We appreciate your business!
My wife bought me this as a birthday present. What I really wanted was a Doxa. To her, it was an orange dial dive watch and they all look the same. I couldn't be happier with this watch or her statement. After owning both the Certina is better.
What an awesome gift!
Bless, its certainly a great watch,
Which Doxa? What about the Certina do you think is better? I’ve got my eye on a Sub 300 but I’m also interested in the Certina as well as the Sinn 556 in Carnelian Red.. I’m always interested in people’s feedback to weigh my choices with.
@pbbbht It's the purpose built design of the watch. It has a Nivichron balance spring, making it antimagnetic, the gasket system (the whole DS=double security) the way you can't actuate the bezel bt accident it has to be turned with intent. For me it's a better watch for far less. The Doxa IMO has rested on its heritage and done nothing to improve or improve its tech inside the watch.
As a Sinn owner check put damasko dc56 line. It's kinda the same thing. Some brands use innovative technology to improve their products, and other just roll with what's worked for them.
@@GalaxysGreatestDad Thanks for the thoughtful feedback!
I really don’t understand why Certina doesn’t get more recognition from the watch community. This (as well as most of the other models from Certina) seems like a spec monster, especially at the price.
Same. I've heard about Certina as a respectable brand ever since I was kid, long before I've got into watch collecting, but it's actually hard to find any news on Certina watches on YT channels, and I also don't understand why. On my "shopping list" these days I've got two Certina watches (which is rare, since I tend to not overextend my budget): DS-1 Powermatic 80 Big Date (because this watch is all-dial, and this fume, dark blue version is beautiful) and DS + Urban/Heritage kit (because of the whole idea of being able to swap not only straps, but also cases "on the fly"). They are reasonably priced, too, oscillating around same point as some comparable Tissot watches, for example.
@@daniellehotsky1776 So it seems that way... I'm from Poland, born in the late 70s, so still during communist oppression, but Certina had a very good reputation among Poles long before that even happened. Then, after quartz and electronic watches became a thing, people moved to that cheap segment, since the country became really poor, due to what Soviets did to it. I remember times, when only brands like Vostok and Poljot were available, if you wanted to buy an automatic watch, though if you would to ask an average guy on a street (not a watch hobbyist), I'm fairly sure most would recognize brands like Certina or Doxa. Not to mention Omega or Rolex, because these are "big players" everyone knows, and of course Patek Philippe, since that company was originally founded by a polish watchmaker, Antoni Patek.
Nowadays most regular people in Poland still won't be able to afford a watch from Omega or PP, but there's a lot of mid-range brands, even swiss, that are readily available at affordable prices. It's not a problem to buy, say a Tissot watch, though brands like Certina, Bulova, Hamilton, Doxa et c. are typically more to be seen in polish online stores, rather than regular jewellery stores.
What's funny, Poland also has its own watchmaking brands, ranging from affordable to quite expensive, like Błonie, Xicorr, Balticus (not to be confused with Baltic) or Polpora, yet I believe they remain almost completely unknown to the rest of the world...
The band is on, Congratulations Ted, wishing you trillion of time ticking rounds in your new commitment!!
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BOTH OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the blue dial version. Absolutely superb watch and because of its certification and competitive price, this has to be a much better solution than a Submariner. I wholly recommend Certina watches!
I bought one of these a year and a half ago when they came out because I was STUNNED by the design!
It is ALWAYS a conversation starter because everyone is familiar with the Swatch group watches, but many are unfamiliar with Certina.
Amazing watch, I have scratched it to shit and it still looks/ feels like a $2000+ watch 😍
Superb review 👍
I own about 5 Certinas and own 50plus watches.
I’ve got to say i was blown away by the quality of the brand, my 500m and 1000m are superbly built and the rich history of the Tektite experiment gives them substance.
A bargain just remember it does wear substantial imo even on a 7.5” wrist
Got one of these at 35% off from a local AD recently. It’s a fantastic watch - put mine on a dark blue Isofrane strap and it looks awesome.
Bought my wife a Certina lady diver COSC certified quartz for valentine and now i want one. Am torn between the PH500 and PH1000 and trying both this week.
I just bought one at your store! And I can't wait to see it in person.
For me Certina keeps the "European Watch Charm" better that anyone else.
They not spent in Marketing
I rate Certina with Longiness and MIDO
I just receive the DS special edition in green dial, stinning ❤
Now I will pull the trigger on this one ❤️
Christmas present from my wife ( I told her that I really love that watch )......It is a very beautiful watch, very comfortable and out of my collection of 26 pieces, this Certina is the most precise.....extremly precise !!!
As a side not for those shopping this in the future. Uncle Seikos Smp 300 bracelets fit this case shape perfectly. I wear mine on his Holzer style.
Good tip, thanks!
I've own one about 2 years now and it's one of the few watches that I own, I would call a true dive watch . Others being 2 Pelagoses and a Sinn.
great taste
Interestingly the Certina CS told me that the 14 sided ring, much like on the vintage original, does serve the purpose of keeping the bezel in place. The ring is screwed on the actual case, on top of the bezel and sort of acts as a stopper and in doing so makes it a captive bezel, kind of like with Sinn dive watches.
It doesn’t hold the crystal in place anymore though as the modern methods of attaching a crystal to a case are superior.
So it not only is a nod to history and looks cool, it actually serves a purpose.
Certina basically created the perfect actual diving watch for under 1k in my eyes.
As a Zenith fan, I have to say this is a beautiful piece and doesn’t wear like a watch of its size. Very comfortable and for the price, can’t be beat. Not sure why these don’t get more attention. Got my second hand and couldn’t be happier
Certina has so many great diver's watches. The history and heritage with this PH500m is absolutely incredible, with the Tektite experiments. They are real ISO certified diver's, rated to 500m without an helium escape valve (which is incredible in its own right). And we need to keep in mind that with the ISO certification watches are tested to 25% more than their claimed rating - which means that this watch was tested to 625m. They even give you a card with the certification, where this statement is written. Their DS tech or concept is incredible. I myself own a DS Action Diver 38mm (it is an ISO certified diver rated to 300m (then again tested to 25% more), on a 38mm case - and that's completely crazy). Some people call them the G-Shock of the mechanical watch world and I kinda agree - they are certainly aome of the most robust and durable mechanical watches out there. In terms of water resistance, robustness and real ISO certifications they are offering something that not even luxury watches do. Unfortunately I'm not sure if those things matter for the general public - it certainly doesn't, because the brand should be way more known. It is an underdog and an understated brand. One of those: if you know, you know.
DAMN YOU TEDDY BALDASSARRE!!!😊 You and all of these fantastic watch reviews. Because of you, I had to buy a Certina DS Super PH1000.
CAN’T WAIT FOR IT TO ARRIVE!
Keep doing what you’re doing!!!
It took a while to settle on my "beater" and this watch (the Sea Turtle Conservancy model in blue-orange) was it. Threw mine on tropic rubber and had a blast with it on my latest beach vacation.
Devil diver competition. It's nice. The only thing that ever put me off Certina is the confusion I used to have with the brand Festina (a bit trashy/fashion-y)
Great video Teddy. And congrats on the Certina US authoriation. I think you might be the only one-unless something has changed? And cool watch/history. I like the story and the build. Of all my swatch group dive watches, and countles other dive watches I own, my 43mm DS Action Diver (Blue Dial), with on the fly deployent clasp, Powermatic 80, and 13mm case, is by far the best and most capable, Swiss dive watch under 1000, I own. Mido is right up there too, especially the true GMT. You would have to spend over 1000 to get a comparable Seiko.
This is a lot of watch for under $1K. Impressive.
Completely agree!
I got this watch for about $800 and it´s a favorite of mine. Certina has always been big in Sweden but for some watch entusiasts a too common choice. I always had a Certina since the 80s.
I love my Certina watches (oldest one being 30 years old, got it when I was 14). Amazing stuff and I'm actually planning on getting the PH500M.
Weirds me out that they're not "common" in the US.
Hopefully we see that start to change
You guys in the us are really missing out on Certina. Id say the brand is less known bc they dont have aggressive marketing ar all.
I love my Certinas, great brand!
Absolutely agree!
Excellent review and I would love to get a Certina in the future. I'm curious why you haven't made any Doxa reviews.
On this channel we only cover watches that we carry in our online store TeddyBaldassarre.com We have covered Doxa a few times over on our main channel though!
@@TeddyBaldassarreReviews Nice, I didn't even know there were two channels.
I would like you to make a review about the new Longines Conquest
Good video. Nice watch. Unnecessary for me since I don't dive either but it would look great on my wrist.
Fair enough! Thanks for watching
Did you see new Longines? Very good looking don't miss them.
I love my Certina ds-3 1000 m.
Teddy I know that you’re not an authorized dealer of CW watches, because none is actually, but I really need a video with your style about the C60 Trident pro (the regular version and the new Atoll), the Dune and the Aquitaine. Please!!! 🙏🏼
love this watch but i think i will go for the scurfa diver one stainless steel with the gloss orange dial because it looks exatly the same and you get that robust quartz movement for under 300 dollars!
I have two Certinas, a DS Chronograph and this DS Super PH500M but with the black dial. Not as well known as Tissot but still very closely related, same movement base and around the same price point, although I have been told that Certina watches are better finished in general (inside and out, and easier to work on) than Tissot. In any case, I don't think you've ever touched on Certina as a brand in one of your videos with Kevin O'Leary. I'd be really interested to know what he thinks of the brand as opposed to Tissot, a brand he seems to be really familiar with. Just a suggestion 😉
YES! I am a Certina fan as well and would love to hear what Kevin has to say about the brand (if he is even aware of its value).
Doxa 200 vs certina ph500?
Depending on what you are looking for an argument can be made for both. The Doxa Sub 200 has more color choice as well as a slimmer overall form while the Certina is a more technical diver with slightly better capabilities.
Teddy could you please review the Certina DS Action Day/Date. Im looking at it as a GADA Aqua Terra alternative.
You seem to be the only major watch reviewer who is paying attention to Certina. Thank you!
I own the black "original" version. It is very wearable, great history and fun bezel (not very pleasant to use unfortunately). Timekeeping is Metas levels. I cannot fall for it because, and it might be me, I can't help but feeling the polishing is not very high level, I don't see the difference with an Orient for example, and a CW offering a much better feel. I paid less than 600 for it and at that price it is prob unbelievable. But we all know we get a bit desensitized to price and when I wear it I'm just not blown away. So I rather put the half grand towards something else. If that's your max budget though? A no brainer.
Are you sure that the faceted steel ring around the crystal is only a homage to the original design and it is not an actual screw-down nut to hold the crystal, like the original design also used to be?
what about squale ? squale matic and 1521 are awesome.....and they have a rich history too
Does that ring around the crystal turn as I’ve seen many ph500’s with a misalignment ?
Most people have no understanding of what 500 meters water resistant is. People don’t dive near that deep. Pretty much pointless.
All these affordable Swatch Group watches using the same movement, gotta ask how serviceable they are.
Certina is too slept on. Great watch.
Absolutely agree! They make a fantastic watch for the price point.
Great watch, but the polished case really doesn’t make sense. They should sandblast that sucker. Well, at least brush the sides. 😅
am tempted with this but too big for my 7 inch wrist? would appreciate any comments from anyone with a 7 inch wrist who has this watch! cheers!
I have just over a 7 inch wrist and it wears great. Because of the lug to lug at 48mm it really compacts the watch👍🏻 I wear this as my everyday ride or die type of watch.
To me, it's just another Swatch watch
I will never understand why a dedicated dive watch is designed with no crown guards. Their other DS watched got guards tho.
They kept the original 60s design, so in that time, that feature was not so popular in the most dive watches. Don't forget this watch is a re-edition of the original one.
@@aaronj.martinleon2733 thanks yeah makes more sense if they going for exact replica, it just makes it a no go for me. I appreciate the clarification 😊
