Iceland's Hverfjall Crater (also known as Hverfell) is a tephra cone or tuff ring volcano in northern Iceland, to the east of Mývatn. It erupted in 2500 BP in the southern part of the Krafla fissure swarm.
A landslide apparently occurred in the south part of the crater during the eruption, which accounts for the disruption to the round shape of the mountain.

I used to live at Mývatn Iceland when i was a kid, moved from Reykjavik.
The locals used to drive me nuts with stories about the crater, saying it doesn't posses a magma chamber but it has massive amounts of pressure building up underneath it, so when it finally does blow up it will blow up with such force the entire island would be ripped to bits, and i tell you as a kid that shit scarred the living shit right outta me.
I always refused to go there,
Ironically going to the volcano Katla was never a problem for me, not even going to Hekla while it erupted, but that damn crater somehow got to me..... well' i was always weird, we icelanders stand little chance of turning out anything but super weird.
    It was nice seeing this.
Haven't been to Mývatn since the year 2000, dang its almost 20yrs, it just hit me, lol
The scariest thing in life, is how profoundly fast it all goes once you really start living and become conscious of its fragility.
Again thanks for the vid, really nice seeing a bit of the old lake.
    Keep em coming mate.

1:25 Drone shot really puts the size of that crater in prospective. Thought I had seen all your Iceland vids, went back to ck and TaDa.....missed a couple.

When I was watching the cars drive by down below it showed how huge the crater was well done for walking round it

Wow, what a barren landscape. If not for the orange vegetation it wouldn't be pretty, as you said it provides the 'contrast'.

Maybe it's just me but that crater looks like it's building up again in the center. Another possible explosion coming? May take another 100 years? Another great video!

Are you allowed to go down into it or is that where it’s roped off. Great videos Chris

I don't think so on this one. It's protected so they don't even want you going off trail at all

If it's 2 mile around the rim, it's .6 of a mile across, or 1km!
