I really wanna get into the French tree but it looks like such a schlep and their tanks I actually wanna play only start later in the tree, like the post war tanks with the occasional exception of things like the ARL-44. Same for the air tree
France has the worst tier 1 of any nation by far. So many low caliber guns that fire APCR. The first thing of value is the sherman witg the sa50. Which is basically just a firefly with depression. The ARL-44s are nice bit their turret is so huge and only has 100mm of armor that if someone has fought it before its trivial for them to kill. Then you get to all their autolaoder armed tanks. Which are just way over BRed for what they are. Since they all have solid shot youll usually need to take multiple shots to kill from the side. Youd be better of if you had APHE and a 8s reload vs solid shot with a 5s. And once the auto loaxercmagazine is empty you have to wait 9 years to refill it. All this while having overly high repair costs.
7.3 and above French autoloading tanks are really good, at least to me, the 100mm is pretty forgiving even if it's not APHE and the 120mm solid shot AP just destroys that you hardly need APHE when you can center mass every squishy thing at 7.0+.
frances 3.0 is pretty good, the arl acl and shermans are must use for its 3.0, 5.0 is decent, best tank youll have is the sa50, the arl 44 (despite being classified as a td in game, it is a heavy tank) great frontal and side armour when angled but its turret head is its downfall, but both have really good solid shot, 1951 ebr is a no go btw, stock 91 mm pen (sherman cannon and shells) yet at 5.0?? 6.0 is where it gets good, you get the amx 13 and m4, both really good tanks w/ autoloaders but the repair cost on the amx 13 makes it unviable, now, 7.0 france is amazing, you have the lorraine, foch, char, aml 90, amx 13 90, amx 30, amx 50 and so on.. the 50 and lorraine are basically the same but 50 goes 9 kmh slower (60 kmh for lorraines top speed) and has more armour that is useless, 4 second autoloaders and the refilling of the autoloader is decently fast, char has good aphe (6.7 sec reload, 210mm, m82 shot) but theyre a little behind on tech especially when up tiered but theyre good tanks, but always remember, for 7.0 france, you flank and ambush since of your speed, lack of armour and autoloader
@@robertharris6092 actually, no, the B1 bis and the arl 44 with the 75 mm are 2 early tier tanks that are very nice, and the somewhat new lorraine 37 is fun. Also all the french AP's have very good penetration and damage, from the side and from the front you can one shot almost all tanks
wait a min, i need to know something since im new to WT, how did he know where the enemy is coming from, i mean he just knew where the tanks were at....how? can someone teach me plaese? fro example from 2:10 - 2:40 how did he know the tank was there?
Minimap awareness. He saw enemy activity/teammates dying there. Also, the smoke was a big giveaway. At other points, like at 1:15, he could hear enemy engine sounds and locate them that way.
@@Fred-bw3no Good point but it still doesnt make sense, because the smoke screen at 2:10 could also mean that the enemy has gotten away while leaving the smoke screen there, but the player waited tho.
@@Dharshanth.k but it could also mean the player was hiding in it, I also always wait until the smoke screen disseapears because you never know if there still is an enemy. also, the magach 2 that got killed couldnt have dropped the smoke screen so 1+1=2, there still was another guy that could have set the smoke screen. this guy is just a great player withgood map awareness, positioning etc.
@@Dharshanth.k Waiting there is a logical play. Normally, you should wait for a smokescreen to clear out to find any enemy activities. Considering that he saw an enemy dying, the cap still belonging to the enemy, he made a good play.
I don't understand why everybody is complaining about the french tree. Except tier 1 it's great! You just gotta know which tanks to play and how to play them. For example: I completely left out the normal Shermans since they're really bad but for example the SA50 sherman is like a firefly and really good... you have to pick out the good ones and then have a good tactic - should be understandable for everyone that you can't brawl with a sherman, it just makes 0 sense
Repair costs used to be awful for the French, and that was the biggest drawback for me. I had to grind SL in the main nations to subsidize my losses playing the French. (The Egyptian Sherman is a greater earner, though!)
Question, I’ve been trying to level up France and have kinda hit a roadblock. At around br5 all I have to level up are Sherman’s while everyone else is running around in tigers and m41, do you have any advice on how to deal with them or progress?
You had a Jumbo, a SA-50 which is basically a Sherman Firefly on crack. And you struggle with Tiger and M41? That's a big skills issue problem, can't help with that. You can try to play the ARL-44 and angle your armor then.

My issue tends to be that when i am in the ARL-44 i just get bombed from the air, its slow, and i can't seem to get anywhere without being spotted. The SA-50 is great, but i tend to just get tracked all the time then shot to shit. Probably a skill thing like you said, but again, i'm new to the game.
When I was grinding France, I usually take the Jumbo out first so I can duel with the heavy German and sometimes Russian tanks. Once your Jumbo gets destroyed take the SA-50 out as the enemy would usually just spawn in their less armored tanks. Hope this helps.
