- A playthrough of Capcom's 1998 versus-fighting game for the Sony PlayStation, Pocket Fighter.
Played through on difficulty level six with Ken.
Pocket Fighter is a really fun, cutesy take on the 90s Capcom fighters, starring all super-chibi anime versions of a load of classic characters. The game is pretty simple and straightforward compared to their more technical fighters of the time, but it's got enough depth to prevent you from button-mashing.
I have no idea why they changed the name instead of leaving it as Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix. Sure, it's lame, but it's hardly like Pocket Fighter is any better.
I love how weird the storylines are. It strikes me as super weird that Ken's whole story revolves around his want to have an affair behind Eliza's back, even though he only wants to have tea with a cute girl. Wtf?

This game has some great art, and it's got a lot of humor. It's too bad that it lacks the depth needed to really give it any staying power. Still, it's fun while it lasts, and you'll definitely laugh a few times.
It's quite fun to play, even with a small roster. This version rarely gets played by me anymore as I have a superior version on the Alpha Anthology on PS2. This version has cuts on win poses, other smaller animations, plus a pretty big one, when you knock your opponent "around the world". Very noticeable absence in the PS1 version.

Lol, this game never makes me bored. The humor and the fun really makes me laugh so hard. I wish capcom make a sequel for this, and add more character to the roster.
I was hoping they make one using the SFV base roster, Chibi Birdie, Vega, FANG, Rashid, Laura, Ryu, Chun-Li, Bison, Necali, Ken, and Cammy,

Pocket Fighter rolls off the tongue a lot better, it's a lot shorter, and it's also the original name of the game in Japan.
It also does a lot more to explain what the game actually IS since the pocket aesthetic is the main appeal of the game.
If anything, I'm not sure why they went with the "Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix" name in US arcades.

He's also very boring, being the only character with no outfit changes in this game. Even Akuma slips into something funny during some of his move sequences.

I rented this version of pocket fighter for my PS1 back in 1999 from blockbuster video. It was a fun game. I never played the arcade version until 2001 via mame.

The characters easiest for me to use were chun li, Sakura and ibuki, 😂 been pressing the buttons of the controller recklessly just to get combos because I can’t memorize them
I use to play this game in college, it's fun but the game play wasn't as crisp as SF4
After having played SF4, this game to me is far better. These 2D sprites are gorgeous, the backgrounds gorgeous, and the fun factor is high. SF4 bored me to tears.
