This time on THE IDENT REVIEW, we're turning the clock back to 2012, to the launch of the latest offshoot in the CHANNEL 4 family, 4SEVEN! This channel aims to show the best that the C4 network has to offer, but how do its idents stack up? We'll be taking a look at those that appeared at launch, and some of the follow ups!
The Ident Review began in May 2018 and since has spawned over 100 episodes and even a spin-off show, the Ident Review Extra! It remains a firm AMTV favourite to this day!

I hate it! Good thing I'm not in the UK to experience such thing!
The pool one was the first one I saw from 4seven when I watched the channel for the first time in 2012 on a particular Saturday afternoon when they were showing a triple-bill of Deal or No Deal that day.
The Supermarket one looked cool.
Where else would you find a checkout desk styled like a number 7?
They could do with new idents though to avoid it going stale.
So cool you've featured these - made over 10 years ago ! Just a bit of context to your commentary - the sparse / laidback / subtle nature of these was 100% a creative choice. Pool, Allotment, Supermarket were all shot on a large motion control rig - yes of course there was plenty of Post, but what was shot formed the basis. More people could have been included without changing any of this (re. your "3D nature" comment on Pool ). The 90-degree concept was tricky to conceptualise, and we prevized them all, this being imported into the moco rig. Again, cool to see these here - Thanks !

The first time I saw the Spaghetti Junction ident, I literally couldn't see the Four logo anywhere and I genuinely thought that the Junction itself was supposed to be the four. Only now do I realise that the four is just really small. Also, I've only just noticed that there is a person at the swimming pool, it's just they are super hidden and near the end. Plus, the Halloween ident is a bit ominous and even on its own is spooky and makes it feel like liminal space horror. Chills.
The spaghetti road idea is quiet striking visually and with the calm sounds behind it, I think it puts the focus on the artistry of it bit aside from that, their quite minimalistic and bland. Great video ❤️
Great episode! There could be beauty in its simplicity, but it would've been nice to see them do more. We probably won't see any more idents until Channel 4 rebrands though.
I absolutely hate the Halloween ident for 4Seven, but thanks for doing the ident review.
These idents, despite being a little basic, still stand out from one another! The only nitpick is that they basically don't move other than a few degrees. These idents are still creative, like you, Adam M. Keep on going!

They've not run it like an archive channel can't remember that, but more like a timeshuffle channel so called, where it plays recent programmes from the Channel 4 schedule which even now seems to include films, 5Select is supposed to be on similar lines but is more a general/archive channel.
More4 was supposed to vaguely be the Channel 4 archive channel and is best placed to be, but they run it more as a lifestyle documentaries channel!
I like that 4Seven kept its idents from 2012 and 2013
The Spaghetti junction ident looks like a messy highway, and I love it.
The Supermarket ident sounds like a beeping checkout
there are some cases where the 4⁷ logo is hard to distinguish... very interesting idents though.
Very good episode, although I am still surprised that a channel like 4Seven is still operating.......I mean most of the time there are no continuity announcers on there

My most favourite ident is swimming pool, although my least favourite ident is the Halloween ident, I had a funny thought that Zombie Davina McCall from the Big Brother horror series dead set was responsible for the damage 😂, what's your favourite ident from 4Seven?

They really do need to rebrand. Although IF ITS NOT BROKE, DONT FIX IT! @channel4 since they were used for more than a decade but just changed a logo since 2018. I feel worried for C4 no matter what
