Why not go deep into history & review from 1930s, 1940s - movies like Duniya na mane, Kismat, Andaz (Dilip, Raj, Nargis) & then move forwards. That would be real tribute to Hindi cinema. 1994 is still relatively fresh. Then, there's a Hindi dubbed version of Sanskrit movie - Adi Shankaracharya (Sarvdaman Banerjee) - see it - its an experience beyond any movie ever made. That "sholay picture dekhi hai" moment was such a genius, initially it felt funny only because amar, prem ke baap pe gya, but the second u realise, oh shit, salmans father did write sholay, you cant help but applaud the breaking of the fourth wall trope. Genius!!
The beauty of AAA is it was clean comedy with the punch lines one can die for... Every character of this movie is remembered even today just like 'Sholey'. Even one can remember batla danney chaiwala... The the secret of AAA's longevity for the masses. I've a friend who can tell the story of AAA with the complete dailogue & acting you feel that you are watching the movie live, that's the best compliment AAA got from his admirers even today... Lol true. Great that she's trying to link alot but i don't think ppl watched friends and senfield and only then appreciated andaz. Just that different serious movies were releasing and this one just came and went. It's a nice fun movie to watch at home multiple times than watch in theatre once
He was way ahead of his times when he made AAA, remember this movie being played in a theater near my house in Bombay back then. As a 18 year old., I watched this movie with my brother and our mutual friends, came home and could not stop raving about the whole movie. Santoshi saahab well and truly a visionary of our times(DAMINI is yet another example)

I was 14 when andaz apna apna released and I remember watching it in VHS (we had a direct VHS release that time) and absolutely loving it. I didn't need Friend or Seinfeld (which are great shows btw) as reference point to love to Andaz apna apna. it's a movie that ages very well. recently saw it with my 8 year old and she absolutely loved it.
Watch original - Nadiya ke Paar. It's still iconic as its so true to its roots. Even DDLJ & KKHH to me haven't aged well (I watched both 6-7 times in theatre). Enjoy Nadiya ke paar more than these movies now a days. So, may be that's why Panchayat works - authenticity.

The other day I was watching it for the Nth time and then thought it would be good to watch it together with my 9 year old daughter. Then I watched it as a mom and decided it was better not to introduce the movie to her and instead let her listen to the iconic songs.

Andaz apna apna was the first movie I saw with my friends. And first ever first day first show. I was around 12. I never in my life laughed so hard. I don’t agree with ur american sitcom theory. Indian cinema have had some fairly complex story telling in past for comic movies. For eg. angoor.
I did actually watch the movie in the first week of it's release at Deccan theatre, Pune. I was 13 then. I felt AAA was very hilarious then. It still is. Anyone else saw the movie in the 1st week?

Sucharita ji. I am that guy who watched this movie in Metro Cinema and I tell you the theater was empty but I laughed my lungs out and I liked the movie so much that i watched all 3 shows on the same day... 3 to 6...6 to 9...9 to 12.. not bluffing. Not lying.. I m so proud of that act of me because whoever I asked about this movie after watching it, nobody knew about the movie at all but the movie is now called a classic ..I m now 40 years old. I was 15 then . Studying in FYJC .. living in a student hostel. Such a nostalgia.. I cherish my younger days a lot n AAA is definitely one of the great moments of my young days

Actually, this movie picked up popularity in mid to late 2000's, I was in school at that time, and honestly American sitcoms have nothing to do with its popularity, I saw this movie first time on a private network channel and at that time we didn't even know a single American sitcom, these all sitcom such as FRIENDS, etc pick up popularity in the last five years of the internet.
Paresh Rawal’s ‘Teja’ is the best character. You just feel like giving that guy a hug, because:- 1. Logo uske bhai ko Ram samajhte the aur isse raavan. 2. His dad’s munim bored him to death, so uske patte bicha diye. 3. Mogambo ka gafla kiya so he’s hiding from him. 4. Most importantly, his henchmen- Bhalla & Robert always let him down. ALWAYS. EVERY SINGLE TIME. It makes him cry after every ‘Mere naye plan ke mutaabik..” 5. When he calls for Ransom, even Amar doesn’t take him seriously, “Bolna hai toh bol nahi toh phone rakh raha hu..” He’s like nahi ruk ruk ruk.. 6. Then he demands for 50 lakhs but settles for 7835.29. Damn, imagine the heartache. 7. His very own Robert & Bhalla don’t acknowledge him as Real Teja & say “Ha, mark toh hona chahiye..” Time & again everyone let him down throughout the movie. IMAGINE. So many problems in life. Poor guy.
I never saw Friends or any American sitcom. I was 14 yrs old when AAA released . I clearly remember I went to theatre with friends to watch it . I understood every comic aesthetic , joke , whether subtle or OTT. I remember laughing my ass off the same way I laugh today at those scenes . I can proudly say I’m a 90’s Child and still LOVED the entire movie that time . And this makes me a part of those intelligent group of ppl who understand GOOD n ENTERTAINING cinema ...even at that age....Me with my sister and brother , we used to enact scenes and dialogues of each character . That time there was no social media , no internet, no access to critics or reviews ....just pure n honest reviews from our hearts

AAA was the pulp fiction of bollywood. So many easter eggs! It remains one of those rare movies jisko KISI BHI scene se dekhna shuru kar sakte hain GOGO JI, AAPKA GHAAGHRA😂 PS- can you go back to 70s and review chupke chupke?
For me it’s primarily an example of Comedy of Errors..."Raveena Karishma hai..Karishma Raveena hai","Uncle kaun?!","Teja myay hoon...mark idhar hai"😂But your Chandler-Joey thing seems plausible also.

Well it is one of the greatest or sure. Don't forget Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Katha, Chashme Baddoor, Padosan and at least one of Govinda/David Dhawan combo movies.
Padosan, chashme baddoor, chupke chupke, golmaal, jaane bhi do yaaro. AAA is ONE OF THE BEST but definitely NOT THE BEST. But then again, apni apni (yes, pun intended) choice hai. Important hai k we all love this movie
Bubbly Srinath JBDY is an all time classic. Perhaps the best satire EVER. And yeah, GUNDA and LOHA are hillarious. Yeah, hera pheri is hindi remake of kabira speaking (i think by priyadarshan only) Do find time to watch all these movies. Isnt it ironice that the last great family comedy from bollywood was 20years ago (golmaal 2006 is funny but not in the same league as these classics here)

As a member of audience who is now exposed to great cinema from the West, who loves the new wave of story tellers like Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya, Shujit etc...I often stear clear of 'classic' bollywood films that I loved as a child, but now find them cringeworthy as my sensebilities have changed. But still there are some films(specially Amitabh Bachchan blockbusters) which I enjoy re-watching. However, I was never able to express why I love Andaz Apna Apna so much. But thanks to your amazing and insightful analysis of this movie...now I know why! I love the way you broke down the structure of this movie and so wonderfully explained how it really worked on the audience. Can't wait for more episodes of this series!
The fact that each time u watch, u hear something new... I soo true... Jagdeep saying "Logo ki bolti band hoti hai... Main teri sunti band kar dunga.." got my attention on 50th viewing maybe.. Each character is so well written, even mahmood's character hilarious and upto the mark

Off topic- I recently watched two Assamese movies and in my opinion Hindi movies are nowhere compared to these. 1.Aamis 2. Kothanodi. I was surprised that Kothanodi didn't even get its due credit by mainstream journalism. Such acting! Many years ago I watched Jogwa(Marathi), Kanjeevaram (Tamil) & Adiminite Makan Abu( Malayalam). I really feel regional movies should be highlighted more.. ( that's my 2 cents!)

The film which was filled of so many superb dialoges and witty one lines..the one which stood out for me was...when a punctual ram gopal bajaj has been served tea by robert..and robert stops and asks him.."Sir Shakkar daalne ka time ho gaya??"..😂😂😂😂that for me stole the cake..hilarious..
Reasons Andaz Apna Apna didn't work in 1994- 1.Was supposed to release on 22nd July(Krantiveer released instead)but the release date was then pushed to 23rd Sept(Main Khiladi Tu Anari and The Shawshank redemption release day)then was pushed further to OCT and then finally to 4th Nov... 2.On 4th Nov 1994,released 5 other Major releases,Suhaag,Yaar-Gaddar,Udhaar ki Zindagi,Sardar and Speed... 3.HAHK's Magic was still going on(5th August 1994 released)Nobody was interested in watching a Comedy... 4.Despite being a Flick filled with Huge Stars,there was absolutely no promotion for the Film... 5.People were falling off their seats laughing during trials(70+ trials)but in theaters the audience waa absolutely silent. AAA flopped in Bombay but downsouth it did well and probably in Delhi too,Komal Nahta's Film information called it an average grosser back in 1995 but now even he says that AAA was a Flop,Weird.
It didn't work at the time of its release because it took four years to make and by the time it released it was considered stale. Yes, the irony is not lost on me. Also there was literally nothing like it at the time. The cable scene in India was in its infancy. Compare that to another cult film - Dil Chahta Hai, released in 2001 that too was unique - that film worked because by 2001 Indians had hundreds of national and international channels to watch and liked their content. Sometimes it's all about the timing.
I always had the question as to why a brilliant film like Andaaz Apna Apna didn't work then as the comedy is so universal.. Finally i found a "level headed" explanation...
Those day hero's were taken so seriously and never used to make fun of themselves. The sholay joke was so ahead of its time that people didnt understand ki yeh pop culture reference joke hota kya hai. This was out and out comedy film. Govinda's movie those days were comedy action emotion mixed matlab pakka commercial so thats why it didnt work
I apologize if someone has already made a similar comment that I didn’t catch, but I’m curious if anyone else also sees parallels to another 1994 release: “Dumb and Dumber”. I’m Indian-American and a fan of Indian movies-which is rare, apparently-and so to explain the the enduring appeal of Andaz Apna Apna to others, I often say it’s a bit like if the Farrelly Brothers had written “Dumb and Dumber,” but had Mel Brooks direct it. Both movies are about a pair of friends who, shall we say, aren’t the brightest diyas in the aarti, and get a little in over their heads. It’s not a perfect comparison by any means-Harry and Lloyd are arguably more earnest and well-intentioned than Amar and Prem-but if you’ve seen both movies, you’ll recognize some common plot elements: Kidnapping/hostage-taking, a container of valuables that everyone wants, romantic competition, the main characters irritating the shit out of a henchman, and most memorably (speaking of shit), a toilet scene featuring the more innocent half of the pair falls victim to a laxative-based prank. Yet they’re so distinct in tone that while I might notice their common elements, I never feel like I’m watching two versions of the same movie. TL;DR: Perhaps the biggest similarity between “Andaz Apna Apna” and “Dumb and Dumber” is that they’re both remarkably well-written, well-crafted, and 25+ years later, still well-loved movies about a couple of complete morons. 😆

Those days, new Hindi film used to get released on both VHS and Cinema Hall on the same day. Only thing is VHS use to have advertisements on the bottom banner and also in middle, a couple of scenes and songs cut. After a month an uncut version without Ads use to come back on Cable TV. I remember watching AAA on the same day of release at home. Didn't like it the first time but liked it eventually. Then, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun changed the whole process where new movie got released only in Cinema Halls. Which finally led to piracy.
Rajkumar Santoshi wasn't celebrated enough for his magnificent work, just look at his filmography - Ghayal, ghatak, AAA, Lazza(women centric), Bhagat singh etc

Actually the film didn’t work mainly because it took several years to complete . Raveena and Karishma’s debut movies were just released and they were cast for this one immediately . They weren’t big stars when they signed it . But the movie was just getting delayed year by year . At one point ,there were rumors that the film was shelved . If u remember , in the movie Damini ( in 1993 ,also directed by Raj kumar santoshi) there was a scene where Aamir khan did a special appearance song with Meenakshi sheshadri on stage and after the performance , Rishi kapoor’s friend asks Aamir “ when is AAA releasing”. Aamir says very soon and the friend says “ pls release it sooner “ ....it showed that the audience was eagerly awaiting for the movie but it just kept getting delayed ....and when finally it got released , there was hardly any promotion , the songs had a very retro touch and hence didn’t top up the music charts , half of the audience had lost interest in the film and mainly due to lack of promotion and hype , it failed at the box office ....but whoever saw it , loved it . And then that was the time of VHS tape where we could easily rent the cassette and watch it at home after few months ....it was only Hum aapke hain kaun which stopped the release on VHS tape and forced the audience to throng to cinema halls once again....and rest is history

@sucharita and others at film companion... I do honestly think people discovered the gem that Dil Se was much after its release. I believe Dil se released the same year as ghulam and kuch kuch hota hai which took the cake, but the subtle nuances in the film still stay as relevant. I honestly can go on and on about its intricacies, the characters, the internal conflicts, the very fact that Ratnam was collaborating with Gulzar saab and the hidden subtext of Ghalib's poetry (not just in the satrangi re song but also of the movie depicting the seven stages of love). Of course, it is among the best performances of SRK as well. Would love for you to do a flashback/fc retake on that movie.

A sabbatical..sanju had gone to jail.. Jackie Shroff will soon relegate himself to supporting roles...there was sunny deol and anil kapoor with sunny in the lead with anil giving turkeys like andaz, mr aazad ..salman and aamir were up and coming stars and SRK's ddlj was a year away..this period form 92 to 95 was dominated by madhuri,juhi, amrita Singh Meenakshi who had meatier roles written for them ..that's the whole point which I am trying to make so heroines weren't just arm candies yes new actress's like kajol,karisma,raveena even tabu were running around tress but that too would change in a couple of years with kajol ddlj and karisma rhaa Hindustan...raveena Raman and shool hope this clear things up

देवेन वर्मा , हरीश पटेल , परेश रावल , वीजू खोटे , शक्ति कपूर , शहजाद खान , जावेद खान , महमूद , जगदीप , टीकू तलसानिया के भी पात्र फ़िल्म में यादगार हैं। दरअसल यही सब पात्र फ़िल्म की जान हैं। मुख्य कलाकारों का काम तो साधारण ही है।

I saw this on cable in 1994 and love it since then. So, the "friends" theory is rubbish. The reason of its failure was HAHK. It just got over-powered by a mammoth hit and in those days, hit movies used to be in theaters for months. Had it come 2 years later (DDLJ came in 1995) it would have been a hit.
1994 - Forrest Gump overshadowed The Shawshank Redemption, similarly AAA got overshadowed by HAHK. S... happens. On a sidenote, people rave about 2001 - DCH, Lagaan was a gamechanging year. Yes, it was but I think 1975 - Deewar, Sholay & Chupke chupke changed the direction of Hindi cinema. Similarly, 1994 was one such year - KHKN, AAA, Bandit Queen in same year went on to change everything in later years.... And yes 2018 (though not as big as 1975,1994,2001) was probably a great year in recent times - Andhadhun, Badhai ho, Bhavesh Joshi, Manmarziyan, Tumbbad, Mukkabaz, Zero....

As a 18 year old., I watched this movie with my brother and our mutual friends, came home and could not stop raving about the whole movie. I was 14 when andaz apna apna released and I remember watching it in VHS (we had a direct VHS release that time) and absolutely loving it. I didn't need Friend or Seinfeld (which are great shows btw) as reference point to love to Andaz apna apna. it's a movie that ages very well. recently saw it with my 8 year old and she absolutely loved it.

Watch original - Nadiya ke Paar. It's still iconic as its so true to its roots. Even DDLJ & KKHH to me haven't aged well (I watched both 6-7 times in theatre). Enjoy Nadiya ke paar more than these movies now a days. So, may be that's why Panchayat works - authenticity.

The other day I was watching it for the Nth time and then thought it would be good to watch it together with my 9 year old daughter. Then I watched it as a mom and decided it was better not to introduce the movie to her and instead let her listen to the iconic songs.

Andaz apna apna was the first movie I saw with my friends. And first ever first day first show. I was around 12. I never in my life laughed so hard. I don’t agree with ur american sitcom theory. Indian cinema have had some fairly complex story telling in past for comic movies. For eg. angoor.

I did actually watch the movie in the first week of it's release at Deccan theatre, Pune. I was 13 then. I felt AAA was very hilarious then. It still is.

I am that guy who watched this movie in Metro Cinema and I tell you the theater was empty but I laughed my lungs out and I liked the movie so much that i watched all 3 shows on the same day... 3 to 6...6 to 9...9 to 12.. not bluffing. Not lying.. I m so proud of that act of me because whoever I asked about this movie after watching it, nobody knew about the movie at all but the movie is now called a classic ..I m now 40 years old. I was 15 then . Studying in FYJC .. living in a student hostel. Such a nostalgia.. I cherish my younger days a lot n AAA is definitely one of the great moments of my young days

Actually, this movie picked up popularity in mid to late 2000's, I was in school at that time, and honestly American sitcoms have nothing to do with its popularity, I saw this movie first time on a private network channel and at that time we didn't even know a single American sitcom, these all sitcom such as FRIENDS, etc pick up popularity in the last five years of the internet.
Paresh Rawal’s ‘Teja’ is the best character. You just feel like giving that guy a hug, because:-
1. Logo uske bhai ko Ram samajhte the aur isse raavan.
2. His dad’s munim bored him to death, so uske patte bicha diye.
3. Mogambo ka gafla kiya so he’s hiding from him.
4. Most importantly, his henchmen- Bhalla & Robert always let him down. ALWAYS. EVERY SINGLE TIME. It makes him cry after every ‘Mere naye plan ke mutaabik..”
5. When he calls for Ransom, even Amar doesn’t take him seriously, “Bolna hai toh bol nahi toh phone rakh raha hu..” He’s like nahi ruk ruk ruk..
6. Then he demands for 50 lakhs but settles for 7835.29. Damn, imagine the heartache.
7. His very own Robert & Bhalla don’t acknowledge him as Real Teja & say “Ha, mark toh hona chahiye..”
Time & again everyone let him down throughout the movie. IMAGINE.
So many problems in life. Poor guy.

I never saw Friends or any American sitcom. I was 14 yrs old when AAA released . I clearly remember I went to theatre with friends to watch it . I understood every comic aesthetic , joke , whether subtle or OTT. I remember laughing my ass off the same way I laugh today at those scenes . I can proudly say I’m a 90’s Child and still LOVED the entire movie that time . And this makes me a part of those intelligent group of ppl who understand GOOD n ENTERTAINING cinema ...even at that age....Me with my sister and brother , we used to enact scenes and dialogues of each character . That time there was no social media , no internet, no access to critics or reviews ....just pure n honest reviews from our hearts

I watched Andaz Apna Apna first day last show in Metro, Mumbai and I absobloodylutely loved it and still do.
As a member of audience who is now exposed to great cinema from the West, who loves the new wave of story tellers like Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya, Shujit etc...I often stear clear of 'classic' bollywood films that I loved as a child, but now find them cringeworthy as my sensebilities have changed.
But still there are some films(specially Amitabh Bachchan blockbusters) which I enjoy re-watching. However, I was never able to express why I love Andaz Apna Apna so much. But thanks to your amazing and insightful analysis of this movie...now I know why! I love the way you broke down the structure of this movie and so wonderfully explained how it really worked on the audience. Can't wait for more episodes of this series!

Many years ago I watched Jogwa(Marathi), Kanjeevaram (Tamil) & Adiminite Makan Abu( Malayalam). I really feel regional movies should be highlighted more.. ( that's my 2 cents!)

Andaz Apna Apna & Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa - both came in 1994. I saw AAA in theatre & thought why isn't everyone watching it ? I remember telling friends that if you have seen even one film in life, AAA has to be there. Similarly, KHKN is stunning work, even now it brings sense of nostalgia about simpler things n life then. Why not go deep into history & review from 1930s, 1940s - movies like Duniya na mane, Kismat, Andaz (Dilip, Raj, Nargis) & then move forwards. That would be real tribute to Hindi cinema. 1994 is still relatively fresh. Then, there's a Hindi dubbed version of Sanskrit movie - Adi Shankaracharya (Sarvdaman Banerjee) - see it - its an experience beyond any movie ever made. Review these Film Companion - I have been enjoying your content for many years...

1.Was supposed to release on 22nd July(Krantiveer released instead)but the release date was then pushed to 23rd Sept(Main Khiladi Tu Anari and The Shawshank redemption release day)then was pushed further to OCT and then finally to 4th Nov...
2.On 4th Nov 1994,released 5 other Major releases,Suhaag,Yaar-Gaddar,Udhaar ki Zindagi,Sardar and Speed...
3.HAHK's Magic was still going on(5th August 1994 released)Nobody was interested in watching a Comedy...
4.Despite being a Flick filled with Huge Stars,there was absolutely no promotion for the Film...
5.People were falling off their seats laughing during trials(70+ trials)but in theaters the audience waa absolutely silent.
AAA flopped in Bombay but downsouth it did well and probably in Delhi too,Komal Nahta's Film information called it an average grosser back in 1995 but now even he says that AAA was a Flop,Weird.
It didn't work at the time of its release because it took four years to make and by the time it released it was considered stale. Yes, the irony is not lost on me. Also there was literally nothing like it at the time. The cable scene in India was in its infancy. Compare that to another cult film - Dil Chahta Hai, released in 2001 that too was unique - that film worked because by 2001 Indians had hundreds of national and international channels to watch and liked their content. Sometimes it's all about the timing.

Those day hero's were taken so seriously and never used to make fun of themselves. The sholay joke was so ahead of its time that people didnt understand ki yeh pop culture reference joke hota kya hai. This was out and out comedy film. Govinda's movie those days were comedy action emotion mixed matlab pakka commercial so thats why it didnt work

I apologize if someone has already made a similar comment that I didn’t catch, but I’m curious if anyone else also sees parallels to another 1994 release: “Dumb and Dumber”.
I’m Indian-American and a fan of Indian movies-which is rare, apparently-and so to explain the the enduring appeal of Andaz Apna Apna to others, I often say it’s a bit like if the Farrelly Brothers had written “Dumb and Dumber,” but had Mel Brooks direct it. Both movies are about a pair of friends who, shall we say, aren’t the brightest diyas in the aarti, and get a little in over their heads. It’s not a perfect comparison by any means-Harry and Lloyd are arguably more earnest and well-intentioned than Amar and Prem-but if you’ve seen both movies, you’ll recognize some common plot elements: Kidnapping/hostage-taking, a container of valuables that everyone wants, romantic competition, the main characters irritating the shit out of a henchman, and most memorably (speaking of shit), a toilet scene featuring the more innocent half of the pair falls victim to a laxative-based prank. Yet they’re so distinct in tone that while I might notice their common elements, I never feel like I’m watching two versions of the same movie.
TL;DR: Perhaps the biggest similarity between “Andaz Apna Apna” and “Dumb and Dumber” is that they’re both remarkably well-written, well-crafted, and 25+ years later, still well-loved movies about a couple of complete morons. 😆

Those days, new Hindi film used to get released on both VHS and Cinema Hall on the same day. Only thing is VHS use to have advertisements on the bottom banner and also in middle, a couple of scenes and songs cut. After a month an uncut version without Ads use to come back on Cable TV. I remember watching AAA on the same day of release at home. Didn't like it the first time but liked it eventually. Then, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun changed the whole process where new movie got released only in Cinema Halls. Which finally led to piracy.
Rajkumar Santoshi wasn't celebrated enough for his magnificent work, just look at his filmography - Ghayal, ghatak, AAA, Lazza(women centric), Bhagat singh etc

Actually the film didn’t work mainly because it took several years to complete . Raveena and Karishma’s debut movies were just released and they were cast for this one immediately . They weren’t big stars when they signed it . But the movie was just getting delayed year by year . At one point ,there were rumors that the film was shelved . If u remember , in the movie Damini ( in 1993 ,also directed by Raj kumar santoshi) there was a scene where Aamir khan did a special appearance song with Meenakshi sheshadri on stage and after the performance , Rishi kapoor’s friend asks Aamir “ when is AAA releasing”. Aamir says very soon and the friend says “ pls release it sooner “ ....it showed that the audience was eagerly awaiting for the movie but it just kept getting delayed ....and when finally it got released , there was hardly any promotion , the songs had a very retro touch and hence didn’t top up the music charts , half of the audience had lost interest in the film and mainly due to lack of promotion and hype , it failed at the box office ....but whoever saw it , loved it . And then that was the time of VHS tape where we could easily rent the cassette and watch it at home after few months ....it was only Hum aapke hain kaun which stopped the release on VHS tape and forced the audience to throng to cinema halls once again....and rest is history
Still remember I was in school, just saw one small poster at station, no big banner, no marketing.
Maybe that is why got failed.

Andaz Apna Apna - The only movie in the entire cinematic universe which doesn`t have a single sad or emotional scene.
@sucharita and others at film companion... I do honestly think people discovered the gem that Dil Se was much after its release. I believe Dil se released the same year as ghulam and kuch kuch hota hai which took the cake, but the subtle nuances in the film still stay as relevant. I honestly can go on and on about its intricacies, the characters, the internal conflicts, the very fact that Ratnam was collaborating with Gulzar saab and the hidden subtext of Ghalib's poetry (not just in the satrangi re song but also of the movie depicting the seven stages of love). Of course, it is among the best performances of SRK as well. Would love for you to do a flashback/fc retake on that movie.

@@prathmeshgharat2873 I understand the point is that she spoke about that time period 1993 to 95 a year here or there ussse koi pralay nahi aa jayegi as said here damini released in 93 but hhahk released in 94 .. the point is an intersting period in hindi film industry as opposed to an era being dominated by superstars this was an era led by female superstar because there was no male super star ..yes mr bachchan was on. A sabbatical..sanju had gone to jail.. Jackie Shroff will soon relegate himself to supporting roles...there was sunny deol and anil kapoor with sunny in the lead with anil giving turkeys like andaz, mr aazad ..salman and aamir were up and coming stars and SRK's ddlj was a year away..this period form 92 to 95 was dominated by madhuri,juhi, amrita Singh Meenakshi who had meatier roles written for them ..that's the whole point which I am trying to make so heroines weren't just arm candies yes new actress's like kajol,karisma,raveena even tabu were running around tress but that too would change in a couple of years with kajol ddlj and karisma rhaa Hindustan...raveena Raman and shool hope this clear things up

Watch original - Nadiya ke Paar. It's still iconic as its so true to its roots. Even DDLJ & KKHH to me haven't aged well (I watched both 6-7 times in theatre). Enjoy Nadiya ke paar more than these movies now a days. So, may be that's why Panchayat works - authenticity.

देवेन वर्मा , हरीश पटेल , परेश रावल , वीजू खोटे , शक्ति कपूर , शहजाद खान , जावेद खान , महमूद , जगदीप , टीकू तलसानिया के भी पात्र फ़िल्म में यादगार हैं। दरअसल यही सब पात्र फ़िल्म की जान हैं। मुख्य कलाकारों का काम तो साधारण ही है।

I saw this on cable in 1994 and love it since then. So, the "friends" theory is rubbish. The reason of its failure was HAHK. It just got over-powered by a mammoth hit and in those days, hit movies used to be in theaters for months. Had it come 2 years later (DDLJ came in 1995) it would have been a hit.

1994 - Forrest Gump overshadowed The Shawshank Redemption, similarly AAA got overshadowed by HAHK. S... happens. On a sidenote, people rave about 2001 - DCH, Lagaan was a gamechanging year. Yes, it was but I think 1975 - Deewar, Sholay & Chupke chupke changed the direction of Hindi cinema. Similarly, 1994 was one such year - KHKN, AAA, Bandit Queen in same year went on to change everything in later years.... And yes 2018 (though not as big as 1975,1994,2001) was probably a great year in recent times - Andhadhun, Badhai ho, Bhavesh Joshi, Manmarziyan, Tumbbad, Mukkabaz, Zero....
Even Mehmood's production company in the film , 'Wah Wah Productions' was a homage to his character in Pyaar Kiye Jaa

This Movie is a Biggest Cult 😍🥰😘🤩 theres no need of Any Other Country comedy shows for many people like us to understand this Bombastic movie coz we all Understood the movie when we watched it on tv as kids n still having the same craze like we had in 1994 n blindly Followed it watching everytime n doing the stuffs of this movie in our day to day life too 🥳🤗
