That looks almost identical to the one I had. A nine-horse dry sump J.A. Prestwich engine, G20 with three forward gears and one reverse on mine. The cast iron wheels on mine were solid without openings. Can you tell what year yours was manufactured? The ID plate on mine was missing. I would really like to know if you have any idea.
Hi, what an amazing machine.😎 My neighbor just bought an old rotvator. It’s a plate on it that says Traktorkompaniet AB Some old Swedish company, but it is an old Howard Gem and I think it’s an series 2 with a BJ engine. I have a question that maybe is a little strange. What type of fuel to use for this engine? Yes I know it’s a 4 stroke gasoline engine. But back in the day the gasoline wasn’t unleaded, and modern garden machines mostly runs on alkylate gasoline. But what to use for this old machine. Can it run on unleaded gasoline or alkylate gasoline or should we use unleaded gasoline with som type of additive? What do you use for your old machines? All the best From Sweden
Thank you. Very Informative. Just bought a 1948, series 2 with 600cc BJ engine. It is not running yet. I take it then mine also does not have a reverse gear? I Have just bought an as new Wipac magneto (£245) as original seems a duffer. So hopefully when I fit this after sorting out the mystery, as of yet, of the timing; I am hoping it'll run and do the job I bought it for.
I think I have put up a video of timing a BJ engine. I am not sure if yours has reverse or not. I guess it may have been an option? If it doesn't have reverse it can be very tricky to manoeuvre the tiller in a tight space. Good luck, post a video of your progress!
hi im in real need of help please I have a Howard gem jap looks same carb as yours but mines a nightmare too start and only runs on ticker for like few mins then wont start again I believe carbs not setup correctly can you help thanks
@@bootsowen basicly i believe all carb screws have been fiddled with so no idea where to start , ive made all new copper lines up and ultra sonic cleaned carb , so start a fresh im wanting too show my old man i can get it goin 😬
I think these are a straight through carb, don't they just have one screw on the bottom? I would screw it in and then back one turn to begin. Have you looked for a manual online?
it turns ok as long as you have plenty of space, if you get caught in a tight spot though you are stuck alright! I have one of the gems with the iron wheels and reverse as well. It is a big lug of a machine, I made a video of it here, ua-cam.com/video/5ajXQHsgOoA/v-deo.html. thanks for the comment! Owen

No idea and it is a few years since I had this one. Haven’t seen solid wheels.

nope
Hi where can I get a new brand carburetor and a magneto to buy.
You can’t
Hello. I have a mini tractor of this model. but the piston is broken. you can help me saying where can I buy parts sobrelalentes? thank you very much!
no idea, try googling "howard rotovator spares" usually easier to buy another broken machine.
I've never seen a Gem without a reverse gear or the standard four-way shift lever. That's weird.
It’s an older one.
@@bootsowen any idea of the age of that one?
Why do you not stop the engine with the stop button ???
The effect is the same.
But pointless no ?
it was 3+years ago , I suspect that that engine didn't have one, did you see one on it?
There are two on the sides of the mag,the ones that were pressed and mentioned by yourself ?at around 1-22 into the vid lol
lol
Merhaba bana gem seri 2 geri vites bağlantıları ve foto veya video atarmisin teşekkür ederim
