    Nice boat Humphrey. Kinda reminds me of the old Prathers we used to run years ago. And 50 mph is pretty crazy. Nice build.

    Cool Mike!! Glad you liked it, definitely reminds me of all the fun times we used to have with those old Prather tunnels. I think this one goes as fast as the big one I had. It's crazy how fast the electrics are these days.

    The motor is outside the hull of the boat in the open air so don't usually have a problem with it over heating as long as it's not too hot outside.

    This is probably a flaw in the hull design as mine does it to. It will jump and spin out if turned to tight and fast. Some of the older tunnel hull designs had a turn fin mounted under the boat on the inside of the tunnel, right about where the cg is. You might try experimenting with that to see how it works. Cut the leading edge at about 45 degrees and bend the fin to the inside of the hull at about 10-15 degrees. It should stick down about 1 1/2 inches below the bottom of the hull.

    THAT THING IS CRAZY FRANK …. Every time I see you ripping these boats it makes me wanna get one this summer I know a couple guys that have nitro boats but don’t come close to the speeds this thing is doing

    I ordered the same boat a few days ago from Hobbyking. I'm planin to upgrade mine aswell. You gave me some good ideas, thanks. Also your videos helped me with some other boats I have. Good job Humphrey. Maybe I shoul upload some of my videos to.

    @FlyGuy12000 the tug boat tows a string with some fishing bobbers attached at the end. You just drive out to the flipped boat and circle around it until the bobbers catch the rudder of the flipped boat, then tow it back to shore.

    The 1450kv motor is very popular and always sells out. HobbyKing will restock this one but no telling when they will. If you want one you should sign in and submit for e-mail notification when it is restocked. As for a replacement you can try the Turnigy 500 H3126 1600KV Brushless outrunner. It is rated at 1500watts, is in stock, and works great with Octura X442 or X642 on 4s and 5s LiPo Batteries. For 6s run with Octura X440 prop.

    @PornstaR16L I went with the Fullers unit because it is molded as one piece which makes it much stronger at the bottom where the lower bushing screws in. I have had two piece ones like the K&B outboard break apart after a while. If you are only running 4s either type would hold up fine.

  • @DiehardRCaddicts
    @DiehardRCaddicts  12 років тому

    @roadstar499 that will help keep the battery cooler but will push more power through the esc and motor which will make them work harder and run warmer. The esc is 120amp but should be 180amp with the power of this setup.

  • @DiehardRCaddicts
    @DiehardRCaddicts  12 років тому

    I agree the stock outboard drive breakes too easy. I have replaced mine with the Fullers Fast Electric one piece Lower leg unit and that's whats running in the video. Handles 6s with no problem. There are links in the video information bar below the video. Ray Fuller is very helpful and will answer any questions about his outboard drive system.

  • @DiehardRCaddicts
    @DiehardRCaddicts  11 років тому

    The complete lower drive was replaced because the stock one can't take this much power without breaking it. It is designed for 28mm size motors running on 3 cells.

    If you want to water cool the motor you will need to switch to a brushless inrunner like the Turnigy SK3 3659-1600kv or Turnigy SK3 3659-1900kv motor. Use the 1600kv for 6s and the 1900kv for 4s or 5s setups. These are awesome motors from hobbyking.

    I use the liquid plastic as it can easily be removed if nessesary.I've heard of other people using epoxy, liquid tape, electrical Corrosion x, and electrical grade silicone. Make sure it is electrical grade or it can damage the electronics. I haven't tried any of these other ways so can't tell you how well they work. I can tell you I'm happy with the liquid plastic as it works great. Warning, most of these will void any manufactrure warranty if it cannot be removed before sending it back.

    hi frank, i bought a hornet after watching this vid, fitted same esc & ran the boat on the stock motor (died on 4s) fitted leopard 2860 2040kv & 1.4 x 37prop. still running this setup on 5s 45c 5000!! cant believe the flex hasnt broken yet! ( video "hobbyking hornet f1 5s" ) i have a proboat outboard that i have fitted your super edf 3659 1900 motor to...442 prop, 4mm flex & i machined it to replace the prop bush with 60,000 rev capable bearings (not yet on the boat) will post vid when done : )

    @catamaranman333 on 6s I used an APC 6.5 x 6.5 sport prop and on 5s we use 7x6 or 7x8 sport props. All these props are for fuel motors and are thicker and stronger than the electric props. On 3s you could probably turn a 10 or 11 inch prop.

  • @wildhover

    i think a 50 mph tugboat would be an interesting next project. if it flips over, then you could use the tunnel hull to tow it in

  • @DiehardRCaddicts
    @DiehardRCaddicts  13 років тому

    @catamaranman333 I'm not quite sure what you mean by traditional boat shaft. Boats usually use a solid shaft, flex shaft or wire drive. Any of these would work as you just cut them to the length that you need. Do a search for these and you will see what I mean.

  • @DiehardRCaddicts
    @DiehardRCaddicts  11 років тому

    I personally think the Fullers unit is better than the K&B one. Its lighter and stronger because it's one piece design and does holds up to 6s no problem. You just have to remember to keep the flex shaft lubed and it will last a long time.

  • @DiehardRCaddicts
    @DiehardRCaddicts  11 років тому

    @aussieboy108 this setup may be too much for the Sprint F3 outboard drive as it is fitted with a 28mm motor in stock configuration. The motor I used had a 5mm shaft and the Sprint F3 outboard takes a 3.17mm motor shaft. You could probably modify it to fit but I don't think it would hold up to this motor on 6s power.

      DiehardRCaddicts Did you put some weight on front of this boat? sometimes the prop can't catch the water and pushes air not a water, any advice?

      +RCFF-DiehardRC I have a turnigy marine esc too. I have my cooling setup where the esc is before the motor and found out it was cutting out like yours so I brought it back to check. I brought my temp laser gun and saw it was like 165F and motor was like 140F. Batteries were low like 72F. I was running slow because it was my 3rd time.
      If the esc never got to the point where it went to overheat mode you probably would have set your lipos on fire.
      Next run I'm going to be running higher RPM but cooling should be better but I should keep an eye on the lipo temps after.

  • @DiehardRCaddicts
    @DiehardRCaddicts  11 років тому

    Water has not not been a problem. If it gets wet just ring it out with a blip of the thottle then keep on running. Just make sure to spray it down with som kind of water repellent like WD40 after you finis running for the day to make sure the water doesn't cause corrosion etc.

  • @DiehardRCaddicts
    @DiehardRCaddicts  11 років тому

    Yes the Dubro 3.5cc adjustable outboard mount will work but it is not as strong as the Prather mount.

  • @DiehardRCaddicts

    i also noticed in your videos that the motor you used did have cooling issues, could you you please tell me from the hobbyking website, what would be the best water cooled motor to use running 6s, thanks so much, your reviews are awesome, keep up the good work!

    @DiehardRCaddicts  12 років тому

    @JANCSI1978 I don't know where you can get parts for the stock drive and I don't think it's worth the trouble to fix it as it will most likely break again. I suggest replacing the complete drive with a Fullers drive unit. Please have a look at the link to Fullers Fast Electric in the video information bar below the video. Ray Fuller is very helpful and will answer any questions you may have about his outboard drive system.

    @DiehardRCaddicts I've been playing with air-powered hydrofoils for about a year now. I use heli blades for the actual foils and in some cases use a gyro to keep the thing level. The nice thing is you don't get the pitchpoles and the "speed limit" goes up. My runs haven't been tested but I estimate top speed pretty close to 50MPH. I've been using airplane motors so far but been thinking of switching to water drive. How hard would it be to extend a traditional boat shaft to 6"+?

    Please tell me how do you waterproof your ESC ? In my original Hobby King Hornet mine got wet & fried itself. I'm sure there's 10 ways to waterproof them & I'd like to know a few easy & effective ways other than dipping it in liquid plastic stuff that some of you guys in the US use. I can't find this goo in the land of Oz (Australia) & there must be better ways.

    Hi Frank, I've copied your mods, except I got the large aluminium leg. It went ok on 3s and is very quick on 6s. However the 5mm shaft has broken at the coupling on only the second speed run. I was using a 40mm aluminium propellor. The sales guy reckons 6s is way to much. What shaft are you using?

    @catamaranman333 after I got home I found out why the boat shut down at the end. The outboard drive shaft bearing was binding from me forgetting to lubricate it before running the boat. So I would have to say there is still more speed in it. I'll need to get it back out now that I've had everything apart and it's bind free again. There's always a need for more speed!!!
