    In this video, we go over some sampling techniques on the mpc live 2 and mpc one or mpc x as I work with sampling these are some tools i use to match the sample chops to the session bpm. I use a combination of Warp audio and timestretch on the mpc to control the pitch and timing of my samples, i like to warp my audio as i am working on my sampled bassed beat then when i am ready to comit to the tempo i will go ahead and time stretch my audio in the sample editor on the mpc.

    Hey @Malo I have a tip to solve the problem of your audio having Artifacts when you warp it and change the tempo: after you find the tempo of your sample, turn off the "BPM SYNC" button on the far right side. When you do this you only have to adjust the "Stretch" value up or down depending on how fast or slow you want to speed up the tempo. No more artifacts and it allows you to have more flexibility with the tempo. HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE!!

    Warp or time stretch drum breaks ? Patch phrase them ! Patch phrase can sound even better because it plays each drum hit at the original speed, just spacing each hit (=each chop) to match the tempo. No audio stretching means no degradation or artifact even with drastic bpm change. Note : works on most drum breaks, but not all. If you have a long tail (noise, reverb) between the hits, it will sound choppy. Patch phrase is an often forgotten feature, absent on the 2000 XL I think, but present on the 1000 and later.

    • @SMEL
      @SMEL 2 роки тому

      Can that be done on the one?

    • @kernelpaniiic
      @kernelpaniiic 2 роки тому +3

      @@SMEL Sure. After chopping your sample on the transients (manually or by using “threshold”), press shift and “convert”. Then, instead of “new drum program”, select “patch phrase”. This will create a new sample with the letters “pp” appended to its name, which will play based on the tempo of your sequence.

      For transient rich loops slicing is still the best “time stretch” algorithm. Patch phrase is slicing so yes fully agree. Time stretch is more for pads, Drones ie long samples without transients. Also a great secret, slice your favourite crate digging drumloops and replace the sounds with your own selection er voila, timing and feel of the original but no copyright because you changed the samples. I love slicing lol.

    I’m relatively new to the MPC and your videos are a HUGE help! My question is if you have a melodic sample and you want to tune it let’s say down 2 semitones. Do I then time stretch after I tune it down? Because that changes the BPM of the original sample if I’m not mistaken so I would want to then timestretch the “tuned” sample if that makes any sense at all haha. @@DaBlackMicTV For sure do. I have owned every machine Elektron has released aside from the Sid Station and the Analog Heat. Currently using Octatrack, Digitakt and Analog Four from their offerings. I traded my Digitone for a Mopho 4X a couple weeks ago.
      Digitone was the foundation of all the music I have made since it’s release, but I recently just became really annoyed by its sound. Elektron has me hooked on workflow but never are they my favorite sounding machines. Recently I’ve just got to a point where I just could not stand the Digitone’s sharp nature. Sometimes there is so much required to tame the harshness that you completely lose the sound you needed/wanted in the moment. I felt like it was often leaving ringing in my ears after long sessions with headphones… somehow there was always a frequency in there I couldn’t tame. It is A GREAT BOX… very capable and Elektron’s workflow is top notch in my opinion, but sound is very personal and I had to let it go.
      What I would say to anyone new to Elektron is… the machines are often deep and always capable, but not complex. They get a bad wrap for being menu diving machines and that’s just not true… the various screens are far more akin to tabs in a browser window. You want LFOs, press the LFO button… it’s all uniformly laid out and quickly accessible.
      Certain parameters require a shift command or can be in a funny place, but generally not the case. Octatrack more so since it’s an old machine with a completely different structure. The truth is, the Analog Four is the most complicated. Still nicely laid out and accessible, but the amount of parameters is often overwhelming.
      Anyway, Digitone is a great place to start with Elektron (though Digitakt is even easier). Don’t worry, have fun and there are LOADS of excellent tutorials to get you going. I learned everything from UA-cam and I’d consider myself pretty close to a power user… though there are def many who REALLY REALLY know the machines.
      Have fun!

      Yeah.. you can drag and drop to pads. If you put 16 sounds In a folder in your desktop, drag and drop it to the first pad on the Mpc and it will fill all sixteen pads. They will line up in the same order you put them in inside the folder. That’s how I make all my drum kits and keep them organized.

      @@user-tl6en9vq5x While I don't necessarily agree that it was a dud, I completely understand the statement. Roland definitely screwed the pooch in a lot of areas. It really casts a shadow over what they actually got right.
      The real problem with the Fantom is that it is no longer worth the price, with everything else out there, and what it could do. Audio production equipment is at a peak, so the Fantom no longer stands out as the powerhouse it once was... especially when it still lacks some of the basics. It is getting better, but they also failed on the pads, which are old SP404 pads. The pads also function independently of the keyboard, so you can't use them in a project, unless you are recording live on another device. The workaround is programming samples to the keys, but then there is no time stretching, so you have to figure it out and hope that it fits. Shameful.

    Hi, great tutorial, thanks a lot for it. I'm new to MPC and can't figure out one thing that should be easy. I would like the loop playback speed to be in sync with the BPM of the project, as you show in the video. But I don't want the sample to warp, I just want it to speed up or slow down the old-school way - i.e. the pitch changes with the speed, like when you speed up a tape. How to do that? Can you give me some advice please?

    i’m a DAW person, but i’ve really wanted the hardware and workflow of the MPC to switch things up when i want to… the issue i have with MPC is that i don’t find the time-stretching on MPC beats (no pun intended) what i have with serato sample-and i time-stretch often. been watching all ur vids to help me decide tho, appreciate the insight

    hi, is it possible when you download a loop in the MPC to have as in Maschine MK3 the possibility of having the options "loop" (to play the entire loop) and "Gate" (which for example in a loop of Drum for example allows me to select and keep only the kick while silencing the other sounds of the loop)?

  • @dusanbokan9553
    @dusanbokan9553 2 роки тому

    Seems the key difference is that Time stretch does the resampling, which allows it to use a more cpu-intensive algorithm which would otherwise struggle in real time. As someone more accustomed to DAW workflow, I'd say both approaches have one flaw, as they don't allow you to to drill down into a sample and stretch different slices at different ratios. Is there a way to do something like that on an MPC, to basically use slice markers as anchor points and keep everything locked to a grid?

      Hey brother, it took me a few times to understand your question and I had to reread it since there’s some key points that you’ve mentioned here. There really is no rule to this method but I usually would say Timestretch then warp but I think you have something going on with this question and I really want to explore those different options you mentioned because they might have an advantage doing it the way you were saying. Overall, I would Timestretch then I would go for some chopping

    🤔🤔🤔 good info! i warp a lot, the proTen warp option helps a lot, but if it slows down too much, eventually it degrades it. i wonder how slow can i timestretch before it starts to mess up. interesting!

    • @in70x

      The reason it degrades is because. There isn’t enough digital information to fill those spaces… you can get a little more out if you play with pitch OR add some tail to certain things
