In my opinion, you are one of the best java instructors that can be found on UA-cam, and also in this video you show a great sense of humor. Another thing that I like about your videos is that you use a language that for me, being a Spanish speaker, is highly understandable without the need to use subtitles. Thank you and please continue creating content.

As a computer science college instructor myself, I can comment to the "why pay for college when I can watch you?" thoughts. The college environment isn't for everyone, and I find your videos serve as a wonderful refresher on concepts I had forgotten about, and I often use them to supplement my classroom lectures. Not everyone is going to "get" my explanations, so I don't see any reason why not to provide a second source (these videos) just in case my explanation isn't sufficient for some students.
Ultimately, by only watching videos like this, you lose the direct back-and-forth communication that you get in a classroom. I know the vast majority of my students would never have gotten most of the topics I'm teaching if there wasn't someone there to answer questions and clarify things, and that's much harder to do on a comment section. So that's, in my view, the main tradeoff between college vs. online videos for learning.

    • @valentinab164

Totally agree with you, the problem is some teachers aren't as open to questions as you are. I attended many courses (almost every single course in my university) where they had to teach an entry-level subject for example operating systems, programming 1, etc and nothing of those courses was entry-level.
I remember vividly the first lesson ever in my life at university (programming 1) where the guy started talking about pseudoramdomness maybe he was talking about how his lessons were going to be, I couldn't really get that at the time.
The point I'm trying to make is that people aren't going to ask them anything if they're not teaching the basics for those questions to be created.

Greatly appreciated. Thanks also for demonstrating the youtube production tools and environment. The emphasis on sound quality and Your speaking speed is very interesting. People often speed up the sound when listening to prose, but with educational material the opposite can be a good practice, nice youtube provides this feature. Also You don't repeat unnecessarily neither do You have a lengthy introduction. And _obviously_ You produce quality content.

I personally really like the pacing of your videos; if i'm not fully grasping some concept i just rewatch them. Also, John, please don't use a mat below your laptop! you're obstructing it's airflow and probably making the apu hotter D: i have a similar lenovo ideapad and all the air intake is below it.
now, a question, is it possible for you to make a maven tutorial in the future? maven is an awesome tool but the documentation presents so many concepts that one can get lost easily with what is the most important; also the quickstart guide from apache doesn't really feel like something one could truly apply to real projects, it feels incomplete and personally it leaves me wondering "what should i know next to integrate this tool into my already existing projects?"

I used to think audible read their books too fast because I couldn’t fully catch what they were saying so i slowed it down to like .8x speed. After reading Jim Kwik’s book he talks about how powerful our brains are he suggests turning the speed on your audiobook to at least 1.5x speed and lo and behold I was able to understand it 100 times better because the speed doesn’t give my mind a chance to wander off because of the content being too slow. I do this with all of John’s and other instructional videos on coding. It truly helps and hey if you miss something go back ten seconds or so and the information is repeated and you get through the information 1.5x times faster.
