    This is normal for problematic takes to come from Mrs. Owens but this does not make them okay nor less important to counter. what are your thoughts on the confederate flag?

    Do me a big favor and dont apologize for how long the videos are. I watch from beginning to end. Beautiful tips on counterarguments for confederate flag supporters. Merry Christmas!

      i appreciate that @DaraelDraconis i hadnt thought about that before but its true. i dont tend to do very well analytically speaking when it comes to viewer retention so its always been something ive triesd to be considerate of and sometimes i fail to fully communicate the way i want to for the sake of saving people times so they dotn feel discouraged from watching a long video.

      I agree @Mike LA i try not to let the idea of a video being too long get to me but unfortunately the way youtube is set up, the longer the video, the lower the viewer numbers and retention. the attention span of the average viewer has continued to go down so its important for me to try my best to be as concise as possible but i hope to get over this and just focus on the message i want to get across.

      it defintely did, the confededaracy was so short lived but its damaging impact has lived on for longer that the nazi movement was able to. germany takes its hiostory around the holocaust was more serious than America takes slavery unfortunately.

    At that time, iirc there were slaves that could be rented so many times if a poor farmer could and did temporarily rent slaves to do certain tasks

    • @geezdayday2901
      @geezdayday2901  Рік тому

      there were definitely instances of less wealthy and middle-class people owning or as you say renting at least one slave for sure. the interesting thing here is that most of the arguments I've seen here are not really commenting on that. they are mainly trying to suggest that all southerners didn't agree with slavery which was never an argument lol this is a very interesting comment section for sure.

    Anyone should be able to wave any flag on their property (vehicles and home) only places like schools and other public places should only have their country and state flags flown and shown.

    • @geezdayday2901
      @geezdayday2901  Рік тому +1

      well, I'm not exactly arguing that they shouldn't be able to wave whatever flag they desire on their property. my argument here is the hypocrisy of being angry with gay pride and BLM flags and then supporting the confederate flag. And again flying the flag is something I'm not arguing should be illegal and I never implied that in my video. but I do believe that if you fly a flag that objectively stands for a society that wanted to uphold the institution of slavery then you have to be willing to deal with the social ramifications of that. People will view you as racist because of the symbols you honor. just because someone says they see everyone equal does not mean they aren't waving a flag that considers everyone unequal. if someone told you they believe everyone was equal while waving a nazi flag, would you believe them?

    Do you consider the flag a racist symbol or as a flag of southern pride. It wasn't just about slavery from what I've been taught and most people I know that have had this flag treated and saw every color equal.

    • @geezdayday2901
      @geezdayday2901  Рік тому +3

      good question. i beleive that many people genuinely view the flag as a symbol of southern pride but I also know that the objective meaning of the flag stood for a confederacy that wanted to keep my ancestors enslaved and believed I was 3/5ths of a human being. the civil war was primarily fought over the institution of slavery. the south considered the north tyrannical because of their attempt to take away the number 1 economic source from the south. the entire southern economy flourished off the back of free slave labour and without it would effectively collapse. this is the language used by people to try and say that the war was fought over states rights and things like that. our public education system failed miserably by trying to teach us a watered down and whitewashed version of this history. the innescapable truth is that the war was fought over slavery and the south was comprised of citizens that saw people of color as subhuman as even many northerners did.

      throughout history that flag was and has been used by racist groups. fun fact in europe where the nazi flag is banned they sometimes fly this one.

      I would strongly advise you to look into what people _at the time,_ rather than afterwards, wrote about it. They were very clear that it was _primarily_ about preserving slavery, right up until around the end of the war, when there was an attempt to retroactively justify secession as being about other things. To take just one example, the only difference between the US and Confederate constitutions was an article permanently enshrining slavery being added to the latter - surely this indicates that at the political level this must have been considered a more significant factor than any other.

    I feel like in the current times you need to considerate of people feelings and how they view them because again nothing is wrong with a flag but you it’s the representation of the flag and how it is viewed in the world. The flag itself is just cloth lol but it’s the views people put on the flag like those who wave it and what it represents with those people. Then the flag becomes an issue. One on point she is right with ppl should be able to wave that flag but then again people views on the representation placed on the same flag becomes something that can cause people harm in the form in many ways mostly experience that came from either seeing the flag or encounter with a person representing said flag that can deal trauma. So again it comes to the people you are around and it’s in a very grey area that is hard to justify this flag being out in the open and it is a personal opinion. I’m talking about the confederate flag btw. Other flags that tie suppression and harm or have ties with people losing life is a no for me. I understand that history but it should be in a museum or in history books to teach about things tie to it so it is not repeated.

    • @geezdayday2901

      See I both agree and disagree. I don't want to say that it should be illegal to fly the Confederate flag. but I do feel like people who fly the flag should know that they will be subject to scrutiny from the public because their interpretation of what the flag means go against the historical implications and meaning of the flag. this flag is directly tied to the oppression, suppression, and loss of life so I feel like it should fit your category of harmful. I think that the confederate flag is only appropriate in a museum. I think that trying to defend waving the flag outside of first amendment rights is problematic for what it objectively stands for. you can say it's legal to wave the flag but that doesn't make it socially okay or socially acceptable. that flag historically is a racist symbol and is often used to embolden racist ideologies in America.
