- The Golden Gate Bridge
May 27, 1937, the opening ot the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The public was invited to "Walk the Bridge" to see this incredible achievement of American engineering expertise. My wife's Uncle was there and took his 8MM movie camera. Apparently he was one of the few to do so. The resulting video is precious because it is rare, but also because so many people have been affected by this great and famous bridge. Many people have relatives who "Walked the Bridge" that day. If you are one of those, I hope you spot your relative.
Also, be sure to visit www.GoldenGateBridge75.org for lots of other information about the bridge and planned festivities to celebrate the 75th anniversary. - Розваги
My grandmother and then 9-year-old mother walked the bridge that day. Even nearly 80 years later she still had fond memories of that day...
Thanks for this video. On that day my Dad carried me "piggy-back" across the bridge. I was only 4 at that time. I was watching the video hoping for a glimpse of us, but didn't spot us.
Crazy!
wow- my mom and dad walked across that day... Fifty years later, Jay played at the anniversary of the bridge's opening, so many people walked across the bridge began a sway... And my great aunt's partner leapt to his death from the bridge several years after its opening
I enjoyed watching this video. My Dad told me that he had walked on it that day with my Grandparents.
Thanks. Different times, eh? All those kids wearing cowboy hats and clothes. People forget California was the Wild West and rural at one time. What a feat! Awesome video.
I was told that my grandparents walked across on opening day. Of course, I am hoping against all hope to catch a glimpse of them in this video.
I realy like how people dressed back then in 1930s much more better than nowadays
My parents were there. It was my mother's 27th birthday...
Love everything about this! Music is awesome too!
omg the music ruins this video. are you high? only way to watch this is with mute on.
dad and two of his brothers took a horse and buggy ride while his family (he is one of 13 children) walked the bridge. it was great to see his eyes light up with recollection of the day. I showed him the video and took him a ggbridge 75th anniversary baseball cap ...he loved it..!
Many pictures and this video show boys and men in cowboy costumes or cowboy hats. Was this a theme for this day? Was it a very popular costume of that time?
WONDERFUL time machine--- shared many places---Luke92849 will see a spike in his analytics. from 15,366

I wonder if anyone jumped that day.
May in 1937
why were people dressed in cowboy costumes?4:16 cool shot of the water below.
kid at 2:35 looking at his cell phone
All of those people are dead now
Throughout the video, I didn't see a fat person. All looked toned and fit. Nowadays, at least 30% of any crowd: fat, fat, fat. America today is pathetic.
the good old days when you couldn't be gay. and republicans ruled the city and built this bridge
this is great....thank you for postng....i am a sf native and my dad and uncles and aunts walked across opening day....i can't wait to show my father (age 93) this video.,...
