The problem with RINGS is that they did both pro-wrestling matches and MMA fights, sometimes on the same cards. The websites that keep track of MMA records often mix these up.
the rules for this were all goofy, to ensure an actual match wouldn't break out lol. they should have just allowed pins for karelin. but he probably didn't want it to resemble wrestling, as not to tarnish his career, which it sorta did anyway
By this point, Maeda was out of shape and couldn't really go anymore, and Karelin wanted to protect himself for the 2000 Olympics. The rules made sense in that regard, and I thought it was still a pretty entertaining pro-wrestling match for what it was. Karelin came out looking strong and Maeda got a few spots in as well.
alexander karelin team was saying (in russian) "careful, careful don't push him (Japanese fighter) that much " Basically dont break Maeda
I admire the Japanese wrestler. Meet the grizzly and stay alive..... this is the greatest skill and courage.

Karelin's pure wrestling kept Maeda from taking a lot of knees to the head, only reason he survived
I don't care if it's a "work." Karelin is a legendary Olympian, Maeda is a kegendary pro wrestler and this maatch was epic.
this is a total work..no way maeda, could ever beat karelin
Obviously. Most probably knew it was a work at the time.
it was like $3 million in cash to portray an opponent, sorta@@kicksubmissionsuplex1700
Ogawa would destroy Maeda. Karelin would in turn destroy ogawa unless ogawa landed a lucky punch.
Wrestling is more traditional than boxing because it focus on basics .
It is easier to become boxer as compared to wrestler .
2:49 fear on fate .
If I play karlin i would play to lose .😬
seeing that this had a gate comparable to modern ufc events, i’d say whatever it cost they could pay lol
Combat sports of any kind are more successful in Japan than in the west
@@monarch1651yeah definitely. i think it’s the pro wrestling influence. they knew how to get people to care more it seems
the fan base is more connoisseur imo@@dmonsterrrrrrr
the way the west was decades ago
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Lenzberginius i siukslina ......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not a real MMA fight
No one said it was! 🤣
@@kicksubmissionsuplex1700 I came here cause in FB linked like that, but yes, here no one said it.

this type of distraction did not help him in the olympics and he ended up losing@@kicksubmissionsuplex1700
