For waterproof mascaras, which stick to the curler, yes they will break. You'll even have a hard time removing the curler from your lashes. Regular mascara is not as sticky, so that's probably what she used.

In Chile I always use a spoon before mascara ... First I heat the edge of The spoon with a lighter and then I curl my lashes when it's warm :) There's always a baby spoon o tea spoon in my purse ... Saludos desde Chile, sorry My english is not so good!

Using a folded paper with a semi circle in the end to "connect" with your eye is better and more helpful for me , but it's a good trick too ☺️
