- Today I sit down and watch one of the original vintage Bellanca Viking promotional reels. It's amazing how the Viking has stood the test of time--these guys knew what they were doing. I love my Super Viking! Even if my model didn't come equipped with a "personal telephone." 😂

Bellanca Super Viking was manufactured at the Bellanca Aircraft Factory in Alexandria Minnesota.
My mother worked in the upholstery department and did the entire interior of the airplane including seats in crushed velvet.
I grew up in Benson - Morris area, 45 mins away from Alex. Saw a lot of these planes. Awesome your mother was involved! 👍
I just bought 4034B shown in this video! Love it!
Awesome! Happy flying!
The “Viking” is the sports car of the skys!!! Fact. I love them.
💯
"Nothing flies like a Bellanca!"
Back in the 60's I fell in love with the looks of the Balanca Viking but never had the opportunity to fly nor ride in one. Thanks to you for sharing these Viking videos. Next trip to Powell, I'll drop by the airport in hopes of meeting you.
You need to come to Florida to meet me now. I moved to Saint Augustine in July.
I became an A&P 30Years ago because mechanic because my best friend owned a 69 Viking.
There are only two super vikings here in brazil, i own one of them. Out of my piper saratoga and steen skybolt the viking is my favorite
Of course it is! 😉
That was AWESOME!!!
Thanks guys!
That was cool!! Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
B-Lank-a is an incorrect Americanized pronunciation. The promo narrator excepted, when I sold Bellanca's and visited the factory in the late 70's, they said B-lawn-ka. The for real granddaughter of Guiseppe Bellanca (Nona) who I went to high school with was B-lawn-ka. Even UA-cam confirms the correct pronunciation of this Italian name, ua-cam.com/video/uhCcuvvp6fM/v-deo.html. I loved my Turbo Viking and am just happy this UA-camr is promoting the finest flying 4 seat airplane ever made, even if Americans can't seem to pronounce the name properly.
Good to know. I started out pronouncing it right but was told that was incorrect. I will revert to my original pronunciation.
Good luck getting Minnesotans to pronounce it correctly lol
We need to get Shane to sit down with you and tell the story of wiping out three deer right at rotation with his Super Viking. Another great video bud. 🤙🏼
YES!
@@wyflyguy114 I'm flying with him later this week. I'll ask if he's up for it.
I watch this promo video several times a year. The first truly composite aircraft made if you think about it. I would love to see Mike Patey get involved with the purchase of the company, do some needed upgrades on key areas such as gear doors, carbon fiber in places etc. Great job on this post.
Thanks! It would be awesome to have someone bring this plane into the 21st century!
That’s the video that peaked my interest in a super Viking.
They are great planes and so incredibly underrated.
I’ve owned 3 of them,,,, if you haven’t flown one your missing an amazing flight. N14705, N14690, N4134B
I’m looking at purchasing a super Viking but living in Arizona I’m concerned about the plane being parked outdoors? I’m told it should be hangared because of the wood wings. Obviously I’m having a hard time finding a hangar. Anyone have thoughts feedback on m concern?
I’m not a pilot, but I’m a bit familiar with these aircraft. I worked as an AP in Alexandria MN where these were manufactured and I still know some of the few factory workers that are still around. I had my hands in a few of them helping out with repairs here and there. Weber aero repair is where you go if you want one of these checked out. There are always several of them on the hangar floor at any given time and those guys can do an entire factory rebuild on them. A beautiful aircraft with a devoted following. I’m not i the market to buy, but if I was, it’s a no brainer to me.
Alexandria aircraft was recently purchased by a group out of Oklahoma and he’s getting ready to relocate there. The guy doing my interior is one of the purchasing partners. Hopefully they will be able to keep the fleet going strong for many years to come!
Wood is the original composite material . Strong and light.
Treated well, it will last a very long time!
I'm sure you know way more than I do but you can IO-550 it when it makes sense to.
I went back and forth 18 years ago between a Beech Travelair and Viking. Flew lots of night and weather so went with the twin
Now I am going to buy one. I have seen the 4 or 5 out there. One has to be very careful. One says it has a 75 hour TSMOH but 2 cylinders in the low 60s. Who knows. Stuck valve at the least. Lol.
I am looking to pay for a ride along next spring. That's when I will have the ability to buy the right one. Not the wrong one.
Great vids. Did ya see that gal doing aerobatics?
It's tempting to roll it easy. 1G
I have seen Debbie Gary (spelling) doing the aerobatics. Just last week my wife and I decided to move to FL so if I can’t find hanger space mine will be for sale. I hope it doesn’t come to that but it can’t sit outside. Thanks for watching!
G,day WY guy from Sydney Australia.
* I love the velvety magenta suit.
* Is there any filming of GUS fuselage covering being repaired? I am interested in the material and type of paint: primer, how many coats and the type of paint?
* A plane rated for acrobatics has to have fuel pump for inverted flight. Has the Balanca the ability to fly inverted?
Take care and "all gauges in the green?"

Unfortunately I couldn’t be there when the repairs were made to the fabric so I don’t have any idea how that is done. Perhaps sometime I can go back there when he is doing a repair and film the process. There are videos of Debbie Gary doing aerobatics but I am uncertain what modifications were made to her plane to allow this. I also know several people have done aileron rolls in them and other positive g maneuvers all be it without certification for it. Myself, I’ll stick to aircraft certified for aerobatics for my “weeeee”.
I'm attached to my BSV too.
They are great planes!
I love the Vikings, right down to their house of I’ll repute crushed velour upholstery.
Oh I prefer a much more up-to-date interior experience as opposed to the velour and tweed. 😂
@@wyflyguy114 ROFLMAO! I had a friend in Redding California in or around 1980 who had just purchased a stinky new Super Viking. It was fucking beautiful green metallic exterior with under white and a silver accent stripe. The interior was atomic mint green velour with matching exterior green leather trim. I vomited into my own mouth! From that day on I have been a closet Bellancaphile!
We should re-make this video in TODAYs camera set up!
That would be amazing!
Yes if he wanted his pilots license, but he didn't so he bought A DC-9 -30 had other pilots fly him around

I like his Just Plane Silly tribute on his desk. I’m sure BrYan Turner had nothing to do with that 😂
Thanks!
That was a Christmas gift from my team. They have no idea who BrYan even is…..shocking I know!
@@wyflyguy114 probably best to keep it that way 😂
I shared it to a reddit group just now and a facebook group earlier. Dude, I can't figure it out. This channel is top notch content. I am grasping at straws trying to figure out how to help you get out there. You have all the ingredients. Incredibly high quality and perfect editing. So good.
Oooooooh, turbo Viking, manual waste gates, ummm. Ummmm ummmmm. Xwoooo, had a moment.
That sounds like Ronald Reagan's voice, though I can't find a reference.
