  • Gael Towey's short film series "Portraits in Creativity" documents artists and their inspirations. Here Maira Kalman explores her thoughts on creativity, the importance of day dreaming and the keys to having a full life. With her characteristic humor, tender observations of our human foibles, and gorgeous sense of color, she asks, “Who are we? How are we documenting ourselves? Is this a dream? Are we in costume?” In partnership with The Met, MoMA and The Guggenheim, Maira explores these essential questions through painting, publication and performance. www.portraitsincreativity.com

Yes, the paint rags as art! I took some of my students' paint mats that were absolutely perfect works of art and have them framed.

Wait. She loves New York City but she only goes to one of the five boroughs. I think her opinion might drastically change if she goes to the Bronx or Brooklyn.

***** Yes, right now I am working on a translator like google translate, just more accurate and for code. C++ to Java, C# to C++. But you cannot convert C++ to HTML5 because they do completely different things.

Everything we have been innovating, the ingredients has already been created long before we were created. So I have to differ from all who use the word create and its subsets. Living things, especially human beings, can only be Innovator, maker by mixing, combining etc.

Sure, maybe. But that's not necessarily bad. A lot great thinkers are "lonely" (or simply prefer solitude). To quote: "The writer: Someone who spends a lifetime in solitude for the sake of communication." But to each their own.
