convertible" ride, with up to over a dozen people at a time! Until the police forced us back in. 😊

    OMG look at how run down that first station looks.😮Yes I know how old the system is and it looks Dreadful. I can't even focus on the new trains. Just think of all the tax breaks given and lost Revenue that could have been continuously put back into the subway system.

    Not sure why the lights are constantly green. They are supposed to be constantly red and only turn green when doors are open and people can proceed to enter / exit.
    Then turn red again to indicate closing doors.

    • @Peter-mj6lz
      @Peter-mj6lz 8 місяців тому +1

      They seem to pre-indicate what side the doors are opening on. I get the impression that maybe some people didn't like an announcement of what side the doors would open on as the dot matrix screen also silently shows the information.

    If only the new trains were fixed full-length sets instead of two half-length sets combined. That way, it would’ve been possible to walk the entire length.

    These train cars are very modern and space age looking. The LED lights and digital screens really make you feel like you are living in the future. It's so cyberpunk, yet other Metro's have had this already. These trains I also feel like it coincides with when humanity starts venturing into low earth 🌎 orbit and perhaps beyond. One of those if not most of those astronauts when visiting New York would ride these very trains... 🌌 🚃

    Everytime I see videos like this I can't help but think about what people who don't know a lot about trains / whats going on in the MTA are thinking. Like do they see this and just think its regular? Or do they notice the differences for a few minutes then just go on with their day? I'm just so curious about how they don't get super excited when they see something new 😭😭
