I tried to use the KYB code for some pants and a range bag and it didn’t work for me. It said KYB not valid. Both items were not on sale. :( I guess I’ll try again tomorrow.
Scott, the reason for the jams is the ammo, a shot gun is not really meant for auto fire gas operating systems, take the Typhoon 12 for example, brand new out of the box I fired multiple rounds at rapid fire with no stoppages or jams, the ammo I was using travels at a velocity of 1410 feet per second, it is important to use high velocity rounds in an auto loading shotgun, especially during the break in process, using lower velocity rounds will result in stoppages such as you experienced
A shotgun capable of jamming 24 times without reloading is quite impressive. I’m not sure if the automatic disassembly feature will catch on, though.

This is what you call, a fully jam-o-matic. I never seen so many jams, so fast before and I am impressed. Keeps you on your toes, anyone can use a gun that works, reloading a gun that jams itself takes a smart person. When our gun falls apart, then we learn re- assembly. Eventually, we even learn how to read the instruction manual, literacy is a beautiful thing. The crappier your shotgun is, the more we learn together !. Scott has learned the ancient thumb maneuver, the ultimate move for when things go badly. I find the best thing to do in a crisis, is not to panic !, just stand tall and be like Scooter, with your thumb up your hole, or multiple holes that life can give us.
While the XRAIL might be a bit unconventional, I appreciate the exploration of this rotating shotgun

I think having the rotating assembly around the shotgun barrel would be better. Use the receiver as the rotation support. Then have a lower support rail maybe hollow carbon fiber rod.
aye, or have it on a central axis inside a shell attached like a traditional single mag tube to the barrel and frame, thing looks like it was only held by the portion near the receiver

This was a bad idea, poorly executed.
Making it rotate automatically is going to be difficult regardless, so it would be better to make that a manual function. But it hardly matters because making a gun that front-heavy is just dumb. Just use a detachable-mag gun and put a drum on it! Drum mags are terrible, but compared to the X-Rail they're models of reliability and practicality.

When that thing fell apart in your hands that was one of the funnest things I have seen in a while. I am just glad it did go boom in a bad way!
I have to say it. At least it failed the safest way possible. We could have had another CATASTROPHIC FAILURE like the RN-50. I'M glad you are ok Scott. I've watched your channel for years, and I don't want to have another gun to try to take your life.
Apparently, it is still a catastrophic failure, but at least it's not RN-50 with bad SLAP rounds catastrophic.

fortunately shotgun rounds aren't super high pressure, not getting nearly the backpressure you get in alot of rifle rounds.

When I saw how much the tube contraption thing was jiggling around in the slo-mo, I just knew that was the reason for it coming apart like it did. If they could have made it much stronger in that one point and not jiggle around as much, and not jam as much if possible, it would be a cool gun to use for fun range days. Definitely seems pretty heavy too
not only is it likely not made of the strongest parts. but it straight up isn't that secure to the weapon. Here we see why practically every tube extension accessory comes with an extra clip on thing to help secure it to the rest of the gun.
My heart goes out to you, Scott. That shotty could have been EPIC if it had held up. Even so, this was a great example of turning lemons into lemonade. Well Done!
In the slow motion of the mostly successful mag dump it looked like that barrel was getting jostled around something fierce. I knew something looked really off about the shock motion

I like the idea of a semiautomatic shotgun with that much magazine, but clearly there needs to be some work done to reinforce certain areas to assist in stress relief when being used
Looking at the slow motion, the engineer in me was like, that’s not going to live long. That magazine tube whipped like crazy!

I think most of saw the stress on the tube, I had the same thought when I saw the shooting in slow motion.
It would've been nice if they could've supported it up front but yeah way too much flex and weight fatigued that little collar connective piece.
The car cannon was impressive! No jams, had a sling, and 100% accurate!
Considering it hit all targets at once, I'm gonna say it was more like 1000% accurate.

Hey Scott, if you like this concept, you should check out the SRM 1216 shotgun! It's an odd little thing that has a rotating magazine tube!
I noticed during the slomoe shots that the lower chambers were shaking rather violently independent of the barrel, I would imagine that may be the source of some of the jams
I agree with your assessment. I would add a circular ball barring guide rail around the barrels near the end of the shroud to sure up that movement. Not sure what its called, but the same rail as that new head and neck strengthening mechanism they use in pro sports.

@@M21-w1y yes I agree that the weight is the issue. I was saying for it to have a chance they should have supported the floating load tubes out further from the feed. I also agree the design was poor but I what rooting for the concept of the auto turning as the tubes empty. and yeah Benelli putting their name on that is a surprise, it looked like it was still in R&D they way it just fell apart.

I just purchased the Standard Manufacturing DP12. Its been an absolute blast so far. I've run roughly 300 round through it within a month and it hasn't missed a beat. 14 round capacity. 16 if 2 are chambered.

@kg-Whatthehelliseventhat It still performs fantastic. I've ran everything from bird shot, to buckshot and slugs without any performance problems. Still feeds and ejects shells as when new.
I think the reason I keep coming back to Kentucky Ballistics compared to some of the other guntubers out there is that Scott very much has a "Kid In A Candy Store" affectation that is simply infectious. He's not trying to be badass or overly analytical about statistics and whatnot, he's just excited to show off his new toys and maybe teach us a bit as well. Great vid (glad you didn't get another neck scar from that shotgun), can't wait for the next.

I actually almost died laughing when those shells started spewing out of the magazine. Eating/drinking anything while watching your episodes is a bad idea.
For those who don’t know, the XRail has been around for quite awhile. Not the most practical or reliable magazine extension option, but it’s not meant for hard use. It’s intended for extreme ”gamer gun” builds for hardcore competitive shooters, who are willing to accept something that’s finicky and requires dialing-in with specific ammo as a trade-off for massive capacity. Reloads on a tube-fed shotgun tend to be a major limiting factor for those competitions.
I'm starting to think the shells' general weight is the main reason why they tend not to work well with box magazines.

At least it was probably part of the inspiration for weird shotguns like the Tavor TS12, which is at least far better built, though IWI has some QC issues on it.

Helluva takedown gun. Takes itself down. No buttons needed, doesn't even ask permission. What a trooper.
The beetle does indeed put the punt gun to shame. Based on my back of the envelope calculations: an 1800lb Beetle is about 12,600,000 grains. Falling from a height of 30ft it should accelerate to approximately 44 fps, for around 54,160 ftlbs of energy on target. Now you'd have to divide by the area of impact to figure out how much each item received, but it's still devastating.
That's why you weld a giant spike to the bottom so all the force is concentrated onto a small area lol

I had an older model Browning once that was very touchy about what brand of shells would feed properly. So, I was going to suggest trying different brands and loads to see if that helped with the jamming problem but I guess it doesn’t really matter now. Every time you have that guy pop up and say “You got jammed”, I can’t help but think about jamming the radar in Spaceballs. Thanks for the chuckles and I can’t wait to see what you destroy next time.

Benelli makes good shotguns. The X-Rail system was an aftermarket add on so you should be able to find parts for both, but I would put the Benelli back into its original single tube configuration. If it’s repairable that is.
It's pretty crazy you can see the tubes trying to index well before they need to.
They index as soon as the previous tube is empty.

My first thought was the reload time was going to be a nightmare, but the fact it jammed so much, was so front heavy and, well, broke, kinda makes me question what their quality assurance team was up to.
Im wanting to know what drugs the design team was on....i mean that much weight and recoil on that thin of a support.....kinda obvious what was going to eventually happen.
This must have been a pet project of someone very senior at Bernelli who REALLY wanted to get a high capacity shotgun to market. I'm sure QA was told to shut their collective pie-hole.

The wobble in the barrel after every shot might have been a foreshadowing 😂😬
You can see in the slow motion, whole assembly is shaking like mad, looks like that is where the jams come from too. You can see where it is going to brake as that is the point of most tension.
The Shotgun may disappoint but Scott never does

When I started watching this I was like: "Yep, that's definitely an overcomplicated gizmo that will definitely jam a lot". What can I say? The result broke my expectations in two!
Now this is going to sound crazy but I really feel like there needs to be like a universal complete overhaul of the shotgun shell as an ammunition when it comes to these automatic shotguns

It’s true that as we get older, the toys just get bigger 😂 (referring to the crane). Glad you came away unscathed from that gun malfunction.
Try the Israeli TS-12. Not only does it have three rotating magazine tubes, but when you rotate from an empty one to a full one while the action is open it will automatically cycle the first round into the chamber without the user needing to do anything.
I love that even when the planned video does not work out Scott originally planned he still manages to make us piss our pants laughin lmao. And also the fact that he still uploads it without declaring it a complete failure. Never change, Scott! God Bless!

Hey man I just wanted to say thanks for posting this even though the gun messed up. A lot of people would just say “Well that’s it, guess this video failed,” and just scrap it but you kept going and made this video awesome anyway. Appreciate it a lot 👍
I am not an expert in ballistics, nor firearm production, but i have never had a shotgun with a free floating magazine tube. It would be easy to guess that the tube not lining up is what's causing at least a portion of the Jams, Perhaps if they had a stabilizing ring at the front (perhaps a fixed ring with an interior part that spins with the barrel), then it would at least keep the magazine stable. but i don't ultimately know how much better it'd be, as it seems to spin of it's own accord sometimes. perhaps if the tube also locked in until empty, then sprung to the next, but then it'd have the same failings as a regular Drum Magazine. (although, that's pretty much what it's trying to emulate from where im sitting.)
Aside from the, likely unintended, ability to store the gun in smaller places than it's overall length, I'm glad to know that we're still making weird guns for the modern era. Thanks for playing with it Kentucky Ballistics.

I was really hoping it would work, it's a wonderful concept but damn! The thing self destructed like it was California compliant, what a shame.
Been a M2 owner for years, I’ve learned the more weight you add to it, the more likely you run into cycling problems. You can maybe do a shotshell card and small light, that’s it.
I think the magazine springs were made light to ease loading but need to be stiffer to get feeding correct!
Love your channel! We just purchased our first gun, my wife and I, and we got a Tokarev TX3, as it fit our budget. Even though it's on the cheaper end of shotguns, it really seems to pull its weight and even stand up to some higher end shotguns. Would love to see your take on these Turkish shotguns rising in the market! That, plus you can put a bayonet on it... on a shotgun. I mean... c'mon! That's freakin' awesome!

The Benelli M2 is a fantastic shotgun. The fiddly-do magazine “x-rail” is the problem.

I’m really impressed with the drop test results. Front window intact rear driver side the same, the mono body really didn’t seem to flex much. Crazy tough bug!

The ammo Tube section was wobbling a good bit during those slowmos.
Wouldn’t be surprised if that caused a stress fracture to form where it broke, especially considering the weight.

You'd think they would have reinforced that section considering it's a point of failure. Maybe that's why they stopped manufacturing this model.

I would think a simple bayonet lug like clamp connecting the muzzle and the front of the rotating mag tubes would work.

Given how easily the bolt was pulled to the rear and How sluggishly it chambered when released from the rear most position, I have a feeling it may have been timed for lighter rounds.
even if that's true, if you're making a semi auto shotgun with what essentially amounts to a drum mag replacement, and you can't handle 00 Buck what's the point?

A few years ago when this came out it was far and in between that it was flawless. I would love if it worked with Mini Shells.
It almost seemed like the shotgun was jamming more than the tube system, but considering how I've heard of the X-rail having jamming issues maybe not.
I suspect it has to do with how much the thing was flexing around. They should add a thing to hold it to the barrel to add stability and prevent it from jiggling all over the place.

I want to see the punt gun vs the same table set up, stagger then appropriately to catch most of the spread at a given distance. Im sure some heavy shot would do a great deal of damage!
The only thing that would have made this video even better (and funnier) was if "Scooter" appeared on scene, when Scott raised the beetle up those 30 feet, and said, "Uh, what ya doing there Scott?" Otherwise, a well-done video. Thanks, Scott and team.
The Xrail would be neat if it was worked on and actually worked as intended, although 4 loaded tubes may be too much weight, maybe with 3 tubes and some engineering and beefing up, it could work.
I would say 3, 4 round tubes would be better, it would move the COM towards the center of the shotgun and still have more capacity than a normal tube fed shotgun. Another idea would be a bullpup version where the mass is much more centered towards the rear of the shotgun or changing the cycling method to be manual as the automatic rotation was faulty. For example use a pump action to rotate it by using a device on an axial screw have the screw rotate x degrees when pumped where x is the number of degrees from one tube to the other. Those are the ideas I had in my head by the end of this video
