It is like combat dancing...but Muay boran is Deadly kind of dance...martial art dance that is dangerous to its opponents...still very beautiful...love it
I actually had the chance to train this weekend with Suphan and Mami. Awesome, very inspiring and a lot of fun too! Besides that, some of the things they said and showed gave me a deeper understanding of Muay Thai. Kob kun krab and Be Muay!!
Imagine knowing Muay boran, Brazilian jiu-jujitsu, and judo. You have incredibly deadly strikes, chokes and locks, and throws and takedowns. That would make for a deadly fighter indeed.
If you dont know you Anderson SIlva is you should look at some of his highlights. He has a black prajied in Muay Thai, black belt in BJJ, black belt in judo, 5th degree black belt in tkw, and has very good boxing and wrestling. Is considered the GOAT of mma.
Why do others always have to say there martial art is better, if you do one martial art what ever it be you should respect all martial arts they all have there good techniques and bad, youse what works for you mix it up, muay boran has a lot of amazing techniques this is a great video thanks for sharing.
Most martial arts are similar in the root, I've done several martial arts during my life and I see they're are very similar but by understanding the techniques one can improve as a martial artist. That's why I lve this kinda videos
I realize your comment is 4 years old but I would say it's because there are so many irrational martial arts and artists out there that people can't help but put these martial arts in a hierarchy of effectiveness. No one wants to die because they chose the wrong fighting/self defense system.
Im sorry about that I can't understand any word form this video, but, I'm happy to understand many of the demonstration throughout the video, hope that I'll practice it by hard.
The predecessor of TKD is Karate, Korean general who invented it was a student of Gichin Funakoshi the Shotokan creator. He learned Karate and then inventet 2 000 years old martial art. Same goes for most Korean martial arts, Hapkido creator trained Karate, Aikido and Judo etc Have you ever seen taekkyeon ? It doesnt even look similar to TKD. Though TKD is one of best martial arts for kicks I like it alot. You can see how it looks in human weapon when they go to Korea.
The first basic training for Muay Boran is Mae Mai Muay Thai. Teaches you defense and counter. After that you can go into Look Mai Muay Thai which is the advance level of Muay Boran. But more than half of these techniques aren't used today because it's illegal for fight sports.
Like the Video, when there are no gloves or rules the dynamics change, Muay Thai is so effective because it is simple stuff done really well, by super fit fighters who are as hard a s nails. Muay Boran reminds me of old school Ju Jutsu, understanding the weak points and how to hurt people effectively. Please make some more.
Great style of fighting. I am a master of the Tiger Art and I seem to find great use of Muay Boran when mixed with my Tiger Art. They are both great offense and with tigers defense it's so effective. I know 4 arts and they all have great techniques that contribute to many different things.
There are some martial arts that were never meant for the battlefield but are still popular today. Caporea (brazilian&african martial art), Boxing, and Karate were never really "battlefield arts" Judo and Aikido were used in the Japanese battle fields because the opponents were armored so you just wanted to get them on the ground and get their sword. But you are correct. I like meeting smart people on youtube
Same goes to karate, traditional karate only used opened hands tecniques wich where very dangerous, for example ''nukite'' its a open hand atack that can go to de throat, stomach, external bone, ribs... but karate masters started to use close hands to teach kids to prevent serious injuries
I love those 'speed-bag' parry movements... It's something I picked up from Systema, but I almost never see it done. I'm going to go practice some of these variations now. Very, very cool.
Think of it this way, what are the dominant martial arts used in mma competitions or employed by various militaries. The most common variant in mma is kickboxing/muaythai/wrestling/bjj. The most common forms used by militaries are sambo/krav maga/systema/MAC which are a combination of muaythai/kickboxing/wrestling/bjj. This mix is tried and has been deemed the most efficient by modern armies.
Thank you very much for this 30 Muay Boran Techniques video......i´m half thai and praktice this Muay Thai and fighting to and thats can be my technik better to praktice
yup I train in ITF but we train elbows, knees, palms as well as use of leg kicks to be used for self defense. We only use hands and feet for sparring (no shins) and we always need to hit above the belt so it's kind of sterile but if you omit techniques just used for points it's an okay style, I find the rules quite tedious but training is training, new muay thai place opened up nearby so I'll be training there to for the best of both worlds :)
Id like to mix boxing, muay boran, shotakan or kykoshan or kempo karate and jiu jitsu.maybe learn a couple judo throws and sweeps, maybe a couple akido throws an learn some kaili and escrima and kendo weapon techniques.i love the way oliver grunner mixes boxing, karate, muay thai, wing chun and jiu jitsu. I like jeet kun do and krav maga and chuck kun do,chuck norris's system. A little boxing with alot of karate and tae kwond and judo and jiu jitsu.
just for interest there is a thai style called tomoi, which is a combination of siam muay and silat from nth Malaya, many of the tecnlks are more military like ,groin strikes ,lower body strikes-put in jak Othman tomoi in search engine-it came about because nth provinces of Malaya were part of siam for a couple of centuries,so this mix evolved
The original forms of TKD are not unlike traditional Karate, which itself can also be extremely devastating. We focus on learning the obscure applications and subtleties of nerve techniques, pressure points and joint manipulation rather than how fast we can kick or how high we can jump. We learn the common principles that make techniques effective. Unfortunately many schools miss these fundamental aspects of training, but that does not make an art useless, only the instructor.
Just like Muay Thai, current TKD has also been modified for sports rather than combative, both combat techniques were developed in times of conflict and effectively used in each region. Jst respect each martial arts. It ain't dependent on the art itself but rather it's user...

I agree with you on the practicality of Muay Boran, but I don't on TKD. I also train TKD and it is just as practical as MB including Taekkyeon its ancient predecessor. Also, no art is better then any other it is the practitioner that makes the art effective.
Taekwondo ancestor it's the korean Taekkyon, made by the nobles Hwoarang to stop the invasions incoming to the kingdom of Koryo. The Hwoarang were the equivalent to samurais or Knights. The general Choi Hong Hi restaured it with some shotokan Karate, and mixing it with the Tang Soo Do to restaure the spirit of the Korena people, to give them an identity. I respect Muay Thai and i'd like learn it, But my Tae Kwon do is my strenght and i'm ready to hold this whoever challenges me. Thanks.

Christopher Ramos aikido over judo everytime
Not really judo is better.
Search the web for a martial art named "Ling Lom". It has everything. Deadly strikes, chokes and locks, and throws and takedowns and much more.
that is call MMA

That is correct. For Muay thai and most other martial arts, as well.

Muay thai boran is actually like their kung fu, the muay thai kickboxing is added from this plus american boxing, so it is real muay thai
Very good. So I wanted to train this art , but I'm from Brazil and it is difficult to find it here
You can always order the books and or analyze the videos.

Actually, Muay Thai Boran is Muay Chaiya. Nowadays, Muay Thai sport has been adapted from Muay Chaiya.
The reason that how we called Muay Chaiya. That because in the past, This kind of Muay Thai Boran, Only high rank soldiers have the right to trained and they could training in the palace only. One of the master of Muay Thai Boran has retired from military service and ordained to be a monk in Chaiya district of Surattani province, southside in Thailand.(I can"t remember his name) And after that he been a Muay Thai Boran teacher and a monk at the same time. He taught this kind of Muay Thai Boran to the people in Chaiya district. Later, The People called Muay Chaiya.
That 's not all. Acient Muay Thais (Muay Boran) are Mauy Thasao(Praya Pichai) Muay Lopburi Muay Korat and Muay Chaiya.
This was very interesting ! What are those spikes on their hands ? I thought it was a myth that spikes, shells, broken glass etc were used on their hands. Anyway these techniques are very elegant, are there any other good muay boran technique videos on youtube ?
Rope knots I think
I like old style Muay Thai

I agree but demonstrations that I have seen are not aggressive enough. a trained fighter will not stand there and let your preform a move.

I have watched some high tier Muay thai fights and a lot of their movements look sloppy in comparison. Now I am sure they are great athletes so I am not knocking them by saying sloppy

This is dope. Train Muay Thai but also practice this for life or death situation.

Thanks.
