You guys just don't know what this song did to Korea. It was practically the 1st song SM released in 2013, the 1st comeback of any group that year and everyone went crazy. When they were at the Dream Concert, every BUT EVERY fandom that were there sang the song, not just the fanchant but the entire song, you couldn't even hear the girls sing because the entire stadium was chanting the song. I GOT A BOY is THAT bop.

this song isn’t indicative of the style that they’re known for as it was very experimental at the time for kpop but snsd are pretty much concept chameleons in that they have and can pull off just about anything. next song I would recommend would be their previous single “the boys” which is iconic and shows off more off their vocals. I’ve been a fan of them since 2010-11 so I can go on and on about their talent and influence on kpop girl groups to this day but I don’t want to ramble so I’ll end it here.

If you look at the lyrics, there is a story inside this song, and it’s told from multiple girls perspectives. The change in beat is actually make sense.
From 5:15 - 5:33 "Gosh! Look at her, look. What happened to her that she cut her hair? From head to toe, her style has changed
Why did she do that? I’m curious to death" it’s Sooyoung and Yuri talking while the rest of the girls are saying “OMO”. They are talking about a particular girl and gossiping about how she is acting. This opens up the scene already that the subject is a particular girl who is going through change.
6:42 - 8:25 "Who is she? Ridiculous. Do you know you’re too self-assertive? I guess she really liked him! She became so pretty and sexy, it’s because of him, right? I almost asked her what her new makeup was" The reason is revealed, she’s got a boy and she’s changing herself.
8:26 - 8:28 Tiffany says "Ayo! Stop! Let me put it down another way." and the beat change. This line shows that the perspective is changing, and that perspective is of the main girl who has the boy.
9:42 - 11:24 "I got a boy, a handsome one! I got a boy, a kind one! I got a boy handsome boy, who took all my heart" This part is a complete monologue inside her own head about her own worries and doubts, hopes and dreams.
11:24 - 12:05 Seohyun lines come in "Listen to me, you all know him, right? He’s a bit young but he’s full inside" You notice all the girls are turning to each other? this is the gossip train, she is telling everyone about her boyfriend.
12:07 - 12:55 The beat change again. "I’m really angry, my boy doesn’t look at me as a girl. What should I do when I feel hopeless? Should I make him feel jealous? I’m so upset! What do I do?" She is feeling the push and pull part of the relationship and is stressing over everything
12:56 - 12:58 "Don’t stop! Let’s bring it back to 140" it could be the time stamp in the song not MV or the beats per minute.
13:43 - 13:57 "Always next to me, it’s you, who’s on my side and listens to me. I’m happy as it is right now, cause everything will work" The change in beat signifies a big revelation, near the end of the story it is getting wrapped up. She’s found a good spot in the relationship and believes that everything is right.

Fun fact: The MV for Girls' Generation's "I Got A Boy" was produced by Zanybros the same company that is now representing the Kpop soloist AleXa. In 2013 this video topped the charts and it beat American MVs by Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, etc. for video of the year at the UA-cam video awards. SNSD are "the nation's girl group" and considered queens for a reason. :D They are the girl group, that most other girl groups who came after them take inspiration from.
Jessica, who is one of the two Korean-American members; Taeyeon who is the leader of SNSD and one of the top female vocalists in Kpop (also one of the most popular female solo artists); and Seohyun were the singers during the ballad breakdown section. As you know, SM is known for their power vocalists, so you will find amazing vocalists like this in all of SM's groups, including boy groups.
This was the era when Kpop songs were created to give an equal amount of lines to every member. So, because SNSD has 9 members, this song is longer than a lot of Kpop songs, which gives them time to do a lot of different things in the song. ;P
Switching up the beat in the song is just kind of become SM's signature style and it really became a thing ever since SNSD's "I Got A Boy". Case in point, in "I Got a Boy" Jessica literally says, "Lets bring it back to 1-40," which is a reference to switching up the tempo -- changing it from that slower ballad section and bringing the song back to the faster beat.
"I Got a Boy" is structured the same way as YG Entertainment's boy group BigBang's song, "Bang Bang Bang," but "Bang Bang Bang" came out in 2015, 2 years later. And now pretty much all of SM's songs are structured in this way.

This song is known as the Bohemian Rhapsody of K-pop. The reason why it has so many genre switches is because the concept of the song is a group of girls sharing their boy troubles. Each switch-up is a new story. SNSD are concept queens and have literally owned every concept they've tried. They're incredibly versatile, but, I feel like their debut song Into The New World (which came out in 2007) captures their spirit best. It's nostalgic, energetic, vocally-masterful, and as iconic as it gets. That song is literally known as the unofficial anthem of K-pop and it's a rite of passage for every girl group to learn this in their pre-debut stage.
Btw, every member of SNSD is a household name in South Korea because they're very famous actressess, soloists, DJs, variety stars, musical theatre artists, creative directors, and businesswomen.
6:36 and 9:56 and 12:45 is Taeyeon. She IS transcendent. She IS the blonde lady with the Killing Voice. She and IU are the top 2 female soloists in the genre, and her vocals are almost unmatched in K-pop.

    1:36 Secret to a good relationship. 😅
2:41 Those girls are savage comediennes doing idol stuff.
5:39 This is not the usual SNSD mv, but during those time SNSD are already so successful and confident that they can risk or do this type of changing genre.
F(x) might be SM's "experimental group," but SNSD are the blue print of the girl group because they have tried almost all concepts from innocent cute, bubbly pop --> all the way to --> confident sexy. This way, newer girl groups can just get inspiration and adjust it according to their own. Also, there were originally nine members of SNSD, and all of them have become successful with their individual careers, showing idols that being an "idol" is just the beginning. These girls have become soloists, TV/movie/musical actresses, DJ, music and award hosts, variety show cast, models, etc. So yeah, more than the MV genre, younger idols look for what path SNSD has taken.
9:20 There's actually a whole 'I Got A Boy' misheard mv available here in YT 🤣. And since it doesn't have the pink bedroom scene, the 140 really goes back to the same scene at 140 (time) with 140 bpm.

SNSD were certainly my gateway to kpop back in 2010, they debuted after TVXQ and Suju but before SHINee and f(x) just for an idea of context! Their biggest hits in Korea were Gee and Genie, The Boys internationally, I think genre wise you'd most enjoy Catch Me If You Can, You Think and Run Devil Run for more hard-hitting concepts and the eponymous Girls Generation for a rock song from their rookie era!

SNSD is THE kpop group. they basically transformed the whole music industry from an industry that was majorly about male singers and groups to a girls generation. They were the trend and it wasnt just one or two popular members but each of the nine members took the spotlight in various fields.
They are the idols of todays generation of idols, both male and female idols.
Their debut song is nowadays used as an anthem for change in social and political protests and parades.
Taeyeon, the leader is one of the most popular singers in SK basically since she debuted more than 15 y ago to this day. Her nickname is Trust.and.listen.to.taeyeon as in Trust that she releases high quality music and listen to her beautiful voice.
I know that todays groups are waaay more popular internationally but in terms of impact on a generation i dont think theres possible that another group will ever come close to them.

SNSD are such concept queens! They'd do a cute song, then a sexy song next then somehow also dabble in different genres with every song. I Got A Boy somehow managed to do all of that. Honestly, I hated this when it came out. It was too much for me, and I far preferred their many other much more melodic songs. Now, I don't mind the song, but I still don't go out of my way to play the song on my own.

Yet another Korean remake of a western song by SNSD and SM. The original song is called Shiner On U by Katy Tiz.

    • @gomezgomezian3236
      @gomezgomezian3236 8 місяців тому +6

It isn't a remake. Katy Tiz simply sang the Demo produced by the song writers to sell their song. It is common in Pop music for writers/producers to write a song, and then use a session singer to tape a demo version, so that can be played to the company/artist to whom they are trying to sell the song. (It is much easier if you can hear what the writers intended it to sound like, than having to imagine it from a lyric sheet and a score. Oh and, generalisation, most pop singers cannot read sheet music).
The company/artist that buys the rights to the song, may then make whatever changes they wish to better suit their artist or, as in this case, to change some (or all) lyrics into the applicable language of the artist.
Put simply, it was never Katy Tiz's song, as it was neither released or 'owned' by Katy Tiz. And, if by western song, you mean that it was written in English, then yes ... the writers of this song do not speak Korean ... but they actually wrote it during a 'writing camp', aimed at producing songs to sell into the Korean market.
