If you or your loved one lost the ability to read after a stroke, how much were you able to regain? What activities worked best for you?
I got expressive aphasia from TBI, however, I was misdiagnosed for 46 years. I'm exceptional well--educated. I just find out that I have agrammatism.
I suffered a stroke 5,5 years ago.. caused by a stab wound in my face.. I could not read amonst other thing.. and tho I sometimes still screw up.. with lots of practice.. you can relearn how to read. If anything.. it is easier the 2nd time.. because the "output" is still there (I could still write) but the "input" is broken (I could not read what I had written) Thank you for making this video... losing your ability to speak, understand words, or reading is common amongst stroke victems.. but not much information or help is available.. or so it seems...
Yes, often people just focus on the loss of mobility. But losing the ability to communicate, in my opinion, is much, much worse. Thanks for commenting, and for watching.
I am working on my recovery with the assistance of an experienced speech therapist. I found this UA-cam very helpful. I hope there are more similar UA-cam videos available in the future. BTW, my stroke occurred 8.5 years ago and I am experienced significant improvements. Thank you!

Just wanted to add something to this that was significant to me. After my stroke I had lost my prosody, "the vocal patterns of stress and intonation". I have been working to recover my pre-stroke prosody and it seems to making a more global improvement. I am working on a daily basis with some classic poems ('If' and 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening') which I enjoyed when I was younger. I have marked these two poems to emphasize syllables and appropriate pauses. It is hard work but the results are significant. Don't discount prosody as a part of a comprehensive speech therapy program.
I absolutely agree! And it's good to hear from someone that has been through it. Prosody is a very important skill in speech and usually overlooked...until it is a problem. Thank you so much for sharing.

Have you tried the text-to-voice feature? Maybe if the text were read aloud to you, you might understand it better.
