    This is a very inspirational story for young people of both genders, who yearn to fly. How this pilot obtained permission to overfly Schipol airport in a Cessna, I'll never know, but the footage obtained on that day, is fantastic.

      Probably a request on behalf of JustPlanes and Bo herself, I don’t think they’d have a problem with it as long as you stay away from the active runway approach and take off paths

      Overflying Schiphol is possible by calling to the tower on the phone a day or 2 before. They will tell you if it’s possible and give you a time of day when it’s not busy. Then when you show up your RT has to be crisp and on point so they know what you are doing and they will let you circle overhead. Quite a sight to behold :)

    • @riverbankfisher

      @@DeltaCOOKIE42 Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification HighTower. My layman's assumption had been that flying at altitudes below say 5,000 feet AGL, within the restricted airspace surrounding airports, would only be permissible for scheduled arriving and departing aircraft.

    So many people commenting here who have not a clue... Bo is a product of the European integrated flight training system. You study for close to two years full time, no social life, and when you pass the 14 ATPL exams, yes 14, not one like in the US, and the flight tests, you have CPL, MEL and IFR and about 200-250 hours. You have a "frozen" ATPL and you can start right away in the right seat of an airliner and build time this way until you reach 1500 hours, at which time you have a full fledged ATPL.
    The flight schools choose their students carefully, screening them before admission with IQ tests, memory tests, spatial awareness tests, etc, because they want to train airline pilots. The costs are really high, typically 100 000 euros.
    The main difference with the US system is that in Europe you don't build hours by becoming a CFI or doing night mail runs, you build hours like Bo flying the big planes right away.

    • @airbus214airplane
      @airbus214airplane 5 років тому +1

      Based on your explanation, now I really don't want to fly on European carriers. You shouldn't apprentice flying 400 people. You can explain your rules all you want but there's a reason we have minimum flight hours in the USA. It's to keep the flying public as safe as possible. Someone with a few hundred hours should not be in the right seat of an airliner. I'm not an asshole like you think we all are. And I'm also glad more women are flying! We need that. Just when you have the proper amount of hours.

      @Gilles45 5 років тому +4

      @223 Remington My opinion is as good as yours, right? 🙂 and for your information, Bo is not the only pilot in this category... Hundreds, yes hundreds of pilots, male and female, are flying airliners in Europe in their early twenties. And when they reach 1500 hours, 1300 of those will be flying the big boys. You don't have to agree, but it is the way it's done in Europe...

    Congratulations to this young lady. Now she must spend the rest of her life being thankful to all engineers who look after her ALL THE TIME due to making safe structures in aircraft. Every successful flight she conducts is a great honor to engineers.
    I love how she appreciates how great engineers are in her life, when at 2:59, she says, " When I pushed the throttle forwards and I hear these engines spin, It was absolutely fantastic." Then later at 4:20 she says," To feel those four engines and you are in control!" What I disagree with her is when she says, " I am in control" because simply pushing the throttle forward it does not mean that she is in control! The people in control are not sitting beside her, but are at a distance, those who made the structure are still in control of her life, those who made the automatic pilots are in control of her life, those who made those high-speed turbine blades are in control of her life as they made sure that they do not fly out and kill her. The people who made the hydraulic lines and the microprocessor are in control when she switches over to the automatic pilot and she rests while it is THE ENGINEERS WHO ARE FLYING HER CRAFT. When she follows the information of GPS and monitors and sensors and data and combinations of states and how the metal was made by engineers to withstand the forces generated at any state of the craft, SHE IS NOT IN CONTROL OF THAT but it is the engineers who made it and tested it and installed it with the right bolts and nuts to hold in place. In control are those King Pins holding the massive engines......... she is not in control of the compressor blades as they are on their own. She is not in control of the material in the main cantilever spar which holds all that weight including her young frail body, the wing spar does not need her, but she needs the wing spar.
    So the philosophy of " I am in control is only a philosophical illusion", It is a psychology that could be a blind feeling to hide another issue which I shall not talk about.
    We need pilots to operate the aircraft........... but they must not insist that " They are the only people who are in control when they fly" To confirm what I am saying all one needs to do is to look at the latest incidents involving the two Boring 747 MAX of the Lion and Ethiopian airlines........then ask the question ," Who is in control of any aircraft." and the answer is partly those who are in the cockpit and much control autonomous control in the equipment made by engineers over which the pilot has no control , but equipment which is holding the aircraft together. The psychology of flying is interesting, but one must not run away with the idea that flying an aircraft is a case when one person is " in control on his own!" Far far from it.

    Schitterend verhaal, prachtige beelden van Amsterdam en omgeving! Dat betekent voor mij vliegen: op zo'n 1.500 ft met 80 knoopjes lekker uit het raampje kijken. Maar level 330 heeft ook zo z'n charme. Toch sluit ik me aan bij sommigen die jou graag in het echt in aan de controls van de Queen of the Skies hadden zien zitten. Want nu sta je in de PH-BUK op het Aviodrome, de kist waarin ik in 1995 terugvloog van San Francisco naar Amsterdam. Ook indrukwekkend, maar we zien natuurlijk allemaal uit het het 'echie'! Bij de weg, mijn ambitieuze buurmeisje was ooit de jongste captain van Nederland, ze vloog op de F27 Friendship en is nu gezagvoerder op een 777 van de KLM. Dat is ook voor jou weggelegd, succes! ABESOLUTE AWESOME TO HAVE A DREAM LIKE THAT TO COME TRUE! EVEN AS AN ELDERLY WOMAN TODAY, WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, I KNEW I WANTED TO BECOME AN AIRLINE STEWARDESS AFTER GRADUATION. BUT MY PARENTS WOULDN'T HEAR OF IT BECAUSE BACK IN THOSE DAYS OF 1960'S NOT TOO MANY WOMEN CHOSE THAT AS A PROFESSION, AND THEY WORRIED THAT SOMETHING BAD WOULD HAPPEN TO ME. BUT I JUST WANTED TO FLY EVERYWHERE AND SEE AS MUCH OF THE USA AND OTHER PLACES AROUND THE WORLD THAT I COULD. AFTER ALL, I GOT THE "BUG FOR WANTING TO TRAVEL" FROM MY PRECIOUS GRANDPA WHO AT AN EARLY AGE BEGAN TO TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD WORKING IN THE ENGINE ROOMS OF THE BIG CARGO SHIPS AND LATER ON WORKED FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE DOWN IN THE ENGINE ROOMS. I MISSED HIM SO MUCH WHEN HE WAS GONE FOR ANYWHERE FROM 3 TO 9 MONTHS AT A TIME TRAVELLING AROUND THE WORLD. BUT THANK THE LORD WHEN HE RETIRED, I GOT TO SPEND MANY YEARS WITH HIM UNTIL HE DIED AT 94 YEARS OLD! PARENTS, NEVER DISCOURAGE YOUR CHILDREN OR GRAND-CHILDREN TO BECOME ALL THAT THEY CAN BE IN THIS LIFE, AS THE LORD PUTS DIFFERENT DESIRES IN EACH OF OUR HEARTS TO DO AND BECOME MANY THINGS! Well most 747-400’s are being retired, KLM is planning to retire their 747’s by the end of 2020. So she’s not got much of a choice

      I mean as in follow the 747, if airline 1 retires the 747 then go to airline 2(probably a cargo airline) Expertise matters.
