Reavx MASH will always hold a special place in my heart. My father, long gone from cancer, was an MP in the US army and served in the Korean conflict. He never spoke much of it and I never asked except for one occasion. He shared being an MP he guarded the perimeter of a MASH unit. MASH is and always will be one of the great series of all time. It truly touched our emotions.
When the MASH theme started playing I lost it, bawled like a child. And I bet I wasn't the only one (besides four of his grandkids at the table). To see such a thoughtful man be rewarded for a job well done is a joy. He's always been consistent to himself and the things he believes in, he's always been an instrument for good, in his own peculiar way, and that's well worth celebrating. Congratulations, you wonderful man.
Feel so fortunate to have met Alan Alda on the MASH set in the summer of '78. It was a surprise visit for our YCC kids working out of Will Rogers State Park in the Santa Monica Mountains where the MASH set was located. He was so gracious, coming over and talking with the kids, and asking them about their work. A lifetime memory for all of us!
He is so pure and sweet! In interviews, he is genuinely curious about people. He tells stories where he sits next to strangers at parties and asks them about themselves and is genuinely interested!
I still go through periods every 5-10 years where I have to watch MASH, and while the whole cast was perfect, it is Alda’s timing and delivery as Hawkeye that I could never get enough of.
Aww I love Alan Alda, he really deserves this award. I'm 15 and M.A.S.H has become one of my favourite shows because of him - his portrayal as Hawkeye really made the show a success!! WE LOVE U HAWKEYE!
Grande Alan Alda. Un gentleman in this world of maniacs. Thank you for all the smiles and laughters you always gave me, for the elegant intelligent and pensive beauty of your soul and face and jokes of yesterday and today. From Italy with soooo much love .
My love for you transcends everything, dear one. You are the brightest of gems, you're irreplaceable, and a true gift. The beloved memories you leave with us will go down in history, but they will never compare to joy that was knowing we lived on this planet at the same time as you, and we got to watch you have so much fun exploring it! Please keep doing so as long as you possibly can, Love! 💜💜💜
Mr. Alda reminds us to 'play', which is particularly refreshing in a society that can take itself too seriously. He puts acting in perspective by saying 'it can't solve everything, but it wouldn't hurt.' Bravo.
There are no words to describe how much I love this man with every fiber of my being...and I don't even know him. Then I see Mike Ferrall beaming and I just know how much that man is loved.
Love, love, love Alan Alda! He so deserves recognition. I think I can probably quote lines from every single MASH episode, because I STILL watch them, over and over! Class act acceptance speech and very timely. Cyberhugs to you, Alan Alda.
EVERYONE in the crowd, these superstar actors and the like, all were silent as the crypt listening to this man talk and half of them looked like they were about to cry. Thank you Alan, for your wonderful contributions to the industry. We sha'll never see his like again.
I wish people would look at the movies that Alan Alda directed. The Four Seasons, Sweet Liberty, A New Life and Betsy's Wedding. All are funny and have pitch perfect performances. Sadly they were largely ignored by critics and audiences and he never directed a feature again after 1990
I was 4 when MASH first aired and Alan Alda was the first feminist that I knew. I became a bleeding-heart liberal thanks to Alan Alda. So magnanimous and humble a human being, so talented and incredibly gifted an actor/writer/director/humanitarian. Seeing him recognized in this way is touching -- and long overdue.
@@JoelAWeiss Thank you for that. How nice of you. Did you know that Alan has been married to the same woman for decades, and his best friend - of over 50 years - is the great Itzhak Perlman?
As a young man I was asked about anyone who struck me as a "role model." Alan Alda's portrayal of "Hawkeye" was once such person. I always found his combination of intelligence, humor, irreverence, and deep compassion for the human condition worthy of aspiration.
Alan Alda/Hawkeye Pierce - one of a kind of man, i love MASH & I never tire of watching it. You are 1 of a Kind for Sure - This Old World could use more like you that is for sure. God Bless You!!

Yes, I read Alan's autobiography, when she was still alive, he wouldn't talk about his mother at all, not until after she passed away and his book was published. Robert Alda, soon enough , had to divorce her for good reason and I don't blame him, later marrying an Italian woman.
@@gracealexandre3381 I remember, once on TV Alan said his grandchildren were saying to him, "Where's your Oscar, Grandpa?" That was when he was nominated for "The Aviator" movie, but didn't make it.
