    Interesting fact about Australia:
    We don't cook 'shrimp' on a barby. We call them 'prawns' and having been to a thousand barbecues in my lifetime, I've never once seen anyone cook them. (Sausages and steak, that's where its at!).

    Kookaburras are very intelligent birds. I have a group of four to six visit almost every day, with one or two of them landing on my porch, and they'll let me pat them. They come at the same time whenever they visit, and hang around to see if I'll feed them (I avoid it for the most part, I don't want them dependant).
    But they're very sweet and very smart, and aren't aggressive at all.

    • @KidsWithGuns1992
      @KidsWithGuns1992 8 років тому +4

      Janet Ward Well yes, in this case.

    • @bukueOner
      @bukueOner 8 років тому +2

      I have two that land on my window everyday and I always feed them coz why the fuck not. You don't see them around urban areas much because they get driven away by magpies n shit so I think it's fine to give 'em hand.

    • @KidsWithGuns1992
      @KidsWithGuns1992 8 років тому +1

      bukueOner Oh yeah a little bit here and there, no problemo aye, I just avoid feeding them every day cause otherwise they'll get too domesticated. But I live out in a heavily forested area so also if some come to visit, could end up having twenty or thirty rock up one day.

    • @bukueOner
      @bukueOner 8 років тому +2

      KidsWithGuns1992 They wont become domesticated just by feeding them. That's a refining process that takes many generations to work. They're also a low birth rate species that are very territorial, so I doubt you'll get whole groups coming to your place at once unlike magpies or butcherbirds which will swarm your place if you're not careful.

    • @Howhowhowdy
      @Howhowhowdy 8 років тому

      You are such a wise and intelligent person thank you for thinking about what's best for the birds

  • @KidsWithGuns1992
    @KidsWithGuns1992 8 років тому +8

    Also kookaburras laugh all day long, they do do it before going to bed and early just after they wake up, but they laugh constantly throughout the day intermittently. Its a territorial thing.

    I've never seen, or even heard of, a Kookaburra stealing anything from a BBQ. Let along a shrimp -- LoL (Paul Hogan's ad made an everlasting impact it seems). The previous video I saw, of a Kookaburra in a San Diego Zoo, said the same thing about them nicking food off the BBQ. Mystified.

    • @ellystripes
      @ellystripes 9 років тому +2

      ***** We have a family of 9 Kookas living around our property and I have witnessed them diving to steal the odd snag off the hotplate many times. I have also seen them pick up full-sized brown snakes and carry them high up before dropping them for the kill. They are generally very friendly to humans and often sit on the hills hoist and go for a ride while we hang the washing out. Amazing birds.

    • @lilacDaisy111
      @lilacDaisy111 9 років тому +1

      ellystripes Thanks for sharing! Yours are indeed sneaky kookas! Doe you leave the barbie unattended? Someone's always fiddlings with our BBQ when things are cooking, so perhaps we don't give the kookas a chance to snatch anything. I really thought this video was making that up. Ha! I've seen them with the snakes, too, and I love their spritely call. My great gran apparently used to yell back at them, "Don't laugh at me, *I'm* not pregnant!" ;-)

    • @ellystripes
      @ellystripes 9 років тому

      *****
      Yes usually someone is standing fairly close! Years ago we had one attempt to steal meat off the table when we were eating on the deck, but he slightly overshot it and smacked into a salad bowl instead. They are not remotely afraid of us haha.

      Australian here. That bird was fine. Kookaburras are pretty chill around people. They will fly right up to a massive family BBQ, sit in the nearest tree and shout at everyone. If you meant the weird vibrating thing he was doing while they were making that weird noise, they were trying to trigger him into making some noise, and they nearly managed it, because he was trembling with the urge to do his call, but clearly he was feeling very shy about doing a territory call in front of a bunch of strangers in a strange place.
      As for the poop, I call deliberate shenanigans. Kookaburras are known assholes.

    That bird is petrified. And where are her tail feathers? Kookaburrahs used to be common around where I live, but they keep knocking down trees and putting up houses. Now, I have to drive over an hour west to hear a Kookie. My Nephew freaked out the first time he heard one and he was 10. We used to have a song about them when I was a kid but, progress I guess.

      I was just stating my opinion. The humor he is using is very racist (towards Australians) and he is using many stereotypes that I don't appreciate. Your comment was very rude and it isn't kind to insult people for saying something was "rude".

      Only when threatened/cornered. Otherwise, they try to get away, or 'play possum'. Like he said about the teeth...50 of them, all very pointy and sharp. As you can see by my pic, I know a thing or two about them. And no, he didn't bite me when I dressed him up for Santa Claus.

    • @shaunrobson4278
      @shaunrobson4278 8 років тому +7

      Actually, it's a helluva lot worse than patronising !!!
      Joey Wildlife may not have realised it, but "Boy" is what white slave owners used to call their black slaves.
      (something similar happened to Muhammad Ali)
      No wonder Jimmy shut it down so quickly, and I guess it was too tricky to edit out of the broadcast.

    • @carlosslim7437
      @carlosslim7437 7 років тому +7

      Haha pc generation much, he didnt use it maliciously it was used as a term for friendship like when he call's tucker his boy. The musicians reciprocated the gesture by nodding and raising there hand, it is the same as saying mate, homey, bud or bro. Just another pathetic vain attempt at adding more word's to the racist slang list. Boy is not a racial slang
