- In this video, myself and JPVideos and behind the scenes guest viewer Dan, hang out near the Gallitzen Tunnels near Altoona Pa to catch some train tunnel action with some snow as well. Dispite being a little cold, we did get some good train footage, shared some stories and always, had some laughs. I hope you enjoy and don't forget to check out JP'S video in the link below for his perspective.
Thanks For Watching and Happy New Year 2021.

Nice vid. Thanks for sharing,, choo choo !!
Just love those shots of the trains with snow coming down and the tunnels....Amazing...
Couldn't have timed it any better. 😄
It's snowing! It's snowing! 🤣 "Bob's Road" had a lot of twists and turns.
Neat to see the other side of the tunnel.
You have a true love of trains. Out there walking & filming in the cold, cold breezy, falling snow. 🥶
Cool to watch them slowly come out of the tunnels, snow flying & big lights on!
Thanks RJ!
Trains are one of my favorites. I have many more. And i definitely enjoy videoing and hanging with friends making awesome memories in the process.
@@rj78productions88 that I have noticed. Have fun, be safe.
Always, and thank you.
This was amazing RJ!! Great shots. Loved where the headlights were coming out of tunnel. Looking forward to where we adventure in 2021!! Take good care friend.🥰
Thank you Marty.
Incredible footage of the trash cars; I wonder where it ends up? Anyways, thank you! 🌝
An incinerator maybe? Not sure. The direction it was going was Pittsburgh. Thank you. And your welcome.
i was trying to figure out if the portage tunnel was still in use, and your video confirmed that it is, and it becomes track #3 down into horseshoe curve. it does appear that the portage hill into holidaysburg line and onto altoona is now abandoned. in a former life, this routed eastbound freight away from horseshoe to ease congestion.
That was some excellent footage. Great video.
Thanks Adam. Glad you enjoyed it as always.
Up close and personal!! Love it!!! Cool seeing those ginormous engines coming out of the tunnel!! Thanks for sharing!! 💖💖💖💖💖
It definitely was something different for me. Glad we could bring them for you all to enjoy as well.
I'm pretty familiar with the area. Actually lived in Gallitzin during the tunnel enlargement. The concrete and stone structures were from very large blowers that were removed. They were used for ventilation during the steam era. Here is a link to a picture www.northeast.railfan.net/images/tr_gallitz4.jpg
Awesome, thank you for that info. I will definitely check that link out.
Awsome video RJ loved the angle shot inside the tunnel wow did that train have a bad smell lol it was a cold and windy day but loved every minute of it the train coming out of the tunnel with the snow was so cool thank you for sharing
I am glad you enjoyed it and you can be one of the lucky ones to have seen the behind the scenes filming. So glad we got to hang out with you. It definitely made the trip that much more fun for us all. Look forward to future meet ups.
@@rj78productions88 yes definitely can’t wait to do it again
@@rj78productions88 Happy New Years RJ may this year bring spectacular footage
Nice video, RJ, Happy New Year! It definitely looked cold out there, but those tunnels are a great place to film. I was surprised to learn how old they were, but that's great that all but one is still in use.
Happy New Year to you as well. And yes, definitely enjoying the history that is out there.
Great train footage! I liked the long shot beside the train. Good stuff RJ 👍
I figured i would leave at least one shot of an entire train for those who enjoy counting the cars that go by.
Beautifully done RJ thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you Lesa. Glad you enjoyed it.
@@rj78productions88 you're welcome 😊 did you get your package?
Great video ! I love those tunnels, I'd sure like to visit there someday!
You would definitely enjoy them for sure. Thanks for watching.
Thanks RJ, Pretty Cool Video. Nice Cold Day for some Great Train Action. Thanks Again, Take Care and Be Safe.
I am not much of a fan of the cold, but ot was worth it for the time spent and the footage that came from it.
Awesome video! I’d love to get out there someday.
You will definitely have to make that happen.
Pumpkins still up in January huh?
This was filmed back in November.
Awesome nice video
Thank you Bill. Definitely appreciate the support.
trying to remember the meaning of the different train whistles. Will have to look them up again LOL
I know there is something online you can look up to know. I remember that the 2 long blasts, 1 short and 1 long is for warning of a crossing or that the train is coming.
I wanted to point out, train number heading into the tunnel, had engine 1030 on it. That is a heritage unit. It’s. Umber board are the years of the Norfolk Southern 1982 and 2012 are then number boards. Came out with the SD70ACE heritage units. Hope you got some pics of it.
The garbage train..... BLAH
Just video footage, but can screen shot from that footage. Thanks for the info brother. 😉
May have been a coke oven
The lights on the train I think you called them wig wag lights . Are they only in Pennsylvania ? The reason I ask I'm in new York state not that far from rochester and I've never seen trains here with those lights .
I know we called them Wig Wags in the fire service, i am pretty sure thats what they are called in the train world as well. Kinda weird they don't flash them in your area, figured it was standard for all trains.
They are called ditch lights mandatory on all North American railroads
👍
