I'm a young Republican and social conservative. However, president Obama was a man of dignity and class who appealed to many Americans. I was never an Obama supporter, but I respected the man and rarely doubted his moral character. He has my respect, and I would be honored to shake his hand as an American should I ever meet him in the future.
The polar opposite is true with Trump. While I may agree on more (not all) political issues, I am very embarrassed of his character. I am not proud that he is now the face of the Republican Party.
In 2020 or 2024, the Democrats and Republicans must not make the same mistake. We must both nominate only people we would be proud to support.
I find common ground with President Obama in his action against climate change and the dangers it presents to our world. I hope more in my party open up to bipartisan efforts against the menace.

Yes, there were some things that I didn't agree with, but your push for climate science, healthcare reform, expansion of medicaid, increased funding for Veterans care, starting the opening of relations with Cuba, increased funding for national parks and forests, provided stimulus funding to help expand private sector space travel, helped with financial reform, ushered in about 75 months strait of new job growth, new START treaty to try to help reduce the number of nuclear arms, first President to openly endorse same-sex marriage, opened up the Bush-era restrictions on funding stem-cell research, Paris Climate Agreement, and helped with Joe Biden's push toward expanding cancer research, and many many other positive things that was done during your administration made you a successful President.
And that's not even mentioning all the other positive things you've wanted to do that were vehemently opposed by the Tea Party and Republicans. Such as blocks to common-sense gun laws EVEN THOUGH 90% of Americans and 70% of NRA members supported such measures. And him wanting to close GITMO but being blocked at every turn. There was also a time where he wanted to stop certain tax breaks that companies get when they ship jobs overseas but the GOP blocked that bill. And how many times did they try to repeal the ACA? How about a Political Ad Disclosure bill, that would have made it so that donors to political campaigns have to be transparent, which this was blocked by the GOP for sure. How about all the GOP climate-change deniers that are deep in the pockets of the fossil fuel industries that fought tooth and nail against any type of clean energy initiatives (one jackass brought a snowball into Congress...wtf) I can go on but I won't.
