Regarding getting stuck; Great job at stopping yourself from digging in deeper! That saved you. It would be a good idea to learn how to use the 4x4, and carry some offroad traction boards in case you get stuck in the future and nobody is around to help.
To add to your spot on advice, if you don't already you should carry an air compressor. You could have let some air out of the rear tires which may have helped, then put refill your tires once you're back on solid ground. Another thing, I am pretty sure your truck has crawl control. It would have got you out of that predicament very easily.
@@budget-adventure Learning how to engage 4x4 is necessary and easy. I get this made for a video hook, but it's not hard. It's probably one button in that rig. Learning to use traction boards and more techniques for getting unstuck is still worth learning, even in a Prius.
When Camper found you he hit the jack pot, Nikki you are the best and great with Camper. How anyone could've abandoned Camper or any animal is beyond me!! So happy for you both, those trees are absolutely amazing, thank you for sharing.🐶💙🥰🙂🙂
I wonder about that. Camper seems to be a well behaved dog with out problems. it does seem odd that he would be abandoned like that. He is healthy, loyal, good looking, no defective limbs or anything sickly about him. he is not aggressive or a Pitbull type dog. He seems like the last dog you would find abandoned. Really strange circumstances. If Camper was my dog and went missing, I would be pretty extreme in trying to get him back.
I have a pup who is a dead ringer for Camper. When we adopted her, we were told was rescued when she was turned in with the rest of her litter at a spay/neuter event in the 4 Corners area (southwest US). She is extremely smart, calm (except for her big bark when certain dogs/people pass our windows/fence), affectionate, and a major people-pleaser (aka biddable - we've never even had to bribe her with treats during training, she just wants is to make us happy and get snuggles). You can't always tell with mixes what their ancestry is from their appearance - but when another local rescue had another pup who shared the same build/coloring/markings, they did a DNA test and it came back as mostly Australian Shepherd, Australian Cattle Dog, and Border Collie. It would make sense to me if our dog had similar ancestry - agreeable dogs who seek out people and are just naturally a very good boy or girl would definitely have a leg up in a life where survival is based on competing for handouts (or even just being allowed to hang around and have access to scraps) in a community where there are lots of strays that are sort of treated as "community dogs" until they pick their person.

I found my dog on the side of the road. He was really skinny and it took a while to fatten him back up. Now, he is a very snobby eater. It's like he went from stray to food critic. He and Camper would get along great!
Nikki, your Toyota should be equipped with both a traction control switch, as well as a rear differential locker. Turning off traction control lots of times can get you unstuck out of minor situations, if that doesn't work flip on the rear dif locker which connects both wheels together so you get 100% traction on both wheels, that should have easily got you out of that pickle I think! Keep on rockin.
Really helps to get familiar with offroad driving if you own such a vehicle. Stuff like that traction control is pretty useless offroading. Also get familiar wich such topics as locking differentials, locking hubs and transfer case. To me it seems that it was still just in rear wheel drive. Maybe Nikki should take a trip and visit Matts Offroad Recover, Trail Mater or BSF Recovery team. :)
Yeahh 100%, I didn't see the front wheels turning either so it might have been in 2WD, central locker was probably not engaged and much less the rear (that truck hopefully has one) I would love to see a how to video made by Nikki, using the transfer case and lockers etc.
I'm hoping that she gets the owner's manual out and familiarizes herself with the capabilities of that rig. Others have pointed out that four wheel drive and a locking diff have to be engaged to work, and that there's a winch already on the truck. (Personally I think if she'd engaged 4H as soon as she heard a little slip she'd have driven right out.)

When you have the truck in the 4x4 mode, in reality, only the driver side front and passenger side rear tires are driving the truck. That's why the pasenger side tire was spinning and digging into the loose rocks. When you push the button to Lock The Rear Differential", then you get power equally to both rear tires. So long as there isn't any wheel slip relatively equal power goes to each wheel otherwise your tire wear would be much worse on one side than the other. When one wheel slips yes an open differential tends to dump all the power to the slipping wheel. Her truck does look like a more offroad equipped Tacoma so I would think it would have a rear locker. I would think that if she had it though she would have probably hit the button to lock it out.

It’s hard for me to conceptualize that trees could be that large! When you showed the tree next to your car my brain could not wrap my head around that!!! They are incredible
Please tell me you drove through the tree?! You have to! A memory I’ll never forget. From 8 years old to 34 years old, one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited.
With big rocks like that, you probably could’ve gotten yourself outta there. Always reverse first if you start to spin the tires out. And when you start, don’t do so in first gear. Use 3rd or fourth and your clutch to control the power (assuming you’re in a manual) and turn any traction control off, always makes getting stuck worse. Worse comes to the worst invest in a set of sand ladders, saves on hoping somebody is around to pull you out. Tyre pressure is also important. Lowering it is especially useful on sand or mud, more area on the ground = more traction.
Your comments go on forever. How cool is that. You're bringing all this to people who don't have the time, ability, or motivation to visit these places themselves. You're really a saint.
Kind folks helping You On the trail ! I'm diggin ' that coffee grinder , Provides some Early Morning Cardio :)! Blessings to You + Camper ! Divine health + Pats to Camper ♥️ Namaste Much Love Best 🇨🇦🌲🦆
So interesting to see the Redwoods Nikki, that was great. Also, I really appreciate hearing your perspective on finding dog friendly places, because if I ever hit the road, it would be with a fur friend. Camper is awesome too btw.
I didn’t read all the comments but - I suspect that people have already mentioned that your truck could have easily driven itself out of that (four wheel drive - if that doesn’t work lock the rear diff - four low - lower the tire pressure - if all that fails use the winch). I’m not blaming you or giving you a hard time, some one needs to teach you that stuff. Feel free to PM me if you want some suggestions on ways to learn. :)
Beat me to it. It looked like she was just in two wheel drive. Not sure what model this was built from, but my Tacoma has crawl control that would have walked right out of that.
Beat me to it as well. 4 wheel drive should have easily pulled out of that. Surprised the guy that helped her didn’t think of this. Or maybe he did and somehow it was actually in 4 wheel drive. Didn’t look like it though. I know a lot of people aren’t aware that in most 4 wheel drive trucks, you need to switch the mode to 4 wheel drive. As opposed to say an Audi that’s just always in all wheel drive.

She gotta get in. She's the new Baywatch and that's a straight dude drowning... Not many people know this, but camper is the reincarnate of hasslehoff... He went John Wayne and said "you drowning bud? Yea? Well learn to swim"

I have been loving your videos for some time. My retirement goals, are to travel this great country. Your adventures have helped me to add places to see to my bucket list. I very much appreciate you sharing your travels. Safe travels to you and Camper!
He was a rescue, they soon learn whats worthwhile to try and chase after, and its friendly humans that pay out in food, not squirrels. Dogs are domesticated by default, most dogs never grow up, they never have to. You are their parent for life, they never link the hunt instinct with where the food comes from. At some point camper likely figured out that chasing squirrels and birds doesnt pay off in an actual meal.
OK I love your adventurous travels videos, but... I'm a bit confused with the getting stuck part.... Are you not in a 4 wheel drive 4x4 Toyota Tacoma? You gotta be. If not, then why a winch, which you clearly don't know how to use, on a two wheel truck. You really should learn everything about that truck,or at least know how to engage 4 wheel drive and how to use that winch in case you get yourself into a sticky situation and no one is around to save you...
Nice moody and atmospheric drive. It’s nice to see that you’ve slowed down a bit from when I first met your. Back then you sprinted through all these beautiful scenic locations. Now you have some awesome panoramic and sustained views of these places. Uhm, so back when you took that dip in the river, and then you asked Camper if he wanted to take a swim as well. I could actually see the he was pretending not to hear you. He was blatantly ignoring you. He definitely didn’t want to freeze his thin skin fury body. He’s lacking any body fat to warn up quickly, and didn’t think you’d share your towel for him, since you were still shivering a bit? It also looked like his attitude was, excuse me but I wish to smell the rose’s like everyone I hear recommend to everyone that you should do every once in a while. And you’re right it is all your fault, because you have converted me into a foodie connoisseur, woof! I’m only asking because it’s the first time I’ve become aware of it. You always start you day off by exiting you vehicle and video your feet entering your footwear, but this was this first time I had noticed you had nail polish on your little piggies. Now which little piggy went we we we all around the country like you do? Oh I’ve seen, if you have large rubber floor mats placed in front of the stuck tire can also work to give you traction to escape from that particular dilemma as another option, if you didn’t have the help you had.
I live an hour from the Redwoods and it was where we spent a lot of time as a kid, day hiking, camping, road trips...it was our playground growing up. There is no other place on earth like it and it wasn't until I was older that I realized how unique and special it is...I think as a kid I just thought this is what the entire world looked like give or take. It's my favorite place to be still. When the wind isn't blowing, the quiet is amazing. We have some fantastic rivers and ocean views too in this area.

Love this, went there this past summer. Was absolutely gorgeous! Have to say though, I was more blown away by the giant Sequoias in Sequoia National Park than the Red Woods. But the location of the Red Woods is perfection to me.
Nikki - I just got a funny comment from someone about your swim in icy water - here was my response, i.e., a different POV: "I definitely don't relate - I'm the one who took an electric blanket to summer camp when I was a kid, and the cabin only had one light bulb. I had to take an adapter for the bulb socket and an extension cord. When electric blankets came out on the market, my Mother called the woman who ran the department and said, "I want the first one that comes in." It was for me! I still sleep under one!"

River rock can be decieving in looking like its fairly firm terrain to drive on. Yet as you found out it can be 'soft' . I wont repeat what others have said per how to use 4 wheel drive etc. But its always good to practice on different terrain where you can purposely get into the muck or even get stuck if someone is accompanying you in another truck to pull ya out. This way you'll know the limitations of what your truck can and can't do. No 4x4 truck is supreme, they do get stuck. If you dont have one already, a front winch is a great way to solo extract your truck ! Looking forward to the next episode !
I watched the whole video bringing back memories of driving that stretch of Hwy. I traveled that section a couple hundred times. The outdoors are pretty awesome down there. The cities are not to the level of the scenery. Good luck out there!

That breakfast looked totally yummy!!!! Even Camper was jonesing for it! Don't feel bad about getting stuck, it's a skillset and you'll get better at it as you do more off-roading! You did great!
Loved it when you went past the Bear statue and Camper does a double take! Lol he was so cute!
I couldn't get over the look on campers face 🤣 he was like wtf is that 🐻
My dog actually barks at the bears as we drive by thinking they're alive.
It’s hard for me to conceptualize that trees could be that large! When you showed the tree next to your car my brain could not wrap my head around that!!! They are incredible
i’m so curious, where are you living at? 😊 i live in Washington state so it’s hard to believe that trees WOULDN’T be that big! lol
@@mariaasmrr I’m in North Carolina right now! I used to be in NY though! Trees can get big but not THAT big
@@beccablogs8043 how neat!! 😊
Thanks!
Please tell me you drove through the tree?! You have to! A memory I’ll never forget. From 8 years old to 34 years old, one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited.
Awesome adventures the redwood trees looks gigantic & the scenery plus the beautiful clear blue water
"You know, for a street dog you've become quite the picky eater" this is what you get for introducing Camper to the good life 😂
Haha just like my dogs!
That truck is such a great space for y'all! I can't believe how big it gets when extended. Pretty incredible setup!
She obviously wasn't locked. I know that truck has lockers. But great advice. Off roader for years here.
I mean….Who wouldnt want to rescue a beautiful stranded woman!
Great info, that was my first thought and your info was spot on for all adventures to know!
Your comments go on forever. How cool is that. You're bringing all this to people who don't have the time, ability, or motivation to visit these places themselves. You're really a saint.
Kind folks helping You
On the trail !
I'm diggin ' that coffee grinder ,

CAMPER
Thank you for RESCUING NIKKI 2 YEARS AGO
So interesting to see the Redwoods Nikki, that was great. Also, I really appreciate hearing your perspective on finding dog friendly places, because if I ever hit the road, it would be with a fur friend. Camper is awesome too btw.
Thanks for sharing again it makes me smile when I see new video ready😊😊
Don't forget the truck has 4 wheel drive. I can see the CV axles.😀
😂 ya too funny
Silly
She either did it for dramatic effect or no one has shown her how to put it in 4 wheel.
😂😂😂😂😂
Even that guy didn't know 😂
Unequaled beauty in the redwoods. Thanks for your video that refreshed memories of camping there 60 years ago, several times.
Hey Nikki, your trap caught one ^^^
wasn’t able to tell but it look like she was in 2 wheel drive.
Yeah looked like she was in 2WD as the front tires did not spin as the rear was spinning. First thing i looked plus her tire pressure.
Another fun video from both you and Camper I look forward to them So relaxing and easy on the eyes SAFE and FUN TRAVELS
I know you are living life and may not read this but I have to tell you. I look forward to your episodes and you also inspired me to travel more and sleep in my Nissian Rouge. You are a badass and I have been in a really bad depression and just wanna say thank you cause you helped me get perspective and helped me to see that I can do this even being a single female with a doggy myself. I love you so much if I had money I would donate to your cause I really would. I am also recording my journey and gonna try to post myself. You inspire me so much and all I want is for you to succeed thank you 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Hi I’m Michael nice meeting you’ wish I could watch you smile endlessly 😊 you’re beauty
eternal gratitude for making us watch with your eyes...thanks...
Hello Nikki and Camper, great scenery love riding along with you on UA-cam. Camper has really grown up , looks a little chubby, but I know he gets plenty of exercise. You look lovely as usual and I hope you and Camper stay safe. Glad someone was around to tow you out of trouble, what would you have done if no one was around. Does your truck have a winch?
Without a Doubt, one of your BEST videos ever❤️
It is so funny how Camper is so much smarter than Nikki and stays out of that freezing water.
She gotta get in. She's the new Baywatch and that's a straight dude drowning... Not many people know this, but camper is the reincarnate of hasslehoff... He went John Wayne and said "you drowning bud? Yea? Well learn to swim"
Risk adverse
Camper isn't the one getting paid to lay down those thirst traps.
Cold bath is actually healthy for your body & mind. Due to that sweating after the walking n carrying, it should feel pretty good too.
@@wibie4Life ...if you don't get a heart attack...
Fearless Nikki and the cold water plunge!!! Whoooo hooo
So lucky to have people right by you when you got stuck that had a truck and tow strap to pull you out! Good vibes were with you! ❤
SOOOO LUCKY! They were so so so kind and helpful too!!!!
Orrrrr... Nikki is protected by angels because Yeshua loves her
Smart not to bury it to the frame trying to get out.
I thought that truck was a 4 wheel drive with those big tires and high clearance .
I love your bubbly personality and positive attitude
beautiful Redwoods, beautiful ocean!!! I love the relationship you have with your dog Camper.....he's so darn cute and he understands you so well!! great ending hahaha
There aught to be a law against passing laws that dogs aren't allowed.
Hi I’m Michael nice meeting you’ wish I could watch you smile endlessly 😊 you’re beauty @morgan
Saludos desde Colombia 🇨🇴
Que bellos paisajes !❤
I have been loving your videos for some time. My retirement goals, are to travel this great country. Your adventures have helped me to add places to see to my bucket list. I very much appreciate you sharing your travels. Safe travels to you and Camper!
👍👍 Thanks for watching
Let's talk now 🔝🔝.
love seeing how large the trees where and how clear the water was Keep on camping. both take care and as you say ,,,,have a nice day.
Just want to tell you how much I love watching you and camper!!!!! Thank YOU SO MUCH !!!!!,
Cool that Camper will just on the rock while you swim. My dog would see a squirrel or a bird and run off or try to run off.
True love your dog will wait for you if you we're everything to him
@@POPCORN_BRAWL try stopping a terrier chase a rat.
Seriously.
Do you have a winch? Uber useful if you go off road. Loop around a medium sized tree and pull yourself out.
Glad you were able to get out! May want to look into a set of extraction boards as a 'just in case' for next time!
You two have the brightest personality! I enjoy your travels. Thanks!
Thanks for beautiful photos of the majestic redwoods
I live an hour from the Redwoods and it was where we spent a lot of time as a kid, day hiking, camping, road trips...it was our playground growing up. There is no other place on earth like it and it wasn't until I was older that I realized how unique and special it is...I think as a kid I just thought this is what the entire world looked like give or take. It's my favorite place to be still. When the wind isn't blowing, the quiet is amazing. We have some fantastic rivers and ocean views too in this area.
Great video Nikki. You know you weren't really stuck.
Good intentions and hard work paying off! 👏 you should be proud of yourself
Dang, Nikki - you have upped your game on the quality of your videography, sound, script, choreography - everything - way to GO. Great work - and fun for all. Haven't been up there is years - but you make me want to get back asap!
@RealNikkiDelventhal. hang on... stand by...
Excellent.. The undergrowth, vegetation along the Redwood road is spectacular too.. Thanks

Such beautiful scenery! ☺️
Thank you for sharing.
Being from England the redwoods look insane! Thank you for the info that is deffo a place I need to see!
I always pray for you Niki and camper to God to keep you safe 🙏 ❤
Love this, went there this past summer. Was absolutely gorgeous! Have to say though, I was more blown away by the giant Sequoias in Sequoia National Park than the Red Woods. But the location of the Red Woods is perfection to me.
Nikki - I just got a funny comment from someone about your swim in icy water - here was my response, i.e., a different POV:
"I definitely don't relate - I'm the one who took an electric blanket to summer camp when I was a kid, and the cabin only had one light bulb. I had to take an adapter for the bulb socket and an extension cord. When electric blankets came out on the market, my Mother called the woman who ran the department and said, "I want the first one that comes in." It was for me! I still sleep under one!"

That drive in redwoods is incredible!!!!!!
I can’t get over the pristine very clear lake & close by the raging ocean! Excellent adventure thanks Nikki & Camper! 💜🤗

Awesome journey thnks for showing those Gigantic Trees. You are Really awesome.
Get yourself a winch for the front, then you can pull yourself out if you are alone, I won't say anything about 4x4 since others already have. Keep on truckin, you live and learn❤
I love Campers face watching u swim in the icy cold water like "dude hells noooo" 😆 Well done on being rescued too!
Your video brought a big smile to my face. Humboldt and Mendocino are two of the most beautiful places on earth.
😍breakfast looks tastier 😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🌻glad you are enjoying this lifestyle
I have spent a good portion of my life camping in the Red Woods... Patricks Point (Now Sumeg) is always our favorite. Love the whole north coast of California.
Your videos bring me so much joy ❤
Hello Nikki and camper not only the best day of the week but its so good to see you and camper what a beautiful part of the USA you spent in i am sure i saw a 3 -legged camper enjoying peeing up all those wonderful red wood trees bless him stay safe and take care ❤🦮

That tree at 3:50 is the biggest tree I have ever seen. Just Amazing. I want to visit that tree.

Hi I’m Michael nice meeting you’ wish I could watch you smile endlessly 😊 you’re beauty
Absolutely nothing like sleeping to the sound and smells of fresh running water! ❤️
I love the way you talked
You are simply inspiring. Your attitude and happiness you get out of life and put into the world are incredible. Thanks for making these fun video’s! 😊
I love your pop up Camper. It is so luxurious for you after being in the smaller Prius.❤
Awesome video as always Nikki.
I watched the whole video bringing back memories of driving that stretch of Hwy. I traveled that section a couple hundred times. The outdoors are pretty awesome down there. The cities are not to the level of the scenery. Good luck out there!
