I feel like relationships are a lot more complex than what I am reading in the comments. If anyone has been in a relationship when they were still too young to understand themselves, I think that’s what the film is trying to help us see. You can’t marry before you find your own identity. There’s no good guy or bad guy. Movies that show that nuance are worth watching!

      So true

Priscilla Presley I'm sure had found her identity by 22 years of age which is when she married Elvis. She knew exactly who she was and what she was signing up for. She moved in with him just a few months short of her 18th birthday. Priscilla saw his infidelities, his bad temper, if something or someone deeply upset him, and his frustrations and anxiety over his career, and his dependence on prescription drugs. She knew full well of his sullen moods, and his deep sense of loneliness. She has told the world and for decades now, that she didn't know about the world outside, she has stated she had no teenage years, and she didn't know who she really was. What rot,..... she knew exactly who she was, what she wanted, and what she was doing.
Priscilla has engaged in an absolute litany of lies. Priscilla in Germany was dating other guys when Elvis returned to the States after his service, contrary to what she has told the media and the public. Cilla was not pining away refusing to go out. She lived a full and rather promiscuous life with boys and men back in Germany. A very well researched book was written about her life in Germany. Many of her classmates were interviewed including friends and teachers. The book was written by a lawyer with documented evidence and tap recorded information and testimonials by people who knew Cilla well, including also knowing her very permissive and agenda driven parents very well too. Hec man one could go on for ages over this sordid saga.
I'll just conclude by saying the story Sophia Coppola has given us is all based on Priscilla's own book called "Elvis and Me" in addition to Cilla's further oral information to Sophia. It's all out of Cilla's mouth, in other words no one else's . However, it's the same old fairy-tale she has dished up to the Public for 45 years now with a twist here and there to make it look even darker, while she comes out the squeaky clean one and the innocent victim. No wonder some of Elvis's friends described her as cold, calculated, manipulative, greedy, and a downright demon. I can understand why "Elvis Presley Enterprises" and its board members wanted nothing to do with this film and would not allow the use of Elvis's music to be used in it. They can't stand Priscilla and for very good reasons.

22? Most women do not fully grasp who they are with confidence in their identity until their early to mid 30s. 22 is still very young to marry and take on what she took on. All that you shared, I’m sure it’s all true, but it doesn’t mean that a girl at 22 knew what she was signing onto when she got married- to anyone, let alone someone larger than life. I have empathy for all characters portrayed because we are all human and flawed humans at that. My parents were abusive to each other my whole life and I still look at them as two people who tried to make something work but struggled a great deal with what life threw at them. Do I judge either one of them? Absolutely not. I almost married someone abusive because I was 22 and fell for the spontaneity they brought to the relationship. Like I said, I’m sure all you say is true but I would add a little cushion to both sides for their humanity.

@@Bgustin1 You're a very tolerant person and by extension I would say very forgiving. To be married at 22 these days is young indeed. People now are getting married well into their late twenties and even early 30's both men and women. However, in the 1950's and 60's if you were not married by the time, you reached your late teens to very early twenties at the latest, if you were a woman, you were almost considered an old maid. Girls at 15 ,16,17. years of age were a lot more mature than our young people today. What we have today is men and women for that matter still single in the thirties and as immature as the day is long. Their attitude is why should they get married when in our modern culture sex is so freely available, and who wants the responsibilities and duties of married life. Women today sure don't. If they do happen to marry in their early twenties, they want out not long after they have gone in .
Elvis and Cilla's time was very different. Woman were raised to believe that their goal in life was to find a nice enterprising husband and be a good wife mother and homemaker. It's clear to me that priscilla Beaulieu didn't want that. She wanted "Elvis ", the name of the marquee, not Elvis the man. that's why she left him when she secured his name and had his baby. She had Elvis cemented for life , with the Presley name and the Presley child . She has become a very wealthy woman riding on both those two things for 45 years now .
Thank you for your reply, and thank you too for your courtesy, something that is also rare these days.

What I don’t get is - how passionate Priscilla was in her speech about her love for ELVIS….. she talked beautifully…. But then we have the comments about ELVIS that are negative, the reviews that are calling him horrible names. That and her passionate speech do not match??!!!
I will see the movie before I judge, however I am very confused.
Priscilla seemed angry with the mans question, yet it seems to be a common theme of thought after seeing this movie.
I emplore people to remember…. ELVIS is not here to defend himself. This was a relationship and this film is the feminine side of the tale. You must leave room in your minds to not judge a man who isn’t here to defend and who had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Who had suffered loss, his mother and his career was threatened, frustrations, being used, having yes people surrounding him, having serious health concerns that he couldn’t share, having a brain that wouldn’t allow rest - forever searching, not being able to sleep. If we can give understanding to one, surely we can to another.
Priscilla stands up for ELVIS in that speech, because I guess with time since writing the book she’s had enough self analysis to realise the love ELVIS gave her - but she can’t change the story she wrote as a younger person trying to find her own spotlight.
We love you ELVIS. Always and forever. TCB ❤️

Elvis has been trashed, slandered, and had his character defamed for decades, nothing new here. What is new though, is a movie like we had last year, where the main take away was Elvis the musician, the unique phenomenon that he was, and the amazing legacy he left behind. So you and the Spa Guy can keep on bashing Baz's movie, but very rarely has there been a time when Elvis was talked about in such a respectful way, and seen so much positive enthusiasm in recent years, than after the Elvis 2022 movie . Now with this movie we're back with the ridiculous obsession of only discussing all of Elvis' little characters flaws, his drugs, his bad temper, his women, yada yada yada. So if there is a renewal of Elvis attack, it's not because of last year's movie, we're simply back to the same old Elvis trashing . The 2022 movie just gave us a nice break from it. But keep on hating it, you will probably like the Priscilla movie, and call it "authentic". @@GlobetrottingWithTrey

she was only 9 years old when cilla forced her to join. right after elvis died, he couldn’t stand scientology!
Elvis left the Scientology building in shambles screaming: “F**k those people! There’s no way I’ll ever get involved with that son-of-a-b**ch’ group. All they want is my money.”
“This is a girl, who is a second generation Scientologist, who didn’t elect to go into Scientology, but was dragged into it because her parent was in it,” Lisa’s former counsellor said. “She didn’t want to be indoctrinated or attend camps.”
“If Elvis was alive, he would never, ever have let his daughter endure torturous purification rundowns, sending her to ethics, handing out morality punishments,”
elvis had a disease, he was an ill man towards the end of his life, his addiction was also a disease, the same way the industry got judy garland hooked on drugs to help with her work scheduling, would you blame her for “not taking care of her children?” and dying young as a result of it? he was worked to literal death providing for those he loved, their families, strangers, higher up executives etc. they used him as a cash cow and he’s still one of the most exploited entertainers, alongside britney spears. the industry and the army did the same for elvis. there were no mental diagnosis like ptsd, rehabs or any mental health facilities back then. that was unheard of, you dealt with your problems yourself. everything he took was prescribed to him by a doctor and the dangers of prescription meds were also unheard of at the time. and by the time they realized how dangerous they actually were it was too late, he was already addicted.
regardless he was a good f*cking father to lisa. and would’ve never allowed anything like that happen to her. that man wouldn’t have dared gone near lisa either if elvis was still alive. priscilla should’ve protected her! instead she kept her in harms way. lisa also died at a young age because of her illness and the death of her son that she never stopped grieving over. what are you a sociopath? or just completely misinformed on the topic you’re engaging in?

Their relationship was clearly trauma bonded and he was emotionally unavailable. He didn’t want to lose her, but wouldn’t offer her the relationship and love she deserved. This is a classic narcissistic codependent dynamic between the two. Elvis got undying devotion and empathy from Pricella. Unfortunately, Priscilla hadn’t quite figured out who she was at the time so Elvis felt like he could “mold” her into his living doll rather than loving her for who she was. For Pricella, the emotions were real, but Elvis could only offer so much while facing his many demons. I deeply resonate with this story and am looking forward to seeing the film.

To me, Priscilla had not a lot of personality at the time. She just knew she was pretty and tried to make herself interesting to his eyes and be what he wanted in a girl. She wanted to please him because she had fear he would have sent her home and found someone else when he was away (and it happened with Ann Margret). She has never had nothing in common with Elvis and stated their love seemed more like father/daughter or brother/sister. In my opinion, she hid her true nature and ambitions...Elvis got pressures to marry her so that marriage was wrong from the start. They simply weren't made for each other...she left because she had already another man...she wanted to find herself but she has always well exploited his name after his death. She doesn't seem so traumatized from that relationship and took everything she could and she still does now through her granddaughters. Her family won the jackpot with Elvis 😒

@elvis78ale You're obviously exposing your inner misogyny. A bunch of bs and lies from your post Priscilla's Parents didn't relied on Elvis financially. They lived in New Jersey with relatives after they moved back to the states. Captain Beaulieu would send Priscilla an allowance from Germany when she barely moved to Graceland. ELVIS made his own decision to marry no one force him. He could've ended the relationship if he wanted to, but he didn't. ELVIS wanted a stay at home wife that could attend his every need, she try to be that perfect wife which is impossible to do as you get older. She left because he was never home and she technically was leaving as a single mom. ELVIS was living the bachelor life while having a bunch of mistresses who did not care for his wife or daughter- they just became bedwarmers. YES, he was hurt when she left but that was on him for not trying to be a good husband. He later realized that but remained close to Priscilla for Lisa's sake which is the most healthy thing to do . PRISCILLA opened up Graceland for the fans and to keep in the family so what if she made a buck that pales in comparison to her life work for Elvis legacy. She knew the man as her husband and she has the right to tell her story. Also Riley already stated that she was never at odds with Grandma and that they are close ! I would've assumed you'll be more understanding of her circumstances cuz she was alone waiting for him while he was out partying with women and his bodyguards. She was lonely. There's no way that marriage could've continued. I also see some of your points are straight out from that trashy book child bride. And you say she didn't know herself is bs because she's still living off Elvis and still has his second name. Her identity is living off Elvis that's it. Elvis was not a narcissist he was an emotionally broken man suffering from losing his mother and dealing with huge fame and a medication problem. Priscilla is such a drama queen. She has seen tons of movies about herself including the original Elvis and Me based on her book and never ever was so moved to tears after being interviewed. She’s crying now and will cry and cry again because EPE has made a statement against the movie not allowing Coppola to use any of Elvis voice, songs, music. Because millions of fans have expressed their disagreement and will not see the movie, because she was icy at Lisa’s funeral, because she disputed Lisa Marie’s Will, because people commented on her excitement and energetic joy promoting Agent Elvis days after Lisa’s death, because it was revealed Lisa found out she was paying herself almost a million dollars a year for 30 years to manage Lisa’s Trust and Lisa removed her from the Trust and in order for her to walk away she sued. And mostly because she’s banned from representing Graceland and Elvis brand. Her things have been removed from Graceland exhibition including her name. She also wants pity for the millions of fans against her burial at Graceland after she cheated on Elvis twice and left him for another married man, Mike Stone and stealing from Lisa. She was sympathy and is promoting the movie that many have said they will boycott. She just does not want to be forgotten and wants to be part of the Elvis vigil and legacy that’s why she wants to be buried at Graceland next to a man she left after cheating on him and telling him she no longer loved him. Please!!!!
Coppola should make a movie from Child Bride ( book which Priscilla fought in court to stop its distribution and lost because it was supported by witnesses in Germany who stood by her story. ) There’s a book for Coppola.
We will see Priscilla, who took Elvis to divorce court twice for more money, cry and cry and cry until movie is off the theaters. She never cried like that in the 80’s or after Lisa or Ben died.
    So predictable.

Priscilla's book "Elvis and me" is pretty much the worst book I've ever read. Since it was created by a ghostwriter, it should be clear that Priscilla did not write a single sentence in this book, but did interviews that were typed. Sandra Harmon wrote it in first person perspective to make it sellable. Curiously, Priscilla still claims that Elvis is the love of her life, apparently ignoring the fact that the two had nothing in common. And that he was forced to marry her.The book is controversial and questionable.
18 years compressed to 280 pages. She's always the victim, he's the villain. Sorry, but the whole book isn't believable. Read "Childbride" by Suzanne Finstaed. This is the real Priscilla. I've never heard of anyone wanting to be buried next to their ex-partner whom she previously accused of rape. How is the Coppola film different from the other two films she produced? More money can be earned. The book leaves out everything that puts Priscilla in a bad light. For example, that she was caught cheating on Elvis and what circumstances she betrayed him. Lisa, her daughter, had a disastrous relationship with her mother. Ask yourself why?
Also that she is not allowed to use the name Presley because that was agreed upon in the divorce. Who bears the name of the person who is accused to abused her? Priscilla is a greedy woman. She takes advantage of Elvis and always has. Everything revolves around money for her. Elvis is no longer there to defend himself. But that's not what Prissy is about. I get bad Amber Heard vibes when I see this icecold woman. Who sues their own granddaughter three weeks after the death of their own daughter???
All just to make more money. She's just odd. But the press conference shows that none of them asked the right questions.

She plotted and schemed since she was 14 to marry Elvis she is so disgusting that she forced herself on Elvis in every way. Child Bride is the truth about Priscilla. Her book was full of lies and the author who wrote Priscilla‘s book said that she didn’t investigate and didn’t research if what Priscilla told her is the truth or not. She just wrote it without confirming any of the things Priscilla said. The author even suspects and is uncertain of everything Priscilla told her. Everybody despises Priscilla, including Elvis‘s family and friends. That woman plays the victim card but she has sooooo many skeletons in her basement. Yes, he had bad temper sometimes, but he had a lot of pressures on him . She was one of the persons he had around so it was easy to vent and his frustrations and bad moods. Has it never happened to us to do the same with the people around us? Are we all angels? Was it possible that Elvis was always like this with her? I hope you are not referring to Elvis as the P word? A paedophile actually means someone who is sexually attached to 'prepubescent' children (typically 12 or younger) Having sex with someone who not quite the age of content (although still should be taken as seriously) is not the same as being a paedophile. Priscilla have always said they never had sex when she was 14. She said this again the other day. (And the age of content in Germany, where Elvis and Priscilla met, is 14.) They did not see each other for over 2 years and actually became a couple in 1962/3 when she was 17 nearly 18. He was actually dated Anita Wood from 1957 -62.
Regarding this film, people need to remember that the social norms of 1950s and 60s are not the same now. In England, in this era, you left school at 15 (unless you were very privilege) and was expected to go to work and act like an adult. Joan Collins said in her book when you hit 14 you stop 'being a child' and were expected to act and dressed in a mature way. Many people were married by late teens and early 20s.

This woman has never been coherent with herself, stole money from every member of the family (and we have seen what she has done recently after Lisa's passing). Now we have to see those false tears while she behaves as a world superstar. She has always shown herself as a victim. She was conscious of everything she did from the beginning and she can simply admit maybe they weren't made for each other, without always putting down Elvis' image. She left him to discover herself but she enjoyed his money her whole life. Yes, this is her side of her story, this is how she saw the relationship...but are we so sure things went as she has described?
