At 9:19 to 9:27, throwback during M train was brown by using the R42. That gave me my childhood times while my grandmother was alive. Rest In Peace to my grandma tho.
@@Bassotronics My apologies my friend, I didn't scroll down far enough to see the comment. I saw the "Sex Street" comment and was cracking up after the first part of the video showed the "J" on the back 🤣. Side note: you have an Awesome sense of humor 👍🏽.
@TheLordAI The R40M, R40S, R38, & R32 got those same doors during GOH. I'm guessing it was done to save cost even tho the windows doors don't line up with car bodies on the 40 & 42.
For me as a kid, the B train was always iconized by the R42 Slants. Even after they disappeared and the R68s replaced them, I always associated the B, J, and other trains with a "rough" look that the R42s embody.
No, although the R40 and the R42 type cars were both built by the Saint Louis Car Company, they were built in different orders. With the R40 type cars, there was a variant of "nonslant" R40's that were built that looks similar to the R42's. The R40's that were built with a regular front were the R40 "M"'s and were often times "mated" with the R42 type cars. The R40 Slant and the R40 M were manufactured 1967 - 68 and had GE propulsion systems. The R42 type cars were manufactured 1969 - 70 and had Westing house propulsion systems. @@Dragblacker
The only thing that would make this better is if R40Ms 4480-4481 could be made part of this special events set--it'd be a throwback to how the R40Ms and R42s frequently ran in mixed sets all over B Division around 2008-2009. In any case, seeing a set of R42s preserved for special events is great news!
I operated every car in the museam but gate cars. I operated Q cars to R62A cars ,The R 32 Cars were the absolute best. They flew through the tunnels and the braking was the absolute best. The cars make after R32 were never as good. I work there from 1967 to 1997. Old m/m, m/m/i, Tss
That jntro was epic! Both coming at the same time in between. Q on one side and the B on the other blowing the horn which afterwards turned into the J train! 😂 It’s a “BJ” train. 😅
Great idea! And also use it to bring graduates from New York University to the graduation ceremony at Yankee Stadium on the D line and put it in the 2nd Ave. Station on the storage track used by the Christmas specials of the R9s. 😊
Halleluyah ! Praises and Thanks Be Thy Holy Spirit IAM NTR Yahawah This is a admiration appreciation and honor to see the R42s in their likeness being GHO running along it’s original route of the BMT Nassau Street line for a change for when they was in still service operation the Melanite brother here used to wander ride annually so respect fellow Melanite brother DJ for these memorable clips😂😂😂😂
They will not be used for excursion train. They were only retired five years ago. We have other trains that are more historic, that are used for the Museum trains.
Three consecutively numbered pairs - interesting. I don't think we'll be seeing The French Connection cars in any upcoming movieshoot. They've already had their 15 minutes of fame.:)
Now I have yet another reason to finally go to New York! I'm from Australia (volunteer at Sydney's equivalent of the NYTM), are there any plans for heritage or enthusiast tours to run using these cars? Seems like a great opportunity to me at least to hire it out. I'd do it! Great video as always!
International "better practice". Cost of doing what's needed to keep them in REVENUE SERVICE v. cost of brand new cars. Wonder if the former would have been far less than the latter. MTA always has money for new toys.
Long term costs of keeping the cars in service is much more expensive compared to buying brand new cars, which FYI are CBTC ready for the CBTC installation on the 8th Avenue, Queens Blvd, and Crosstown/Culver Lines and potentially the rest of the system. In contrast, the older cars would have to undergo expensive refitting for the CBTC operations. Not to mention that the R42 cars have been subject to complaints from riders, train crews, and maintenance shop personnel over poor reliability, cramped train crew cabs, and maintenance complexity, something that new train cars resolve. Also other cities get to replace older train cars for new models, so why can’t NYC?

Lmao @ 5:50 “Sex Street” 😂
Nice one😂
😂
Did you catch the beginning with the Front of the train "B", back of the train "J". 😏
@@Angelo_X_2045
Yes I commented about that too. BJ train. 😂

The nostalgia hit hard on this one. Not gonna lie, the last shot brought a tear to my eye from all the good memories it brought up. Thank you DJ!
6:45 Nice catch of the work train with blue rail cars!
r42 has a special design to it from all pre-goh subways, R42 feels modern tbh
I always wondered why they replaced the doors with these smaller windows when they GOHed them I would've preferred the longer ones like on the pre GOH
Now if only 4665/4460 were operable too

The R40 type cars had a "slant" in the front of them, not the R42's.
@@joshbenton4080 Weren't there R42 Slants in addition to regular R42s?

Miss seeing these run over the Williamsburg, such a reminder of when the subway was semi decent with old equipment
4 Years as a garbage collector and then to a movie train.
Erm those sets in the video aren't actually garbage train sets ☝️🤓
Eeek guys look a nerd ahhhhhhh @Elogical9
The MTA surely got very creative with this one @SomeoneOnTheInternet855
We're so back
It’s back, stronger than ever.

Ey let’s go!! But I hope the pair with the big A signs aren’t the ones destined for scrap
9:06 bro did the crossing sequence lol
The R42 learned the ways of a freight train
I LOVE THE R42!!❤
My god that propulsion in the beginning is mint
Are they fart-propelled?
0:14 R42 B train! During the time the B was dominated by R40s, an R42 occasionally ran on the line.
And the slants!
@@nybone24 Both slants and Ms = R40. I also call the Ms R40A-2, since they were the second half of the R40A order.
I saw those yesterday at Coney Island yard when I was riding the D train
Great opening shot at Newkirk! The platform is so narrow at each end. It’s scary to exit a train from the first car at this station.
I caugh it yesterday on Jamaica line in Queens
0:37 google is wrong, the R46 is still in service
welcome back R42! i hope you had a great day in past some years
It looks like they cleaned up Chambers Street at least a little bit!😅
At least it made it to this decade 🥹
Great to see them running!
How about a Yankees opening day special R-42 D Train cleaned up, signed as, and departing from Brighton Beach to 205th St (just need two more cars)?
Great idea! And also use it to bring graduates from New York University to the graduation ceremony at Yankee Stadium on the D line and put it in the 2nd Ave. Station on the storage track used by the Christmas specials of the R9s. 😊
I actually saw the R42 running while i was going home to kew gardens
I’m randomly here idk
They need to deep clean the outsides of the cars 😂
And the windows need extreme attention
Is it gonna be in service again?

Interesting reuse of retired cars.💚👌
i actually caught this r42 passing marcy avenue a few days ago
Omg what a nice shot at the same time love it
The r32 is out off service is it nice to see it back the r32 I know everyone miss the r32
The MTA should use this train for an excursion trip
Long overdue
@@zj777722 yep like the redbird one from a few months ago people will pay to rides these trains again they’re fast and feel like rockts
Exactly 💯 percent right.
Adleast the R42S is definitely holding up just like the R32S and the R62AS R62S R68AS R68S R46S .

Very nice
Oh yeah. My childhood subway car fleet has returned and used to a big and small screen
ahh good to see them out of retirement and back in active service. Long live the R42s!
They are Not in active service, there the second move train
The R32 and the R42 trains are very similar to each other.
My childhood it brought back memories
Down to memory lane 🥲
Nice catch!
I swear if the r32's were known as garbage collecting trains than what will they due to the ntt's eventually.
Sad, but true. Probably in 2077 or something.
Omg it’s like looking in a mirror 🪞 at the beginning of the video Kool and keep up the nice work
And the R42 is fully restored
damn lol as if having a whole train of 32s wasnt enough

I can’t believe is still running
Couldn’t see all car numbers but some of those look like the R42s that sat at 38th street yard and never moved
The R 42s are still the best trains and should not be retired.
Meh, more riders would complain about older trains cause y'know
It's 2024
💀
5:50
The R32 will still make runs so this isn't anything too crazy
Old J Trains I think 🥲
5:40 r160 j train reunites with r42 j train after 4 years
They need to put it back in service 😮😮😮😮😮 they better off it got years left smh
The R179s are adequate replacements for the cars, and even then, it’s expensive to keep the R42s running in passenger service in the era of CBTC.
Wth no
Why can't this be the actual operation? 😭
This is the actual operations. Passengers don’t have to be onboard.
Too bad they can't use the Nassau Cut now. Guess they going from A4 to A3 to B1 at Jay St.
Are they staying in service
old train subway new york
Can’t they just renovate these and the R32s and bring back to service? Make em more 21st century like
With CBTC requirements, it’s more of pain to do so compared to getting factory-fresh passenger cars.
I saw the r42 on my birthday April 10 2024
1:11 Never I have seen Chambers St somewhat decently clean. Looking less uglier than before

A "J" Train at Jay Street
Wait the R42 has been returned
A division rules
I used to think these were R62s 😭😭
bro i saw a not in service R42 when i was an a R160 Alstom F train
Why can they let them run one last time
They already did in 2020.
