      Of all the things you name terrain pieces? That's the last thing anyone cares about. Legitimately they need an in-between set that is less than $80 to 100 to bring new people in and get them trying it. CMF line is great but doesn't get new players to try the campaign and new players aren't going to invest 400 dollars so they need a mini campaign set

      I'd absolutely love terrain sets and I much like the idea. It is not a way to get new D&D people into the hobby though,
      Also, for me, building terrain is one of the 'easier' things to do, be it foliage or rock formations or forests. While buildings are a mixed bag, can be very hard or easy.
      For the amount of money we all like to see these D&D sets priced at, I don't expect them to make massive display sets, but maybe smaller detailed ones that can combine with and introduce lots of new minifigures and monsters.
      This is exactly the point, we can build everything in D&D with the Lego that exists, apart from minifigure parts and prints, or even larger scale models like minotaurs and such. That stuff needs to be made by Lego itself and is worth buying for sure.
      Complete campaigns and stories would be great as well, especially for the people that aren't just buying this solely for the Lego.

    • @yotelex
      @yotelex 4 місяці тому +4

      I would disagree. The percent of D&D groups that use terrain is minimal, a lot play on-line or use VTT for their maps. Even for those groups that do play face-to-face, in general the players don't collect or use terrain or maps, it's only the GM. This means you have cut the potential demand for Lego D&D terrain down to 20% or so (since it would be only the DM who would be buying these sets, not the players).
      Even if your DM does use physical terrain instead of printed maps, it would add another time sink to the work the GM has to do to prep a game. Building several terrain sets for each session will take time and effort (and it would require a LOT of Lego).
      I'm sure there are groups who would use Lego D&D terrain but the numbers would be small and I doubt the sales would be justified when there would be plenty of new D&D display sets that would sell in greater numbers. I have the Red Dragon's Tale set and it isn't exactly practical to use in a D&D session, beyond the "look at this cool set" I doubt it would be used more than the once.

      I would love this. Considering WotC are soon to release a new Edition of D&D, the collab between the two companies could be expanded such that maybe some Classic Castle factions join the D&D Lore. Put Lion Knight, Black Falcons, Forestmen, Wolf Pack, etc. In a D&D Supplement. Or expand upon the factions in the RDT/CMF sets, The Displacer Beast crest, Beholder crest, The Bahamut Knights... Use the facs in the recent poll (Bull, Ravens, Krakens, or Griffins) ...any of these in new D&D sets/wave would be awesome.

    • @octav1600
      @octav1600 4 місяці тому +2

      I wouldn't mind these either (if they keep the quality as good as these - and they start using fewer / no stickers in the sets, and don't overprice them like crazy)
      However I do think it is mandatory to get at least 1 castle remaster each year or 2 (at least until we get all the 1980-1990 factions out the door with full fanfare (shields, dragon plumes, capes, multiple torsos and specialized helmets, variants to them - like blue and black forestmen). CMF are nice, but we really REALLY need battlepacks and a cheaper black knights castle. The original one is so expensive. And they can make a black Creator 3 in 1 castle as wel that attaches to it to expand it and make it like a real castle, with multiple inner courtyards.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 4 місяці тому +1

      This would be amazing. However, I much prefer a true 'Castle' line, especially since making it in the D&D brand means it will be more expensive as an existing IP. WotC is not a company that sells their products cheap, it is probably the greediest company out there in the gaming scene.
      Just regular lego-owned castle themes are the best, but if we can't have that, a D&D theme will be a reasonale alternative. (assuming it is priced normally)

      Apart from the massive quantities of scanned boxes in discount stores with no Dragonborn Paladin in sight, I truly love this D&D CMF. It is an incredibly popular series, but I believe mostly because of the large interest of the massive castle community and the really high quality of the figures. I think the overlap with D&D and Lego is relatively small, but I could be wrong.

    I used to be a big Lego fan as a kid but the lack of space and prices of some of the sets really made it hard for me to keep up with. I’ve been playing DnD for a few years now and the new Lego sets really revitalize my interest in Lego, so I hope they make more because building the Red Dragon’s Tale was such a nostalgic feeling that I missed, and it made me interested in get more or try my hand at MOC building, if I can dust off my old Lego and see what I got.
    The best way I can see Lego capitalizing on this market would be to release “battle packs” with Minifigures and some scatter terrain to use in games, more CMFs would be great, and Sets of Brick Built iconic monsters scaled to Minifigures. Great post and something I can relate to. The main thing I have always built was castle and space and since I got back into the hobby by the end of last year, they are nowhere to be found outside of a few very expensive sets.
      Those ideas how they could invest in the D&D theme are perfect to me, even though it would help if they'd also have something in there that actually needs to be built. One thing I never liked about 'Battlepacks' is that you do not get anything worthwhile to build with it. Cost effectively though, this would add exactly what a MOC builder cannot, unique pieces and characters.

  • @TeflonDave

    Lots of great ideas here in the comments. Really like the dungeon tiles or terrain. The suggested battle-packs would also be great for enemies encountered in numbers like orcs or gobs. Combining sets for an entire campaign seems like a guaranteed success. Perhaps small sets with individual encounters started up, mid-range sets for locations to explore and larger sets with an entire adventure built around them. Then the largest and most elaborate sets might be the climax for the whole campaign. A tavern set with several PC minifigs to choose from where they can all meet and begin their adventures, and / or an inn where they can rest in-between would be a great way to add more characters. Maybe adding one or two PC's in each set will help expand that roster too. It's pretty common for other themes to include an individual from an opposing faction in many sets. Hope to see some great releases for D&D next year! 🤞

    Some other people mentioned terrain, and having an official version of the square and map element systems people already make would be cool.
    However I think the biggest win would be larger figures for common enemies and allies/polymorphs.
    Dungeon masters would want to collect dozens of those kinds of figures including multiples of some, and having good models in minifigure-scale which are 2x2+ squares would allow people to play on regular grid maps with matching figures while also offering a good step on the road to a complete LEGO map system to offer a range of options and get people hooked on climbing that ladder.
    This would also spark off more custom figures in LEGO's official scale/base-size which would sell a lot of bricks and give them lots of MOCs to draw from.

    Lego could make a mint by looking no further than the monster manual. There is a pretty big market for resin/plastic monster minis that is limited due to the skill and time commitment of painting them. Lego is far more accessible than miniature painting. They could release line after line of brick built monsters and minifigs to sell individually or in monster packs depending on the size of the monsters. Should be pretty easy for their designers, not too expensive to license, and shouldn't be too taxing on the parts budget

    I think they didn't give it too much thought ahead of the contest (they just thought they would make the one set and be done with it). Somehow the feedback was crazy, and they decided to see how a CMF series does.
    Now, depending how well it does (and it should be doing fine, I plan to get 10 of each - at the very least and 20+ dragons and some others - and they are always sold out at the lego store, had to get mine from a supermarket) they can do either of these things:
    1) be lego, not like money and just not do any until 2-5 years later they start to poke at it with another CMF line (hope this doesn't happen)
    2) they could start doing some smaller sets - I would personally like them in 2 waves each year, with at most 4 sets and at least another CMF line. I would personally LOVE them to have a CMF line each year forever with these things - and maybe add a yellow skin elf ear piece until they exhaust all the current ones we have .Why not more than 4, because there is only so much you can do, and some of them might be just good as kits to buy 10 of each and do something fancy yourself. I could see them making a medium creature like the owlbear, a small tree/ plant / treasure and one minifig for $10, a campfire / caravan / shop with 2 minifigs for $20, a small dungeon or cemetery biome with 3-5 characters (at most $50), larger outlandish biome with a medium or large creature for $75-100.
    3) they could release another BIG set, maybe even bigger, with a story to go with it that continues the story in the red dragon's tale (2 and 3 are not mutually exclusive)
    Adding to this a village city line with peasant stuff and limited tournament knight factions, and more LOTR sets and one old castle remakes each year and methinks we would be more than happy.

    D&D CMF definitely derserves another wave. I don't know much about it so the questions is if there's enough room to make more. From the movie I saw that there was an Arakocra with black feathers and he wore more like a robe then a warrior outfit. They could also give us generic soldiers as they are interchangeable. From a Google search I could see that there are Orcs in the D&D universe so that would probably be the number one seller.

    Imagine several smaller sets that each are enough for a small adventure. Maybe make those sets modular so you could even combine them. Like a small townhouse that you place on top of a dungeon set. Get yourself two more dungeons to create more rooms to explore underground. Or combine the house with other stuff to create a large building. If Lego wasn't dumb, they would give us something similar to the CMF: a box with 5 minifigures for 20 bucks. All with double heads and plenty of gear. Guys like me who aren't into D&D, but do love castle would enjoy that, too. Man, dreams without ending...

  • @mistermellowsart
    @mistermellowsart 3 місяці тому

    I'd like to see modular sets like dungeon "Creator" series. Imagine a sea of gray and earth tone bricks, cell doors, arch windows, barrels, maybe a skeleton or 2. An Inn set with mostly brown pieces to assemble all the furniture and a barkeep. The possibilities are endless!

  • @jackmehauf8664
    @jackmehauf8664 4 місяці тому

    They could easily make multiple short 1 shot campaigns to sell at lower prices. Make a small dungeon to play through and you could make the individual sections modular to combine it with other sets or make your own

  • @marvinbange1216

    Man, small encounter type set would go so hard. Like a cool brickbuild monster, small piece of terrain and a couple figures would be awesome. Or a crypt with undead skeletons for your characters to explore, i can totally see both these ideas in the 20-30€ range. Not really holding out hope for it tho, Lego has pretty clearly shown that anything castle/medieval/fantasy can only ever be a couple hundred dollar. The chances of a DnD series 2 are pretty decent tho i imagine, seeing how the castle community is vaccuming that stuff up

    I've mentioned it before (not sure if on this channel), but I think LEGO should release a line of brick-built monster sets, similar to Chima's "Legend Beasts", and include 1-3 D&D minifigures in each one. Price could be in line with what is charged for Brickheadz, with a similar total piece count (single, double, multi-pack pricing model), depending on the monster being depicted. Gets us more creatures, and more figs, without breaking the bank.

  • @WeirdIce

    The campaign that comes with the existing set is honestly pretty minimal as far as table top RPG adventures go so trying to make even smaller of adventures for sets doesn't really make sense in my opinion. What would make sense to me is to have a wave of sets that each include elements for a single encounter of a DnD adventure so if you want to play the whole thing in LEGO you have to collect them all or you can buy just some of them and use pen / paper or regular dungeon terrain for the rest. With this idea I would expect the adventure path to be sold by itself by Wizards of the Coast and then the two products can cross advertise each other.
    Alternatively, something that I think would make a lot of sense for DnD is small sets that have an adventure or two and a monster or two to fight maybe with a small terrain build. "Cleric encounters an owlbear" Basically, DnD battlepacks. The nice thing about this is the monsters could easily be added to an existing collection of DnD miniatures for use in games.

    Having bought all the minifigures as well as the larger set, what I would hope for is a wave of smaller sets followed by a larger set with a small adventure. Think the old castle sets that were one or two minifigures plus a small set piece like a cart or ballista, but instead it would be one hero character plus a monster or a trap. They could include stat cards, and then with the release of the larger set you could use either the included heroes or one of the characters from the smaller sets, and the DM could use the monsters and traps to enhance the adventure.

    I would be very surprised if we wouldn't get a 2nd minifigure series. The first one we all bought with my friends, but it gave none of the more popular named characters. No Elminster, Drizzt, Minsc and so on.
    If we do get some more sets, they might make some easy and /or iconic locations. A famous tavern, like the Yawning Portal or something as simple as an owlbear cave.
    Their DnD products were - I assume based on reviews, and my friend group's purchases - financially successful, and their main goal is profit. This IP helps them achieve their goal, the only question is their margins.

    I’m going to say something wildly optimistic, and almost certainly wrong: Lego have said that the demand just isn’t there to justify a Castle line, and it’s mostly nostalgia from AFOLs, however the risk can be mitigated by tying it to another brand. Whilst D&D is still niches I think Lego D&D might have proved that demand, and may possibly lead to a full line, in place of a Castle line. Wizkids has long established there’s a market there for D&D minis/terrain - Lego can capitalise that, the Castle collectors and the D&D fans. I’m probably wrong, and you’ll be right about an annual big set, however I think that the potential is there.

    I've also noticed that with the 2 big castles on sale, the Creator 3-in-1 castle has stayed rock solid at RRP with no sales for nearly a year now (at least in the UK, where it is exclusive to a store that generally has great sales). I think a second CMF wave is pretty much guaranteed. Seems like almost every 3rd party IP gets at least 2.
    As far as a full line, that would be cool. I don't think you are getting custom campaigns or scenarios for a $25 set though. I could see them doing a wave with an overarching story or terrain packs. I think either one would be a good approach. Most likely though I see another big set and another wave of CMF.

    For sure Lego is going to choose the expensive set with a GWP option as the next D&D set, or they are going to forget about it entirely and never make another. I'd hate for that to happen and I'd prefer to be surprised instead.
    I have to be honest though, I was really tempted when I saw the large D&D set and everytime I step foot in a Lego store I still am, but I'm not 360 dollar tempted. If it ever goes on sale for $200 or less, I will buy it.
    That said, the best option will be releasing the 25-100 dollar sets and introducing more amazing figures like we saw recently. The D&D CMF had been the best 'set' released this year, if accounting for affordability, with the Medieval Town Square being my 2nd favorite and the Tuxedo Cat a distant third.

Lego would make so much money just focusing on dnd battle packs.
