One of Tabasco's most prized artifacts

- McIlhenny Company CEO Tony Simmons displays one of the earliest bottles of Tabasco, which he estimates was probably made in the early 1870s. It is only slightly different from the bottles the company uses today.
I would still use it! I bet it tastes phenomenal 😋 Tabasco forever!
Isnt it conservated well by the salt and vinegar?
DerZeppterdesAldi yep but it is probably very very very musty tasting and it will not taste like Tabasco.
@@curiousentertainment3008 It will probably taste like pepper but with zero heat. The peppers lose their capsaicin over time. I had a 10 year old bottle of Sriracha long past its due date and I tried some one time and it didn't taste bad but it had zero spice. All the capsaicin was gone
does the capsaicin break down into other molecules or what happens?@@mulder19x95
Despite being preserved by the salt and vinegar, this wouldn't be safe to eat now. It's not possible to preserve food indefinitely, regardless of what you do to it.
Who is also tasting tabasco while watching this?
Bout to cook a couple eggs. Only thing I put on em is some Tabasco. The vinegar combines with the choline in the egg yolks to create Acetylcholine which is an important precursor, and allows your body to turn Linoleic acid into dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid which stands in for polyunsaturated fats in your cells that never oxidizes, or turns into glycation end products. It's also an important neurotransmitter.
@@grndzro777 whoa haha
@@grndzro777 Damn, ok there mr science man! I just put it on about everything, extremely generously too. I usually go through a 5oz bottle in a little over a week, if not less.
Decided to sprinkle some Tabasco on my tacos before folding them the other day, and it was a fantastic addition, now I can't get enough of the stuff. I've gotta make more tacos so I can have more Tabasco.
I’ve only used tobasco on my hemeroids for decades. Never tasted it.
Is it good?
I wish the company would introduce a limited edition copy of the original bottle like that.
back in the late 1990's I first tasted tabasco regular.... to this day I still love putting it on my food.
That is awesome! Tabasco is hard to beat. Folks have been trying for a a hundred and fifty-two years. There are good hot sauces but none better than Tabasco.
Nah, Srirachia is just as good, but a completely different category. As far as Louisiana style hot sauce goes it is indeed the king of flavor.
3 ingredients and 2 years fermentation. Hard to beat tabasco.
I love Tabasco In fact I'd still use that bottle on my food it's just aged like a fine wine. :D N.
That's what I was thinking. 😊🙌
I love tabasco!
It was made by my ansester, Edmund Mcilhenny. so that's cool, and my last name is Mcilhenny

I have some Tabasco mini bottles saved from MRE's in the field. They got pulled out of my storage box a week ago (after 20+ years) and they had turned green. Wonder if it is still good?
PCShogun one way to find out they sale aged sauces so I’d assume it’d be ok but pungent
I love the little bottles. They're potent and pack a punch.
I have one of these and the sauce is still red. We use it for a Christmas tree ornament every year. The rest of the year it's packed in a dark box. It's never been opened.
No. But update us
Pretty spectacular!!!
I also love tobasco, this brand is perfect, I am not sure how they do it, but I love it, not a huge fan of vinegar, but dam, this blend is magic, 3 ingredients and adds to food, doesn't mask the flavor.
Check out some of the mini documentaries. Really interesting how they make it.
It's spicy vinegar. 😆
It's like nobody notices the whiskey notes from the used whiskey barrels it was aged in...
How amazing is it that I've always mixed Tabasco with my ketchup as a kid...
Not very amazing?
I love tobasco. Its a simple hot sauce that really let's the pepper flavor do all the talking. Most mild hot sauces just taste like vinegar and salt to me . But tobasco really has that nice pepper taste.
absolutely, it is such a pure pepper flavor, not super salty like many other hot sauces.
I tried the habonero version, regular, verde, sweet and sour, soon will try the scorpion and hopefully the carolina reaper versions.
What are your favorites?
1870 - "WARNING, spicy, two drops, mix, dilute"
XXI century - "don't pour into you eyeball ffs"
Please make this video available to watch in Canada, eh.
I love Tabasco!
I am a fan.
Ill buy it, is 3k enough?
2022 and I keep a bottle of this with me i always felt like the original recipe was darker and thicker

Best hot sauce in the world.
"hot" sauce its weak man
Yes it is weak but it has a nice flavor.
Thats true, its a nice sauce :D
Tabasco is the absolute best all purpose hot sauce. If you like heat the habanero is amazing.
I have a bottle of tobasco from the 1870 and its still full. Can somebody tell me what is the price of the bottle?
Send it to me and I'll do a taste test. I'm honest...I swear :)
@@grndzro777 its in the original box and i will not send it to any one

I'm going to the fridge right now!
You don't need to refrigerate Tabasco Brand Pepper Sauce!!!! I'd actually advise against it!
@@ghg789987 ahhh the ol "to fridge or not to fridge" debate. I'm on team fridge every sauce as well as pineapple on pizza and flats instead of drums. I know.... I know... I have problems 😂

John Tobasco was a great man
lol
A few drops mixed with ketchup gives french fries some added kick. Eggs too. Never without a bottle in the kitchen cabinet.
“…one or two drops are enough…”
I didn’t get the memo. It’s usually one or two table spoons for me….
great company great product...i'm not using crystal anymore..i think
Watch this then watch the Munchies version with Matty Matheson. 😂🔥
Imagine if a dropped it
the warning is super funny, these days a large amount of us pile on the tabasco
I drown my pizza in it
Looks yummy. I would dip it on chips.
When I was growing up in Southeast Louisiana I'm 63 now but as a child there was no other literally figuratively and historically I believe we didn't know it was another kind of pepper with the Advent of the internet now so many people can know what I knew as a kid on a Monday red beans and rice I put a few dropped on top was heaven on Earth there were a few minor brands but Tabasco was on every and when I mean every table in every restaurant it was there
Tobasco is the Best
It’s not just the sauce, it’s the name..Tabasco
Wait are we supposed to be diluting this
Tabasco is one of my all time favorite hot sauces. I go through several small bottles a year preferring to keep small bottles of fresh sauce in the fridge instead of big stale bottles. I also like Sriracha (Huy Fong) from California. It's completely different from Tabasco but I love it's fresh blend of flavors. I use both often. I like Tabasco sauce for it's aged mellowness, sharp, quick heat and vinegar tang.
@willowsloughdx -- The BIG bottles never have a chance of getting stale around here. 😋👍
Also, McIlhenny Co. now makes a Tabasco-branded sriracha sauce; check it out!
@@gfride1 Thanks, but no thanks. I prefer genuine Huy Fong Sriracha to imitators just as I prefer genuine Tabasco from McIlhenny Co. I like to mix them myself and because I'm the only one in this empty nest household that uses hot pepper sauces I know exactly how much of these I need to keep a fresh supply. Maybe your household uses more, that's fine with me. It's silly to think that how big a bottle you use is any sort of virtue.
@@willowsloughdx with sriracha, at this point, it's more of a "find your favorite" due to how many of them are on the market. i don't even know if i ever had THE original during all those years...
Tabasco Sauce
Oh man i love tabasco!! I add it to almost everything i ate, including breakfast cereals, just add a few drops on the milk, give it a good stir and boom!
No. That is a stupid comment.
@@PlanktoniusRex how is that?

Isn't 'Tabasco' a place in Mexico?
150 year old tobasco sauce...
I been doing my Ancestry DNA, and on my fathers side of the family we have Irish but i'm welsh but I found out that we are very distant relatives of tabasco source makers and also the founder of the pay gas meters.
