- In this video, I go over the basics of electro-mechanical design and repair. I also fix up a pretty cool cigarette vending machine. At least it's not vape.
UPDATE: I just found out that this machine is from the 60's, not the 50's. FAKE NEWS! What an idiot. Please replace all references to the 50's with the 60's (in general, not just for this video).
Gotta love the bluetooth enabled vacuum lol! I didn't know anything like a coinop cigarette machine existed, and it is the most flavour country thing I have ever seen!
I'm old , And I believe they discontinued/Banned them from businesses. Back in the late 80's due to children being able to make purchases. Was a hardware store that had one in it when I was a kid. The older kid's would buy packs out of it.
There are some nice Vintage ones if you really like Coin-Op.
@thisshouldbeentertaining3386 There was a Chevron station in my area that had one outside. This was in 1992 and middle/high school kids would buy their cigarettes there.
I remember these! I would pull the coin return lever and hear a "hum click hummmmm click" as a kid in a second hand store near my home. These were in bowling allies and bars way into the late 80's early 90's believe it or not! I could buy a pack of smokes at 15 years old at the bowling ally!! (Don't smoke kids! bad, bad, bad! seriously!). Great video! I have always had a knack for taking anything apart and fixing it. Nice to learn the name of the things I was "fixin'" inside the machines. Keep the videos coming!
I just discovered your channel yesterday and immediately subscribed. I recognized the amount of effort you put into explaining the subject matter, the diagrams, voice overs, humor, editing, etc. it's extremely well done. I can imagine it takes a mountain of hours to produce one video and to compress that into an entertaining (less than 20 minute) video shows your true talent. I hope you continue to make more videos in the future!
Thank you for this comment. These videos require, generally, an hour of editing for every minute of the video. That's why I only upload every few months. That said, there may be more on the way!
Excellent demonstration - thanks! As one of my dad's friends would say, "from soup to nuts".
Fantastic job of explaining electromechanical machine operation. I have restored several juke boxes in the past, so this was a fun video for me. Subscribed, keep up the good work and humor!
Nice fix, and good product placement at the end. I don't smoke but you'd have to convert that machine for credit card use for today's economy.
Or extend that accumulator tube by 30-40 feet.
Sorry to hear your grandfather passed away.
With all the domino's analogies. Surprised the video wasn't sponsored by Domino's Pizza.
We tried but the deal fell through. We're trying for Chuck E. Cheese's next time.
In the 60s I was a teenager who smoked. I had mixed experiences with such machines; about a third of the time they'd keep my money but not give me my smokes. Being a teenager I wasn't supposed to smoke so it was hard to get refunds even if there was someone in charge nearby. Ah, the good old days. I quit smoking in @72 but I still miss that addicting habit!
It's amusing to think of a time when smoking was so common that a proprietary vending machine would be profitable, considering the massive cultural opposition to it now. I myself love the occasional cigar, which is why I bought this machine in the first place.
Is there a max price you can set for this machine, or can you still get a pack of Lucky Strikes for 25¢?
Right now the top contact of the accumulator is set to 80 cents. You can adjust the rod itself to increase that price, but I do not know what the maximum is.
@@coin-opcorner Imagine what inflation will do in another 70 years!
@@coin-opcorner In Kentucky (a big tobacco state) cigs were 35 cents a pack in the 60s. On a trip to NYC in 1968, I saw a vending machine with cigs at $1.25 per pack. God only knows what they cost up there today! Probably $10 a pack and yes, people still buy them!
Sorry for your loss. Small world. Just found your UA-cam. And was that a Sega Super Giga you were bringing in? I was going to ask you if you come across any Como Hollycranes. I would be interested. I passed on a nice one cause my truck was having a problem.
It's a UFL Lucky Crane. I think it's basically the same as the SEGA Skill Diga and the Holly. I'm working on a video for it next.
Pre-2000's cocktail cranes in general are absurdly rare, and the ones with the Holly/Diga/Lucky mech are another level on top of that. I couldn't ever part ways with this one. It's my baby now.
@@coin-opcorner Looking forward to some videos.
New subscriber sir always watching your videos very interesting❤
Do you do repairs on a 1965 cigarette machine? Where you located?
I can fix anything (other than a decent meal) and I'm located near London KY. I rarely have time for repairs for anyone else though.
What would happen when the credit rod gets pushed to the highest position and you keep inserting money ?
It passes all the contacts and you can't pick anything. You can only hit the coin return switch.
Please make more videos!
As soon as I have time, I will.
I see you have a little helper I use to have a little help too in my videos but she since has passed
He's not too little, or too much help, but he is good company. Always sad to lose a cat.
No lucky strikes? Camels will do, i suppose.
