    TY. Im 55 a d grew up playing with grandma's old manual things stored in garage as she too came to tech with us. But now that she's gone - I feel very compelled to use a few manual things in my kitchen- to keep Granny's Angel in my Home! ❤😊 ty for remind me how to use some old things still made in newer materials now. As a human in preservation of my culture I chose to learn and pass on fine arts and manual labors and hobbies. It's just good to know how to live off the earth as close to as is as possible!!

    You should definitely not pour boiling water on your coffee grounds..the water should be just lower than boiling as boiled water is too hot and causes a bitter taste from your coffee

      I just do 2 heaping teaspoons for one cup of coffee sometimes 3 but pour a little water on it to get the ground wet for 30 seconds then pour the water and cover it. I bloom my coffee. Also make sure its not to fine. Use coarsely ground coffee and make sure the water isn't super boiled. Just right before it starts to boil

    The only way to make coffee, in my opinion. However, for best results, don't bring the water to a full boil. Pour the water just before it reaches the boiling point. Boiling water will actually burn your beans. :-)

  • @jalspaugh3
    @jalspaugh3 Рік тому +4

    There is some incorrect offhand information in this video! Nothing that is a huge deal, but
    1) "You want coarser grounds to release the good stuff." Actually, a finer grind has more surface area, which is what would release the good stuff. The reason for a coarse grind is actually for a slower extraction since it is an immersion method (all of the coffee is submerged and touching the water at the same time -- opposed to a drip style, which has less water contact at any given second).
    2) "Darker roasts, because they are drier and more brittle, will extract faster" Darker roasts extract faster because they are more soluable/porous, because they have been chemically broken down during the roasting process more than light roasts

    • @fumble_brewski5410
      @fumble_brewski5410 Рік тому +2

      It all depends on how you define a "cup." In a drip coffee maker 1 cup usually means 5 ounces of water before the brewing cycle. So if you have a 5-cup drip coffee maker, then the total water capacity would be 25 ounces. However, the French press shown here is 12 ounces (or 3 cups) in capacity. So here 1 cup would be only 4 ounces. Cheers. ☕

    Thank you! I’ve been using one for YEARS and my coffee always sucks and there’s grounds floating all over.. 🤦‍♂️
    This explained to grind my own, I’ve been buying the super fine pre-ground stuff. I never let it steep, I’d just pour boiling water in and plunge down quickly right after. Then to make it even worse, I’d pour it way quick.
    Just made a cup like how you explained here and this is great! Still some grounds but that’s because I bought the pre ground next time I’ll grind my own and keep it coarse.
    And thank you for not having ads baked in or making it a video of a face taking. I learn best by seeing the actions done. Ty x5! 🎉

    I’m not arguing with anything said in this video, it’s a fine first go, but another guy I watch on UA-cam said you pour the (not boiling) water on top of the coarse grounds, leave it about five minutes with lid off, (not sure why lid off), then scoop the sediment and foam off the top, place the lid back on, but don’t push the filter down into the coffee. Leave it just above. Carefully pour the coffee out. By not exciting any of the sediment in the bottom of the cafetière, you reduce the bitterness. Some of the best coffee I’ve made.

    Instead of using an old fashioned kettle, I'd use an electric kettle, even though they're not very common here in America. Edit: if you're poor, and you can't afford a coffee grinder, if you have a food processor lying around, that'll work too.

    Why are so many people complementing this video for being straight to the point when half of the video is an ad for a specific coffee bean grinder and a specific french press? Was actually so frustrating to watch. JUST GET TO THE DAMN POINT.

    Then spend 30 minutes cleaning up. Getting grinds out of the wire mesh is especially fun.

      Take it apart and wash each piece under your sink using hot water then re assemble the press ,takes about a minute or less

      A little bit of resistance is normal. You are pushing the plunger through water, after all. But it should by no means take a notable amount of force. It should be easy.

    3 table spoons seems too little for a Whole Press of Water,really it's too Weak,I would Suggest you add at least 7 even 10 scoops

    That's so coarse, though. You're probably losing out on some flavour. Could definitely go somewhat finer.
