When you said im happy with the result but not the performance, it reminds me of what my coach would say 'A win is a win. Even if you hated it.' Well done!!!

I’m training for my first official run (10 k) in September here in Alberta.. Abby, you should come out here and do a half marathon. Would be wicked.
I use to run professionally through my adolescence and the beginning of my adult life.. and I ended up getting pregnant at 20 and then married soon after. I’m not 29, and my goal in my last year of my 20’s and as a mom of two sweet boys.. I want to get back into competitive running. I will not become a professional runner again, but I want to start to race and spend my 30’s pushing myself in a way I’ve never thought possible. Beating my 19 year old PR.
Thanks for the inspiration, and amazing job on your time. It’s been a pleasure watching your action report and I look forward to seeing your next moves.

Congrats! I ran the same race, started a few mins behind you :) will be working on increasing speed too, I love the 1/2 distance… not ready to trade it in for the full yet!

Thank you so much for this recap. I'm currently training for a half as well. I had a baby last year and just got my base back. Doing a 14 week training plan. I use the team plans app and love I can focus on injury prevention. Thanks for being such a honest and realistic trainer. 😊

Congrats on your race! Right now I’m training for the Philmont Heavy Half in New Mexico. My goal is to be able to run uphill for longer periods of time since this race goes up and down a ridge ☠️

Congratulations!! Always remember you must focus on the mile you are in!
I like to ride along the course so I have an idea on terrain.
Races often have elevation chart on their website
We always did a ton of hill training as our goal race had decent hills including one called the Silencer
I have done 18 half marathons
A few I was pacing not racing
My fastest was one where I had to stop and use the portapotty and had to wait my turn
After that my focus was on picking up the pace each mile
I am 67 and sad I no longer race or run much
Would love to get those two last half marathons in
    I did race two marathons
Always focus doing your best for that day and situation
You can only do your best and not every course or weather situation will be what you train in
    Train in rain

Your story has taught me to see things differently.
I love that you have a “what’s next” plan and are ready to achieve those goals.

Felt very similar on my first half, just not having the power I wanted at the end. I read "training for the uphill athlete" and without testing know I have "aerobic deficiency syndrome" very high vo2 max but a low threshold. Since then I added wayyy more zone 2 and no speed work until 8 weeks out. I have a 15 mile mountain trail race on June 1st so will see how it goes!

Abby you need to reach out to Ali Feller (Ali on the Run, she has Crohn’s disease) to see who has the highest record for most bathroom stops on a run

I ran the full at the Toronto Marathon and my distance was off by 500m too!!! And the finish around a corner and up a hill…WTAF. Glad it’s not just me 😂

Race courses are measured on tangets using the shortest possible distance to take the course. So, unless you perfectly take every single inside turn, you will always end up racing a bit longer of a distance than race distance. I find I have to hold a faster pace than goal pace in races to achieve a certain time. All courses are this way unless they're a complete straight line.

I signed up for my first 10 mile (yes, mile, not kilometer 😅) and it'll be the longest run I've ever done. I've ran 5k's for years but this is going to be pushing things. The run is at the end of September so I have lots of time to train at least

Does weightlifting(lower body wise) affect how fast your pace is? Bc I currently 14 months PP and I’ve been trying to improve my mileage time but I’m stuck at the 8:40 and up mark 🥲 and I conclude it’s due to weightlifting. I do my cardio afterwards but I give myself hours to recover before going for a run

    • @abbypollock
      @abbypollock  3 місяці тому +2

It can, but usually due to its effects on recovery. As a general rule of thumb - I keep my weights and runs on separate days or put my priority session first 💛 if that still doesn’t help, maybe consider decreasing weightlifting volume.

  • @genregarden

Do you (or anyone in the comments) have a specific video to help with getting back into running post partum? I just hit 3 months pp and want to make sure I'm doing it safely and not rushing my recovery! 🤍
