Clara... I'm a 40 year old man with no interest in butterflies or stenciling shirts. I honestly don't even know how I stumbled upon your video, to be honest. However, I was thoroughly mesmerized throughout the whole thing.
I'm not one to be into butterflies or stencils myself, but my Mom loves them. So, I will do butterflies for her and bring you along with me. Thanks for watching.
That was sweet sir!!
@@kyngjon9525 sorry no... Wish I could help
@@heydeanie I have been seeing this same comment all over the place, I think it's some kind of scam. I'm glad you didn't engage this person
@@wtglb good to know, cuz I totally would've helped if I'd known the answer lol
Hi, that is a lovely gift to give your momma! I hope to try making one soon. Thanks for the tutorial.
Be sure to use diluted bleach. This one is diluted down with a little bit of water. My bleach is super strong.
Wow that’s so beautiful. Very creative
You’re a sweet daughter, mom & wife ❤ gave me such warm feelings
Butterflies 🦋 make me feel close to my mom!😢love this
Beautiful, looks like lace.
Thanks so much. Thanks for watching.
Your shirt came out so lovely because it was executed in love, thank you so much for sharing your skills.
Awe thanks. Yup there was a lot of love there.
Very cool technique and thanks for sharing! ❣️
Wow! This is such a beautiful but EASY process! Thank you for sharing this procedure! ❤️
Thanks. You are very welcome.
I loved this idea... Honestly, I was thinking to myself, no way, bleach? That’s going to run like a cheap pair of tight pantyhose 😂🤣 But I was into it! Love the positioning of the butterfly too! Maybe next add smaller butterflies or a rose 🥀 ❤️
Thanks. The rose and smaller butterflies are a good idea.
Is the iron neccasary or does it just speed it up, also how long should you leave it after bleaching do you just wash as normal or leave for a few hours to develop ? Great video I can't wait to give it a go with my own stencils
I have the Sam's exact question. It seems like by ironing, you prevente the textile from damaging even more. O
It seems like that is why some people wash it right away. But I am not sure either
I just use the iron briefly. Follow these directions for after to prevent the bleach from eating the clothes. ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html
The iron stops the bleaching process at that point but can continue to damage clothes unless you neutralize it. Follow these directions for after to prevent that. ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html
it came out beautiful! i have to try this. I love tie dying.
Wow I love butterflies 😍 Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. So, does Mom.
How sweet of a gift 🎁 happy birthday to your Mom 🌸💜🙏🏼 I’m sure it has passed now hope she luved her shirt
Thanks. Momma did love her shirt. And it is super soft too.
That came out soooo Awesome sauce ur Momma is one Lucky Lady! Happy Birthday to her may it be great one.. We are 🦋 lovers over here!! I've already had at least a dozen butterfly chrysalis!!😁💞 Keep staying healthy & well..
She loved it and it is super soft too. Mom and I would visit the butterfly gardens. She loves them. WOW a dozen chrysalis!
@@ClaraLawrence soft shirts are the best soooo glad she lived it 😁 I keep meaning to visit the one near us I've heard the gardens are sooo Beautiful & then off course the butterfly area is breathe taking.. Yes, a dozen at least this yr & those have all become Beautiful 🦋 we still have plenty to still come I'm sure I Luv watching them..
Mum will be able to wear it outside now 😁 the splashes finished it beautifully.
HEY Clara, JUST wondering how would it turn out if you used a roller. JUST WONDERING
If you use a thickener in your bleach. I believe Dharma trading sells something like that. Otherwise spritzing it is super easy.
Love that shirt! Thanks for the idea.
I also loved your video. I'll be looking for you on the regular now.
Have a great day and God bless you 😊🕊️
Thanks so much. I really appreciate that.
Father's Day present! Great idea! Thanks!
You are welcome. That is a good idea.
Such a great idea!!
😊 I'm gonna try this. Great video. 😊
Love it !! Very cool!
I so loved your technique! I must have missed what is the amt or ratio of bleach that you used? Thank you for this and I can't wait to try this at home with my daughter.
Thanks. I used our grocery store brand of bleach and watered it down just a little with water. Sorry don't have the ratio. Maybe a 5:1 if I had to guess.
Beautiful Clara
Love the shirt. I think I need to try this. Is the T-shirt all cotton or does it matter?
Thanks so much. This shirt is 100% cotton. If you want to try a different blend do a test. Adjust the iron accordingly. (look at the settings) Be sure to be in a well ventilated area.
Nice job. what temperature was your iron on and did you wash with detergent right afterwards or did you just use the rinse cycle and then dry. thanks
Thanks so much. It was at a cotton setting. I do a peroxide bath first (in a container) then wash ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html
Love this! Where did you find the Butterfly Stencil???
Thanks. Here is my affiliates link amzn.to/3OTsMyL
This came out perfect! I love it!
Wow what a beautiful gift, it turned out beautiful ❤️
Thanks. I appreciate that.
Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much. I appreciate that.
GREAT JOB!!
This is great! Much easier than painting or tie dying. What was the iron set on? Do u have to iron for it to work?
Thanks. You do not need an iron, you can use the sun. I had mine set to cotton since this was a cotton shirt.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks so much.
GREAT JOB!
Thanks in a million. Awesome.
Thanks, I appreciate that.
This is sooo cool! What an awesome idea for ur mama! 😍😍👍🏻😁 she’s going to love it!
She did love it. And the shirt is super soft too. We put in paw prints for all the furry grandchildren too.
Very Cool..!
Thanks and thanks for watching.
That is beautiful!!! I’m so glad this video showed up in my recommendations!
Thanks so much. I'm glad it did too.
Great idea .Was it pure bleach you used?
Thank you for making this video!!!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching.
Very nice!
Thanks so much.
Hi, thanks for sharing❤️ I have one question. Did you dilute the bleach with water or used 100% directly from the bottle?
You are welcome. Thanks for watching. I did dilute about 1/4 water. My bleach is super strong. Learned the hard way.
Wonderful idea 😊❤️👍. Did you burn your arm?
Did you use the iron on it and then put it straight in the dryer or did you rinse it with cold water first then put it in the dryer?
I did iron it, then a peroxide bath (in a container) then into the wash it goes. ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html
Great idea!
Thanks and thanks for watching.
I love this video! great job, I have been wanting to try this out! 👍👍👍 where did you get the big stencils?
Thanks so much. I get them on Amazon. Here is my affiliates link. amzn.to/3brre1i
Thanks for the link.👍👍👍👍
1:50 in & I have stencil already ordered! Ha. Thanks so very much for the link!
You are very welcome. Have fun!
Beautiful! Awesome!
Thanks so much. I appreciate that.
BEAUTIFUL! I never heard what was in the spritzer...was it a mix of bleach?
My attempts have always bled.
Thanks. Bleach thinned out a little with water.
This shirt will be nice and she may cry, especially with signatures of family good Job Girl
She did love it. We also had paw prints too for all the furry grandchildren.
So nice Clara thankyou for sharing
Thanks for watching. Momma loved it.
Where did you get the butterfly please and thank you for sharing it with me
The butterfly stencil came from Amazon. Here is my affiliates link amzn.to/42E2reW
Awesome
Clara, this turned out beautifully!! I bet she loved the subtle design and especially the signatures. If my daughter gave me this, I would totally cherish it.
I'm super happy with how this turned out. We even had paw prints for all the furry grandchildren.
Awww at the paw print signatures! I love that.
This is beautiful! When washed, how does it keep from bleaching out the entire shirt/load of clothes, and losing the design?
I neutralized the bleach with a stop solution. Check this out. ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html
@@ClaraLawrence Thank you!
Greetings from Texas, Clara. 🙋♀️ This is my first time on your channel.
The result you got with your mom's butterfly blouse is just the look I really really want. So thank you for that. 💛
1. I'm totally trying to avoid that reddish/rust color bleach look. So, if you use lighter colored shirts, do you get that whiter bleach result?
2. What was the material ratio in the blouse you used? 50/50 cotton/polyester? 100% polyester?
3. If you do use a light or dark t-shirt, what should the material ratio be?
4. After you ironed both the butterflies, is that when you gave it the hydrogen peroxide bath? How long in that bath?
5. If you do use a dark or med. colored t-shirt, will you always get that reddish bleach color?
I've probably got many other questions. 😂. Could you do a whole step by step video of bleach painting on lighter and medium colored shirts (from start to finished product)? That would be a Godsend! Thank you for any information you can share with us. Take care and God bless.
I'm not going to answer all of your questions and this is why. Each shirt color from each manufacturer is going to be a different color blend. Knowing all those reactions implies that I have done a million shirts which I haven't. I go for 100% cotton shirts. The reddish/rust color is common but not exclusive to black shirts. Sometimes you don't get that reaction. It is a quick process and I will spend a short amount of time on the design, use the iron to see the result if needed and then move immediately to the peroxide to stop the reaction and then wash completely with soap and water. Check out this video for the peroxide solution. ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html and I learned the hard way if you don't use it. I get the material completely wet in the peroxide solution and let it sit for about 30 seconds and remove, go to the next piece and repeat. Then take them all to the wash.
Very beautiful👍
Thanks, I appreciate that.
Question do you wash the shirt before you dry it love the shirt be blessed new sub I like the feel of real everyday people
Yes, wash your shirt in a peroxide bath. (can be in a small container) ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html
This turned out beautiful! First time I have seen anything done with bleach and I will definitely give it a try! Love all your crafts❤!!
Thanks so much. Be sure to be in a well ventilated area. If you love that, you will love this one. ua-cam.com/video/83YSQt_b-XI/v-deo.html
What kind of vinyl did you use for your stencil? Also how did you get the adhesive part off of it? I was trying to make stencils with permanent adhesive vinyl and I had a hard time.
It is a purchased stencil and I'll be honest I didn't adhere down the stencil. It was a quick spray. Didn't spray that much liquid so it soaked in immediately and didn't run underneath.
Did you put the plastic under the stencil in between the shirt and stencil ??
No I didn't. I had a board that had a padded fabric panel on it (for ironing) under the shirt. I used this because I knew the iron would be used. Plastic might melt. But if you do this outside and let the sun bake on the bleach a little you don't have to worry about the plastic sheet in the shirt.
Did I miss something, You mentioned peroxide?? & was it dried first to set the design prior to washing??
Peroxide neutralizes the bleach. And given that you're removing color rather than adding it, you don't need to let it set.
Nope not before. It would hinder with the bleach. I did that after. ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html
You are very correct. Thanks for helping.
This is a great video! I want to try making a couple denim shirts with a couple stencils made from freezer paper. How hot was the iron and I think you had the paint brush in peroxide, did I hear you say? Also, what does one do to stop the bleach from eating through the fabric--do we have to wash or rinse it? I want to make a couple for a fundraising event. Thank you:)
No mention of how to stop the bleach from eating thru!
Yes you need to do a peroxide bath to stop the bleach. ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html
I do have a video on that. ua-cam.com/video/JAgY3GbZWP8/v-deo.html
how do you stop it from bleading and spreading bleach through the stencil my bleached shirts look like blobs
Lovely. Is the top 100% cotton or linen? Nice effect!
Thanks. This was 100% cotton. If you want to try something different, find an area to do a small test on it. Be sure to be in a well ventilated area.
Lovely
Thanks, I appreciate that.
Is that a dry iron and not a steam iron? Thanks Clara
That was a dry iron. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much. You have inspired me to try this process.
Thanks so much. Be sure to be in a well ventilated area.
Excellent turnout
Thanks, I appreciate that.
Love it, sure going to give this a try. Thank you
Thanks. Have fun! Make sure you are in a well ventilated area.
Aw..aw..awesome..😊
Thanks 🤗
Where did you buy stencil? Love it
I got that on Amazon. Isn't it gorgeous?! Here is my Amazon Affiliates link for it. amzn.to/3gDeqne
If you would use spray on fabric glue on the back of your stencil you would have had a better impression.
Just a little helpful suggestion. Love the butterfly.
That's a great idea. Usually I paint the bleach on, so no spray glue handy. ua-cam.com/video/Y85JDvBKSAg/v-deo.html
Where did you buy the design???? Nice job
Thanks. I got this stencil from Amazon. Here is my affiliates link. amzn.to/3lOD4o0
Can you add color to the transfer after the bleach? Just lightly in some of the pattern like you did the sprinkle around the butterfly?
Sure could. I know of a couple of artists that would do that vary thing.
Hello, question.. what type of paper are you using that you placed on that shirt?
There is a plastic stencil and sheets of plastic (drop cloth) that I placed over top.
U r very talented, live the shirt and the little convo of your husband lol
Thanks so much. I appreciate that.
Love this
Thanks. It is super easy to do.
So pretty! I would love to try this!
I hope you do. Use plenty of ventilation and have fun!
Thank you so much Great Job!! turned out beautiful
Thanks, I appreciate that.
Does the template stick to the t shirt? How do you keep the bleach from seeping under the template?
The template did not stick to the shirt. Several have suggested a spray adhesive to help with the stencil clarity. Because I did a light spray there wasn't any seeping underneath.
Would have loved to have seen it on so we could see just how it looked! Fascinating idea though!!
It was a surprise. Mom had a stroke a few years ago and doesn't want to be filmed. Sorry. She loves it and wears it often.
Loved watching this video. Can you tell me more about the stencil, brand name or style, where to purchase? Thank-you.
Thanks. I can do you one better. Here is my Amazon affiliates link for it. amzn.to/3dPkwxz
Would a hair dryer work if I don't have an iron? I work in scrubs and my casual wardrobe is wash & wear, hence no iron.😅🤷🏻♀️
It might or working out in the sun. Haven't tried it. My friend showed me this trick and she did amazing paintings on fabric. Be sure to be in a well ventilated area.
I'm making a shirt for a lady friend and she wants her name on the back how do I do the stenciling along with the tie dye I'm going to use the scrunch pattern
Very nice 👍
Thanks I appreciate that.
Can u use any kind of t shirts and color t shirts too with bleach
That is a broad question. I would test a tiny piece of the fabric if you are wondering. If you line up several brands of black shirts for example and apply bleach, the colors remaining will vary depending on what colors are in the black. If in doubt do a test.
Are you using 100% bleach? Or is that a 50:50 mix with water?
I used a 50/50 mix with this. When I do 100% it will eat through the material fast, even when rinsing immediately.
@@ClaraLawrence Thank you so much! I'm about to try this technique for a few Christmas presents. Your video is giving me the courage!
what material is your stencil made of?
I purchased that stencil, but was impressed by the design. Here is my affiliates link for it amzn.to/3oNLQUu
Is the shirt dry? I tried to to tye dye with a stencil and it came out horrible
The shirt was dry when I applied the stencil. The bleach would have bled badly into wet fabric smearing the stencil design.
Would have like to have seen a link for the tshirt as well. Pretty color
To be honest with you I picked up the t shirts at WalMart. She loves greens and it caught my attention.
may I ask what this stencil is made of?
plastic, paper, et?
It is a purchased stencil. amzn.to/3BExf5t
If I don't have an iron? Will it still work the same?
It should. The iron just stops the whiting out process, so I can see it. But you can just spray and move on to the next area and wash when you are done.
Happy Birthday, Mom.
Awe thanks. She loved it.
Do you recall if this was 100% cotton shirt?
Yes it was. I know this because that is what I usually buy.
How did you make your stencil?
I cheated and got it from Amazon. Giggle Here is my affiliates link for the stencil. It is also in the description too. amzn.to/3i2SC5b
@@ClaraLawrence oh ok thanks 😊

Is that just regular house hold bleach like Clorox?
It is the store bottle and slightly stronger then Clorox, so I dilute it a little with water.
