The "creepy clown faces" is actually my favorite visual piece of the video, the girl has a smiling clown mask, and then she lifts it and you can see she's crying. In those two split seconds, so much is said, about how people wear happy masks to hide the pain from others, to the point where it's so unnatural it's almost clownish. It's too bad it often goes unnoticed, it's such a powerful metaphor.
The woman in the mask is Karen Page love interest id Matt Murdoch The Daredevil from Marvel Comics. This is from the much hated Ben Affleck Jennifer Garner movie 2003. Fallen the 1st Evenesvence album came out in 2002 Bring Me to Life and My Immortal were both on the soundtrack . Both have videos. Did not hate the movie at the time and still am a fan of Evanescence to this day.
Anyone else notice how Elizabeth seems to listen with her eyes as well as ears? I feel like its such a testament to her enthusiasm and love for these videos. Amazing.
Yes Elizabeth is very expressive with her eyes, smile, hands, etc. Perhaps being not just a singer, but also a performer as an Opera singer is part of the reason. Then again I bet Elizabeth has always been an open book of expression and being an opera singer suited her very well! Fortunately she shares both her artistic side, but also her technical training/knowledge. Thankfully Elizabeth shares herself wonderfully in her reaction videos. ;-)
People tend to dismiss bands like Evanescence since they sound very early 2000s and angsty (and have been memed to death) but the music is still good imo. Amy Lee has been my favorite female vocalist since I was little, her voice is truly incredible and haunting. Super nostalgic band, their music still evokes a lot of emotion in me as an adult.
Evanescence, Linkin park, Three days grace, Limp bizkit, Nickelback and many more have all been memed and looked at as cringy depression music. I feel that people have done a 180 nowadays, now they meme liking these bands even though its cool and easy to hate on them. Chester commiting suicide has proboably shifted the perspective too.
@@Jablan11yeah, for sure - though the few times I saw Lincoln Park in concert they were ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL, every single time 🙏❤️❤️🙏 What a loss when Chester checked out, then his friend and one of my teen favorites Chris.. kills me how many of the absolute greatest of all time musicians we've lost since I guess 2002 when we lost Layne, although he had all but disappeared locking himself away for a long time before...
"My Immortal" would be a better showcase of her voice... in my opinion. Also .. I enjoy watching your love of the great performances that have been presented to you... it is very endearing. I watch your facial expressions more than any of the videos you showcase .. LOL.
I don't ever comment on YT videos, but I came to say this exact thing. The live version of My Immortal on the Evanesence channel is just something else. Would really love to see a reaction to her live vocals on that track.
@@51-73-i6w I'd argue the first 3 albums from 12 Stones, but I think that's only because I think those things have aged like fine wine. Initially I only liked one of those albums can't remember which, but going back, I found I enjoyed them more. So I say if you haven't explored them maybe go back and check them out again, I love those albums for long drives. But I yeah I understand your sentiment.
I think "Lithium" is the best song to really showcase her amazing voice! So beautiful. Also she did a song with BMTH called "One Day the Only Butterfly's Left Will Be in Your Chest as You March Towards Death"
Liz would absolutely go nuts for that one, not just for the vocals but the instrumentals involved as well. That is truly one of the most hauntingly beautiful, intense, and impressive songs of all time. It's my favorite song but it's one I only allow myself to listen to on rare occasions so it never loses it's impact on me and leaves me in that same stunned state it did the first times I'd listened to it.
@@TheVampireFreddo Lithium is great but if you look around torrent sites looking for bootlegs, demos and leaks from Amy Lee you can find some amazing things. My favourite one is a demo called "You" (can now be found on youtube but not the same version I found 15 year ago).
Amy Lee was my first real crush when I saw this music video for the first time, back when I was a pre-teen. I remember sitting there with my jaw dropped the entire time while this video was playing. I found her voice powerful, emotional, dark, and angelic. And it was a perfect fit for her in every way. When he tries to pull her up, I was jealous. I wanted desperately to be in his shoes to save her from that fall. All of these years later, I still adore her. She's as beautiful now as she was back then. And her voice is just as angelic as ever.
The girl with the facial expression of a shocked Disney princess! She is clearly very knowledgeable on her subject, but I love her reactions when she hears something she likes. 👍
I absolutely love this comment! I was thinking that her non-verbal cues are so strong I could pretty much understand her message with the volume turned off, but 'shocked Disney princess' sums it up much better.
Yeah, the creepy clown face, I can feel her hahaha, feeling guilt, hahha. It's a surprise... for instance we shouldn't judge by looks only because like the creepy clown face, yeah it's smilin' outside but in reality she's bleeding! Hahaha I love her reaction even no words she say..
This song was included the Daredevil movie soundtrack, so I think that the ambient sounds we hear in the video might also be alluding to the heightened sense of sound the blind hero has, so those sounds are what he experiences when out hero-ing
My childhood put me into an early, cold emotional grave. All the way into my 30s I wouldn’t allow myself to feel anything or bond with anybody. Then my wife came along and she breathed life back into me. This is SUCH AN IMPORTANT SONG, and I genuinely appreciate that you cared about it enough to put that much thought into.
Amy Lee said in a 2021 interview that she did not want a male voice on this song. But the record company told her listeners to this Goth genre as it was called at the time would expect male voices not just a female voice. Now in her third iteration of her band, there is no male voice.
Elizabeth - I recommend the recent live version with Amy Lee in collaboration with WagakkiBand. The combination of her vocals and the traditional Japanese instruments is stunning.
@@TheCharismaticVoice If I may, I'll just leave this here. It's live, almost every band member has a solo. (It's Wagakki themselves, without Amy) ua-cam.com/video/ponTbDDMYjw/v-deo.html
We always have to remember how young Amy was when this song was released, in her early 20's. These days she has matured and her voice is much stronger and more powerful ('Lost In Paradise' for example).
I saw them live after the release of Fallen. While very enjoyable, and a good show, at the time at least, her voice didn't hold up to what I expected from hearing her studio work. But indeed, she was still quite young at the time, and relatively unexperienced, especially with regards to performing for a very large public. Fallen changed their world, and changed rock music. It is an amazing production, which was for a very large part done by the band itself. They went from 'yet another unknown rock band' to playing at huge venues and festivals in essentially no time at all. I do recall her complaining about too little rest, too many shows, and having trouble with her voice as a result at the time, so maybe my impression was based on unlucky timing, tho it does match existing live recordings from that time.
• Lacrymosa (Live Synthesis DVD) •Good Enough (Live Steinway Hall) •Speak To Me (Amy's song for the movie Voice From The Stone) • Lithium •End of the Dream (Live Synthesis DVD) • Lost in Paradise (Live Nobel Peace Prize) • Sally's Song (Amy Lee live Jay Leno 2008) • Bring Me To Life ft Waggaki Band Live
Lacrymosa is my favourite Evanescence song, and it’s one of their most underrated. It’s always nice to see someone else appreciate it. Because most people don’t even know it exists- it wasn’t one of the massive hits.
I have seen more vocal coach reactions than I can remember. You are by far the best. The way you break everything down with so much genuine emotion is wonderful. I could truly feel you getting caught up in the lyrics, story, video and pure talent of this work of art. You were almost giddy at times and I love seeing that. Well done and it made me further appreciate a song I have heard hundreds of times.
Being 27 and growing up to this song as a kid, I always loved it, but obviously there were a lot of elements of the song I didn't fully understand, until now. And yes, the production in the video is insanely good. This song was so many years before it's time, and in a lot of ways signals the music of the future combining elements of metal, hip hop, and Amy's operatic/emo style voicing. The lyrics are phenomenal and the song evokes everything it is set out to.
lol, this was 2002, metal and hip hop had been mixing for more than 10 years, lol. Its even 3-4 years after the first Linkin Park album, which brought the synth into it. She was the first in the mainstream to have this operatic sound, but this was several years after the first Nightwish album as well, IIRC, and Lacuna Coil had definitely been out for a little while as well (enough so that the record company allegedly pushed to have the male vocals on the track, since that was already an established element of the goth sound). Not to say its not great, but it was definitely not the first. Of course, most of that stuff would have been before you were paying attention to music, so that is understandable (not trying to be condescending, just noticed you would have been around 7 when this came out)
Sad fact though, the band didn't want the male vocalist in the song, they were forced by the label to add him and the rapping as they didn't believe a band with only a female vocalist could be big (clearly forgetting bands like Heart). Amy Lee said she cried a lot over what they did to the song. I always really liked that part of the song though, so I was sad when I found that out
@@bactrosaurus Same, I used to be able to hit those notes as a kid, and it always put me out when the rapping part came in because it was just too different. I'm glad they've made alternate versions more recently without the rapping.
After rap blew up in the 90s there followed a decade or so where so. many. songs had rappers added to them unnecessarily. It has aged very badly even though I love rap.
I just wanted to take a minute to the let you know how amazing you and your chanel are. You have made an old vocalist, (Opera too but never in your class.) listen with new ears. I have always been an "all eater" when it comes to music, however opera and metal have through out my life been my two top loves. Everyone thought it strange, even me. But, I understand now. Thank you! You are so good at analyzing and there's not a mean or petty thought in your head. You truly love music and doing what you are doing and it shines through. Your animated face and the expressive eyes (and eyebrows, love them) makes you very special and unique. Thank you again. I am such a fan! ❤️
Evanescence did a whole orchestral live dvd of their album Synthesis that’s all on UA-cam with some really good reimagined versions of their classic songs including this one! I highly suggest checking anything from that performance out to really see her live capabilities whether it be as a video or on your own time it’s really quite the experience c:
When ever I watch these sort of reaction videos for EV (where a singer or vocal coach is doing the reacting), my first thought is.. Why aren't they reacting to the Synthesis Live DVD performances??? Never Go Back and End of the Dream (Not exclusively, but especially from the DVD) are fantastic examples of her vocals and I want to hear what they have to say about her technique and vocal abilities on THAT as opposed to the perfected studio recording. That being said, this reaction video was extremely enjoyable.. I just wish the live vocals would get more love in these sort of videos! :)
The opening musical notes are so amazingly beautiful and haunting. Bringing out a deep seated existential cry for help. Like begging for meaning in a meaningless world..
As a choir kid in high school, Evanescence was my favorite band to sing along to. I couldn't hit her low notes, but, man, I could nail those high notes.
I would recommend that you check out Amy Lee singing this song with the Wagakki Band they play traditional Japanese and modern instruments. They also have a orchestra playing with them
One of my fave duets is Pink and Nate Ruess - Just Give Me A Reason. Something relatable in the lyrics and delivery when I first heard it that pulled my heart
My son is 19 now and wherever Evanescence is on the radio when we are in the car he says "I will always associate Amy Lee's voice with spending time with you in the car". Now he's abroad and listening to Evanescence makes me miss the car rides with the kids! Music definitely connects people and it deserves these break downs that create a dialogue! 💞
I absolutely love the fact that the last time I watched your channel it was Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma and today it's Evanescence! This has always been the dichotomy of my musical universe - I love classical music as much as really edgy contemporary nu-metal! Love it, so glad to discover I'm not alone in that. Thank you.
her voice in the beginning cuts my heart so fucking easily I swear it can cut through dimonds... Amy Lee has got to have one of the most enchanting and hauntingly beautiful voices a human has ever possessed. and her control over it is phenomenal. I must have heard that intro a million times ever since it came out and STILL it feels fresh and surprising every single time I listen to it again... she is not one in a century. Amy Lee is one in a humanity.

At least remember the pitches tones, rhythm and style of voice during the song, if you constantly pause through the song you will get 20 times less views
Oh, I’m looking forward to this! I can heartily recommend the version from the Synthesis Live concert (with orchestra!), but especially from that concert, look at The End of the Dream, which is a gorgeous song about which Amy said that you need 2 pairs of lungs to bring it live, and she wouldn’t be able to do it live, but in this concert she does!
Never one to comment on many UA-cam videos but seeing you breakdown songs for their lyrics has given me such appreciation for singers and the nuances that is involved with it. A musician myself and have a few recorded songs from my earlier days, but never really saw how in depth vocals can be into the song writing process. Appreciate your breakdowns and knowledge from that perspective
@@Meatball2022 Amy has always wanted to Produce soundtrack for movies and films it has always been a goal for her which she's acheived over and over again many times WOOHOO
we all loved this back then, it was on heavy rotation on mtv. legendary song. suggestions: "amorphis - amongst stars" ( tommi has one of the best clear voices and is maybe the best growler in metal. and anneke is featured) "ayreon - eye of ra" (live) (with the fantastic damian wilson, the jansen sisters and an awesome finale). greetings and love from germany.
I hate to be the one to tell you, but Fallen is not their first album. It is their first Studio album though. They made a Demo album named Origin. There might be some stuff on it you like. It's probably not hard to find online somewhere for you to listen.
@@tyalmonivol2765 It is their first full album. Your splitting hairs and being over-technical about something trivial... I bet your loads of fun at parties...
Cowboys was one of the best metal albums of all time. It's up there with "...And Justice for all" and "Rust in piece". Start to finish, every second of awesomeness.
@@luket1011 Origin was a full album. And there was no reason to reply so immaturely. There was also sound asleep i believe. So two albums I think before fallen. Fallen was just their first studio album. Or on a record label. With your arrogance im sure you're really the life of the party🙄🙄
I still remember the first time I heard this song. I just remember thinking "WHAT is this?" I had never been so captivated by a song. It was the first time I heard something so elegant/beautiful mix so well with something so hard/modern. It's like they shouldn't be allowed to coexist, but they do. And the lyrics, man. It really draws you into the story.
I listened to this song soooo many times back in the day! Great pick and reaction! I'd love to see your reaction to My Immortal from Evanescence as well! As much as I love this song, My Immortal really shows off Amy Lee's voice as the center piece.
Hi Elizabeth, only recently discovered your channel via 'Disturbed' when you reveiwed 'The sound of silence' which you did an amazing job on, now my feed shows me more of your work... you have so woken me to things i really never realised with how songs are structured, how the voice can manipulate the intent of the lyrics.... i was naive to think it was just how the artists would sing the lyrics, you are amazing on how you break down each part for people like myself who simply do not realise or understand the influence of what we listen to and enjoy.... Thank you for doing your reveiws and educating me.... Awesome job.... from the UK.
7:50 that's something I love about evanescence that's really progressed and changed, yet been very unique about their music and Amy lees actual recording style, is that she's very good at harmonies, and her own kind of backing vocals that are almost their own entire song. It adds such a nice element to her songs in my opinion. She's also very good at ambiance in her vocals, with drawn out nearly whispered vocals ending songs, sometimes even using literally just an exhale as a lyric, like in the song "yeah right" off of their album "the bitter truth" as well as a few covers of songs she's done solo. Not to mention her ability to make simple "oohs" and "ahhs" sound completely other worldly, there's some songs I couldn't imagine without them because they have such an angelic haunting quality. There's even a live performance of "even in death" I believe, where she has a special intro she played at the show that really showcases that ability
my first contact with Evanescence... my girlfriend (now my wife) and me we were totally blown away when we heard it the first time...i think we heard this song a thousand times and it is still incredible...
Amy Lee has said that this is her least favorite version of this song. She was not in favor of the male vocalist part, but the record company insisted on it. I, for one, am glad they did.
Yep the record company actually wanted male vocal on the full album, but she said no and eventually they agreed to sign them if they have it on just this one track.
yes she didnt liked it but for me as a new metal kid back then it was/is the best that could ever happen :D and with that song i found 12 Stones and they are such a great band
@@brentjohnson7044 Or maybe they just don't care about an objective "best" version of a song, they just want to do what they feel, this one is really personal... It's hard to picture what it would have sounded like with only her voice.
I didn't see anyone mention it but the male vocalist is Paul McCoy from 12 Stones. Not the biggest band but they were on the radio a lot when I was younger.
This lady had no idea who Amy Lee or Evanescence was, Grammy for best rock song and best new artist, my kid wasnt born yet and he's a fan..so trust me, she doesnt know Bennington
The first time I heard this song was when watching Daredevil in the theatre. I turned to my buddy and said "this song will be in the top five this month." Between the generally relatable lyrics, her unbelievable voice, and his perfectly matched voice the song is just amazing.
It's amazing how much I learn from you about songs I have listened to for so long. This song, and many of the others you have reacted to -- Tool, Rush Soundgarden to name a few -- have been pretty much daily listens for me for years, and you have opened my ears to not only understand better the appeal of these songs, but also to hear the truth of the mastery in these performers. Thank you!
The amount of Evanescence songs that you can react to are insane. Hello, Imaginary, Good Enough, Call Me When You're Sober, Going Under. The list just goes on
I'm singing this song in my band, with no piano or synth, but still, it has sooo energy, full sound and collaboration with the male voice. Amy is untoppable in this song.
Amy has a song that ties to this one. In "Going Under" the lines "Don't want your hand this time, I'll save myself. Maybe I'll wake up for once" refer to the scenes where he reaches out to pull her up.
Amy Lee is one of the most important female artists of this century so far. She was instrumental in paving the way for female vocalists in metal. Today it seems normal, but back then it was not. She had to fight very hard to prove record execs wrong. And she did just that.
I love how it feels like you're in a dark house with many rooms and each time something changes in the song it's as if you enter a new room and the lights go on. You're reactions are always so pure, so deep, it's refreshing to see you go from pro reactor to "fangirl" (hope that's not offensive ). It's why I keep coming back to this channel.
I feel truly blessed to be old enough to remember were I was the 1st time One Step Closer was played here in Orlando when it was brand new! Greatest singer of our generation. Post Chris Cornell era I mean.
omg, totally agree! chester always deserves all the love. especially now. I want everyone to discover and appreciate him to help keep his legacy alive.
It's one of those things that gets over looked. She'll some times sing 4 or 5 different back grounds. She said she did it when they band first started out because they didn't have a ton of money to hire people. It worked so well she still does it today. Imaginary would be another great one for her singing background that most people miss. They think it's a great song. Amy made it great by all the multi tracking of her voice. It really made the song stand out.
If you're looking to do more Evanescence I'd heartily recommend Lithium. Probably not as well known as My Immortal but I think it's a better one for a reaction because of it. And I'd say it's more vocally varied too. Also if you're looking for something with more of that male/female contrast, from a much more metal side of things I can recommend In Flames - Dead End.
Amy Lee was the answer to the question which plagued me 20 years ago. "What will I do when Ann Wilson stops singing? Who could possibly pick up her mantle?" Thankfully along came Amy with her absolutely beautiful voice. I can listen to her sing all day long and NEVER tire of it.
I'm a little late to the party, but there's a series of UA-cam videos where various rock notables (Dee Snyder, Gene Simmons, etc.) react to songs by Ann Wilson, Amy Lee, etc. The mutual admiration is mind-blowing!
The more popular songs are nice, but there's a few that have stolen my heart for ever. Imaginary, Tourniquet, and Anywhere are a few of my absolute favourites. I struggled with suicidal thoughts when I was a kid and all through my teenage years, less now that I have children and couldn't fathom leaving them, but I still have my dark days. Evanescence has always been a great help in relieving my pain.
The animation that this lady brings to her analysis is really soothing. Came here for her Alice in Chains review and now going through them all. Just found this channel and really like it!
if you liked this one, try the band within temptation... pretty much anything from them. lead singer is opera trained. song titled "mother earth" also has choir and symphony elements to it as well. really great song. favorite from them is "stand my ground".
_Bring Me to Life_ was the first _Evanescence_ song I heard on the radio and I was blown away by it. I bought the album the next day. So I guess the studio was right. I can't imagine it with only Amy singing all of that because there are overlapping vocal parts and the exchange between them seems important to the vibe of the song. I have not heard the version without the male vocal parts, but I'm not sure I want to. It would only be for the purpose of hearing it the way Amy wanted it. I'm sure it's great in its own rite. All that said, the band itself are all great musicians and the song arrangements are amazing. I've always been a fan.
I finally figured it out! I'm not a singer (terrible in fact), and am only a passable bass player, so why do I love your videos so much? 3 reasons. 1: I'm a nerd and love learning new things, and you're a good teacher. 2: freudenfreude. The joy in seeing you experience and love what I have. It's awesome to see you experience that joy that we did when we heard this a long time ago. 3: validation. I knew the song was awesome. You just give words to why I loved it. Thank you!
You would love the performance of "good enough" which she did at steinway hall in the run up to the Synthesis tour, just a brilliant vocal and piano rendition. I think it's Amy Lee at her best. You should also check out any of the synthesis live performances, played with a full orchestra, and a different orchestra at each venue. Love all your vids, it's a great showcase for artists I've not heard of. Thank you!
Evanescence is on my bucket list of bands to see. I love Amy Lee's voice. I never knew this was a love song, but thinking about the lyrics, it makes total sense. People are saying "My Immortal" is their favorite and I can totally see why, but I've particularly been drawn to "Everybody's Fool". There's just something about it.
They are incredible live. The energy is great because they go through all their eras and from current to mainstream. Great light show, costume changes and supporting acts too. Lee also supports lots of female acts, as well, so it’s very emotive to experience and cool, if you were too young to see them when you were 13 (like me).
I tend to agree with you... I'm yet to find a "bad" recording of Amy Lee. "Perfect imperfection" dragged me back in after a while of forgetting about her (sorry Amy) but I keep coming back for "Everybody's fool"
Bit what's the meaning of Bring Me To Life? It was written in the wake of a bad relationship “This song was actually written about my now-husband. I’d been in a really bad, abusive relationship, which had been very difficult for a long time. I thought that I was doing a pretty good job of pretending I was OK, but Josh [Hartzler, Amy’s husband], this guy that I didn’t know really well but I liked a lot, we went into a restaurant while my bandmembers were parking the car. When we sat down, he looked at me right in the eyes, and said, ‘Are you happy?’ It just caught me really off guard. I felt very exposed, but it felt good at the same time - like he could see me. ‘How can you see into my eyes like open doors?’” I wasn’t prepared for it blowing up “We went through a lot. That time was such a whirlwind of high highs and low lows for me. There was definitely some difficult stuff going on in the band, but at the same time, all these wonderful things were also happening, like the fact that we were getting to record in a real studio, and then we were nominated for a Grammy! There was a lot of happiness there. But, I was 21 years old, and I don’t think it matters how old you are - there’s no way to be prepared for it. There were a lot of difficulties in adjusting my life to that big change.” www.loudersound.com/features/the-story-behind-bring-me-to-life-by-evanescence
How nice to get a reaction from somebody who understands that Amy wasn't just born with that voice. God gave her the raw materials but it takes a lot of hard work to learn to sing like that.

Thankfully Elizabeth shares herself wonderfully in her reaction videos. ;-)
She does that on purpose, yo.

110% agree. I really hope she gets to react to it. Especially when they both belt together
"My Immortal" would be a better showcase of her voice... in my opinion. Also .. I enjoy watching your love of the great performances that have been presented to you... it is very endearing. I watch your facial expressions more than any of the videos you showcase .. LOL.
My Immortal for sure! Never really liked Bring Me To Life all that much
I don't ever comment on YT videos, but I came to say this exact thing. The live version of My Immortal on the Evanesence channel is just something else. Would really love to see a reaction to her live vocals on that track.
Definitely a better song for showcasing her vocals. It's very haunting.
My Immortal and Going Under were my favorites
Agree'd!! My Immortal is such a beautiful showcase of Amy Lee!
One of the most underrated female vocalist. Powerful.
Amy lee has such an angelic voice, it brings me to tears, especially in “my immortal”
Amy Lee is an incredible singer I love me some Amy Lee I had the opportunity to meet her at a concert and get my hug and picture with the band
Lucky shit, excuse the expletive
Amy Lee mother of ghotic
YES! My Immortal keeps me in goosebumps the entire time. It’s freaking beyond amazing!!!!!
For me Hello is another angelic voice of her 😘😘
Most people don't give the male vocalist enough credit... Paul McCoy of 12 Stones does an amazing performance here too. He is amazing in his own right
12 stones was a flash in the pan I believe (only 1 album?) but they were one of my favorite early 2000's bands along with Evanescence and Linkin Park
12 Stones have had 5 albums
@@brianhedley5139 wow! Going to have to look them up! Totally lost track of them
Only their first album is worth listening, it's great
@@51-73-i6w I'd argue the first 3 albums from 12 Stones, but I think that's only because I think those things have aged like fine wine.
Lithium is a damned good one, and I’d also recommend Hello.
Still get chills when I hear it.
Very expressive face. I love how ensconced she gets in the music.
Nailed it lol Disney princess brought to life, gives Amy Adams a run for her money
Expecting a bluebird to appear on her shoulder lol
really reminds me of emilia clarke's expressions
I love how when she speaks there's a bubbly happiness in her voice, it almost makes me feel that too.
Also those dudes should probably help him pull her in, they're no help at all, just playing AWESOME music and such!
You should review "Lithium" by Evanescence. Masterpiece.
Lithium. Absolute agreement Brian.
Hello is an amazing song. That would be a great review
Yes my favorite!

@Sir Reginald I also read it somewhere. Is there any truth to it?

This song was included the Daredevil movie soundtrack, so I think that the ambient sounds we hear in the video might also be alluding to the heightened sense of sound the blind hero has, so those sounds are what he experiences when out hero-ing
Yeah the sirens and such are the ambience of hells kitchen in Daredevil, when he's listening on the rooftops at night.
The whole first album is just another level. Shes honestly one of the best singers, I've loved her forever
Fun fact, this is from their second album. The first album had another vocalist who did some backups who left prior to their commercial success

Huh had no idea they were on Evanescence 3.0. Neat fact, thanks.
The male voice is Paul McCoy, lead singer of 12 Stones, an already established band at the time
I think the male voice adds a lot. Her voice is completely the soul of the song but the male voice complements it nicely
@@Dahmac I agree, the male voice version sounds best, I have heard both. The back and forth exchange in that song is best. Sorry Amy.
honestly the male voice added a lot to this song...this is a rock/metal band after all? So, his voice/screams fits perfectly
Holy cow, she’s pretty.

The combination of her voice and the early 2000's Numetal sound was certainly unique. Glad you enjoyed the music of my people!

Lacrymosa is my favourite Evanescence song, and it’s one of their most underrated. It’s always nice to see someone else appreciate it. Because most people don’t even know it exists- it wasn’t one of the massive hits.

This song is one of a few that literally touches my soul. The entry music and her voice fading in gives me goosebumps.
I recommend “Break In” by Lizzy Hale ft. Amy Lee....very different voice types but they blend beautifully.
Agreed
Yeas!!!!!
agree i also love Lzzy Hale voice
Omg I’m gonna say that. But already seeing someone say it in the top comment
Totally agree!!!!
Of course, most of that stuff would have been before you were paying attention to music, so that is understandable (not trying to be condescending, just noticed you would have been around 7 when this came out)
Lol, opera rock with other genres began in the 1970s, children.
Queen.
Recently discovered this channel and its infectious how passionate you talk about the songs you're reviewing
Your eyes dance when you're really into a piece of music. Love it!
Sad fact though, the band didn't want the male vocalist in the song, they were forced by the label to add him and the rapping as they didn't believe a band with only a female vocalist could be big (clearly forgetting bands like Heart). Amy Lee said she cried a lot over what they did to the song. I always really liked that part of the song though, so I was sad when I found that out
Lacuna Coil too.
Bruh the male vocalist was amazing. Perfect balance to high pitchy voice
The Rapping part actually put me off, when i heard it
@@bactrosaurus Same, I used to be able to hit those notes as a kid, and it always put me out when the rapping part came in because it was just too different.
I'm glad they've made alternate versions more recently without the rapping.
After rap blew up in the 90s there followed a decade or so where so. many. songs had rappers added to them unnecessarily. It has aged very badly even though I love rap.
Love Amy’s voice. She has such interesting style. She slides in and out of her vocal power in an interesting way. She also hits the notes like a laser
You're a joy to watch... like an innocent princess experiencing all these things for the first time.
I think you need to look at Wicked Games by Rick Isaac
Amy Lee is amazing, saw them in concert in 2022, loved it!!
I love Amy's long note at the end. You can hear the pain in her voice.Give me goosebumbs everytime.
She has a very powerful voice. Still today... I will always remember her show ... this song brings shivers down the spine.

Very similar for me and my son. I use this song as my ringtone for him.
That's what I tell my mom about Jim Croce ❤

The “don’t make me die here” is actually Amy using her lower voice. Not the guest vocalist.
Appreciate your breakdowns and knowledge from that perspective
Most of the "ambient" sounds you refer to are for the video only. The actual track doesn't include them.

Mother Earth is always the first song I recommend to introduce people to Within Temptation. It never fails.

Amy Lee has said that this is her least favorite version of this song. She was not in favor of the male vocalist part, but the record company insisted on it. I, for one, am glad they did.
She had to fight them quite a bit early on before she was able to get creative freedom.
Sometimes artists are too close to their own work, and carry too much associated baggage, to appreciate what others can see or hear.
@@brentjohnson7044 Or maybe they just don't care about an objective "best" version of a song, they just want to do what they feel, this one is really personal... It's hard to picture what it would have sounded like with only her voice.

I don’t know any guy in high school that didn’t love evanescence, good female artists have always had strong followings

Thanks ever so much for your analysis! Beautiful song and production♥️
More Evanescence please. On the harmonies, you’ll find from Evanescence later tracks that Amy is the queen of harmonising with herself.
"Good Enough" is simply an amazing song (and video).
Couldn't agree more.
Yesss I love lithium too, my immortals good but by far not best to show Amy’s vocals, good enough is amazing too
Yesss I can't believe how many people are suggesting Lithium, it's always been my favorite!
Amy is pretty at everything! falling, standing, sleeping, eating... everything! She's stunningly beautiful
The Synthesis version has just her solo. It is a very different arrangement so you might like it
I finally figured it out!
Thank you!
Next one by Evanescence really needs to be My Immortal because that song truly is immortal! A masterpiece you surely will love to hear again.
Thank you!
Great love song and story in advance of Valentine's Day. Thank you, Elizabeth.♥
Definitely go if you get the chance!
I tend to agree with you... I'm yet to find a "bad" recording of Amy Lee.
"Perfect imperfection" dragged me back in after a while of forgetting about her (sorry Amy) but I keep coming back for "Everybody's fool"
You have a Disney princess look and its just awesome. Love how passionate you are about vocals and the reactions just show every bit of it.
Bit what's the meaning of Bring Me To Life?
It was written in the wake of a bad relationship
“This song was actually written about my now-husband. ‘How can you see into my eyes like open doors?’”
I wasn’t prepared for it blowing up
“We went through a lot. There were a lot of difficulties in adjusting my life to that big change.”

This was the best part of “Daredevil” and a huge part of my teenage years.
For me too! I know that movie is cheesy as hell lol But I still love it
Fuck yeah best intro ever
How nice to get a reaction from somebody who understands that Amy wasn't just born with that voice. God gave her the raw materials but it takes a lot of hard work to learn to sing like that.
I love your joy when you listen to these great lyrics sang by talented vocalists.. you just smile and laugh your way through this…
I would love to hear YOU sing this song. It's great hearing your take on various songs, but sometimes I wonder what you would sound like singing them.
The collaboration of Amy Lee with Wagakki Band was AMAZING!!!! Backed with a full-size orchestra.
It was my Daughter's choice for Love theme Solo Senior Hutchinson Parks & HFSA skating show, circa 2013.
It's somewhere on youtube, the videographer boyfriend went on to formal videography education.
