Latvian fans go out on the RIga streets to cheer for their champions, we in Poland had to go out on the Warsaw streets to rage against our government last Sunday - i'm happy for you Latvians I envy you and I was really rooting for you! great achievement, great example of a country and spirit!

Thanks, but also its a matter of numbers. Our tiny nation is already a statistical odd-ball outlier by even being in the elite devision. With just 5k professional players and 20-something ice rinks we in theory shouldn't even be in the top league.

This emotions are hard to describe - there was no moment during the entire tournament when one could think of Latvia losing. We've always believed in winning. But the emotions were just grandiose, the neck tightening, the voice leaving, the hugs, the screams, the cheers, the torrents running through us - the rays of joy, the joy over all of Latvia came out on May 28th. Thousands of fans in Riga center 29th May. and in another countries Latvian have joy. We snub our players at home always with glee. Even if we had won a silver medal, we would have been cheering, like bronze.
Love support flows into our Latvians. Thank you jacks and team staff.

Просто больше середняки подтянулись. Сейчас уже не 6 команд претендует на медали, а около десяти, а в отдельном матче могут дать бой так и все 16. Норвежцы ведь победили чемпионов мира. Швейцарцы кстати тоже.

Last estimates I heard were at least 30k, probably 37-40k (just at the monument of freedom, those awaiting on the road not included, as far as I understood)
The whole population is 2 million, 30k to 50k people arrived at the monument, around 50k tried to watch it on tv, but the broadcast stopped working. The trams were full of people and most of the city center was blocked due to the “chaos” there. Good event. Proud to be a Latvian!

Я латышка, первый язык - русский. Никогда за Россию не болела и не буду! Мы маленькая страна, но мы интегрировались и живём дружно.

Well, at least they are happy and congratulating us! :) If a person does not learn languages, that is on them and only shows their narrow look at life! :) But if they are at least sharing positive vibes and energy, it is all that matters!

I wonder if this is the best team that Latvija ever had or that this time the circumstances were fortunate (home advantage, weak opponents)
to be honest, team usually from year to year have like only 2 players maybe 3 changed. And opponents werent weak, as you saw that the games were close. Id say, teams who got in semis were already known in group a when groups were announced for this year, but id say, group b was group of death. Cos Swiss, Canada, Czechs, Latvia, Slovaks, Norway. Latvia and Norway less likely to go out, but Latvia and Norway tend to always mess something up for top teams and knock them down from quarter finals, while A group didnt have any team that ever beats a top team, so their top 4 was already known months before tournament.
@@Swarmah you didn't write to my question. this is the first medal for the latvian hockey team. so I wonder if this is the best team they had. or were there other reasons. and this tournament was weaker in terms of participation of top players from nhl
@@amina-pr8xt so you are implying, this was worst tournament skillwise in past 30 years ? Ok, Finland didnt have Aho, Canada didnt have Crosby, like pretty much 2 star players that every tournament do half their teams goals in 1 tournament.
@@Swarmah i don't understand your last sentence. Anyway there is no need to make a WC every year, it's counterproductive, IIHF makes this for economical reasons. In no other sports this happens, a world championship takes place and the best players are not there
@@amina-pr8xt and besides canada having full NHL team, this is like barely anything different from Olympics, when USA and Canada have ''top of the top'' players, and usa always usually get knocked out by these same, half NHL half swedish or finnish league teams before they even have chance to fight for medals. NHL doesnt mean they are the best, when you look at Swiss or Swedish leagues, a lot of times they look far supperior, and we see it often, how czech, swiss or swedish league players just humiliate NHL teams/players
