Sal is a personal trainer and co-founder of Mind Pump Media, as well as co-host of Mind Pump, an online radio show/podcast dedicated to providing truthful fitness and health information. Sal is dedicated to prioritizing health over appearance and aims to shift the direction of the fitness industry from aesthetic- and insecurity-based to one based in self-love and self-care. Today, we sit down for a conversation about how to approach your health in a better way: from prioritizing self-love and acceptance, ridding yourself of fad diets, and getting granular about what your body needs. We dive into protein intake, muscle building, and steps you can take to change your life for the better.

    Really wish she didn’t interrupt Sal as much - I get it’s a conversation, but I find I get more out of interviews when the host simply lets the guest speak, zero interruptions. Don’t feel the need to fill the silence or constantly interject - that’s not why we’re here. We’re here to hear what THEY have to say. Ask your questions, then LISTEN.

    Favorite take away from the Him and her podcast is that you can succeed with good sleep, good diet (lots of protein) and commitment to two days a week of strength training 🥰 my name is Susan Cardillo 55 year old menopausal women trying to get in shape. Trying to look better and feel better without looking at the scale which is super hard from my generation.

      I love the thought of a couple times a week in the gym and that sleep and nutrition are all needed to gain muscle and get lean. I had not heard of the mouth taping before. And I like his last statement, getting familiar with body pain. I love that Sal is so humbling and cares about people. Wish I could train with you too. I just started working out in the gym in January. I am 63 and I have gained some muscle and lost over 20 pounds. Love listening to these conversations. I am loving this so much that I am going to put a gym in my basement. I would really like a conversation “how to set up a home gym”. Thank u.

    Sal taught me how to loae weight the right way that is substantiable. I prioritize protein and strength training times 5 a week with daily 30 min walk. I added 100 calories a week from 2000 to 2800 calories a day. I build muscle and increased my metabolism then cut 500 calories to lose 1 pound a week. I feel amazing.

    I can’t wait to give this a go. Juggling a full time job, a family, volunteer events and everything else made being in the gym for two hours impossible and now I feel like I have the time. Thank you for giving me permission to do all of the things I love and not have to make my life revolve around the gym!

    Recently I have come across Sal two months or so ago and I love his UA-cam!! I saw him on your channel as a guest and I just LOVE him// it was a must watch. He is so real when he talks. He gives facts and talks about real shit. I am forever going to be his follower.
    I actually sent this podcast to a friend because we train at one of these crazy hiit cardio / weight lifting gym and we lift 5-6 days a week. When he says on this podcast that you can lift full body two times a week and still get the same results. That just blew my mind! I lift heavy the 5-6 days a week and my body feels spent. I am going to try to do what he says and lift the 2 times a week heavy full body and then spend the other days in the gym doing the mobility and yoga etc.
    I have small kids too so some days I feel like I cannot give it my all ( to my kids and husband) bc my body is exhausted. I am going to try this method and report back! Thank you for being so amazing! And those biceps I agree with Lauren! 🤩 would love to try his program!

    I have listened to their podcast for a long time and they have completely changed the way I view working out. I started string training a year and a half ago and it's changed my body more than anything else I've ever done. I did the map starter but I would love to win the bundle as well so that I can continue my training. The biggest thing I got away from this episode is just how impactful strength training can be and how much as women we have been conditioned to think that cardio is the only answer

    Ok, if I am following Lauren and mindpumpmedia, where am I supposed to be putting my comment? I'm sorry, I listened to that part several times and got a little lost. I am trying out the Starter program starting tomorrow, I have a lot of health issues, one requiring steroids, then had cancer that led to an early complete hysterectomy, was thrown into menopause, and not only did it make other health problems worse, but I'm going thru rapid bone and muscle loss. I've been given clearance to raise my steroids a bit to have the energy to build back and from my surgeon as well ( spine and neck issues and surgeries, no-one mentions that part of cancer or menopause), I've only ever done follow along workouts and I'm a litt!e terrified at this new format ( for me, paper and demo), but I am hoping it will teach me good form, mobility, and I can lift at my own speed so hopefully not stress the body too much. Dr is psyched for me to experiment with it tho. I loved the interview and have been interested in his advice on so many things including order of his programs. That's probably not supposed to be my takeaway, but it excites me and I really need to get excited about something now. Blessings!!

    Can’t disagree obviously about SLEEP, DIET and EXERCISE as it relates to LONGEVITY! But I don’t hear much discussion around annual physicals especially as we get into our 50’s… COLONOSCOPY, PSA, Mammograms, etc etc! I know a # of people who we would consider “healthy” but died of colon cancer! Let’s remind people of our annual physicals.

    He's bringing up the analogy of the skin adapting to sun rays often, but afaik dermatologists will tell you that UV rays are always harmful to your skin health no matter if you get sunburnt or not. So, if your skin tans it was already too much.

    • @blikewat3r
      @blikewat3r 15 днів тому

      There is esthetics and there is health. Look at the studies that show that melanoma may NOT be caused by the sun. If you BURN you are probably damaging your skin. If you are getting sun kissed, you are naturally absorbing vit D and adapting. We do not want to burn the skin but for the sake of understanding the complexity of this topic/“damage” in moderation, what if we swap damage with creating stimulus? You “damage” muscles during workouts which stimulates them to repair and grow. Too much, and you injure yourself. When you use a derma roller, you damage the skin and this creates a stimulus that builds collagen. Too much and you scar yourself. Similar concept…when it comes to damage/stimulus, moderation is important and it will be dependent on the individual. We are not trying to create too much damage with the skin that may contribute to a negative stimulus (cancer) but a small amount that leads to adaptation. The body is a complex system and losing the forest for the trees is not beneficial, which specialized fields of study often do (sometimes to the detriment of health).

    58:53 - I tried nasal only breathing today during my 30 min of 15% max incline treadmill walking (not holding on), and it was WAY harder than I was expecting.
    Trying to regulate your breathing with an elevated HR through your nose only takes focus and getting used to. There were swings where I was able to slow my breathing down and feel in ctrl. But then there were other moments where only using my nose was a challenge.
    During those periods, it felt like the speed jumped up considerably higher, and I was suddenly a lot more winded than usual. It made for a strange form of progressive overload. 😂
