For context this used to play on Overwatch 1 main menus when Sigma was just released.
(Official theme, I didn't make this)

The part of his animation where he snaps to being afraid. Those Black Hole devices got unstable while he was unfocused. That's terrifying. Imagine what would happen if he didn't snap back into a persona who could handle them. It would be catastrophic.
Sigma seems (in the lore at least) to easily be the most powerful character in overwatch by far, he just either doesn’t realise it or is trying his best not to acknowledge it

@@Dr.Meme-Man well, the thing is, his auditory hallucinations aren't individually detached from the other traumas impacting his perception of the world, so he /is/ a little fucked at the end of the day; with mental illness, the causes are always much deeper than they seem. there's only hope to cure his hallucinations if he cures literally every single thing he lost AND gained from that failed experiment. it's not so simple. this song is just the tip of the iceberg.
sigma's experience of the "melody" is likely caused by some form of brain damage or psychosis, but one could assume it's the latter... which also means that he experiences a plethora of other symptoms, such as his apparent inability to recognize or fully accept talon's relationship with his work. also pertinent is sigma's distinct hopping from topic to topic with little reason or rationality, and how he almost seems to switch personalities upon exposure triggers of violence like a switch, even if he was wholeheartedly polite and friendly mere minutes before.
tl;dr he has a shitton of ptsd and other severe disorders like depression, schizophrenia/bipolar, etc. etc. so its not JUST auditory hallucinations he suffers from

Sigma is possibly the most interesting character in the overwatch lore. And also is like a literal god compared to everyone else but we will gloss over that.

sombra is a hacking god who is impossible to hide information from and can and will blackmail everyone
moira is a mad genius who has effectively created sigma and reaper (sigma's abilities were created by the test failing but moira is the one who made him useful for talon) and who breaks ethics laws like they are merely suggestions
then what does overwatch have? the only person of note is tracer who is effectively a time god but everyone else is just a normal person, i mean mcree is just a guy with a revolver.

I'm fairly certain there is a line just like this. Something along the lines of "you can hear it too?" From Tracer talking to Sigma. Speaking about some sort of melody only they can hear.

I believe there is one with sigma and echo where she says to him, "yeah, what is that melody". Given that she is able to copy people pretty much perfectly she could potentially experience the same things he is because of it.
I like how when he loses focus, the black holes become unstable and he notices just in time the gravity of the situation and turns it down.

I actually sat down and read through those captions, and I was pleasantly surprised with the contents. One of most relevant parts of them was the mention of how distracting the music tends to be for those hearing music involuntarily. The Hallucinations would distract them from focusing other other subjects, which is exactly what happens in this video: Sigma stares into the void (towards us, make of that what you will) and presumably is lost in the music, which causes his little battle balls to expand and make scary noises until he refocuses.
I love sigma, what a great character.
I think he has multiple personality disorder caused from the accedent, which would explain why he suddenly lost focus because he had a personality switch to maybe the original Dr. Dekeuper. This theory also explains why in his intro video we go from seeing he in a lab, scared and confused, to being a crazy man confident in his knowledge. Possibly his personality split because his mind couldn't process the full brunt and equations that gives him the ability to manipulate gravity.

It seems that at 0:36 the afraid prisoner personality took hold for a second, thankfully the calm scientist personality took over before the black hole cages broke
I have a theory that there's three personalities to sigma:
The calm and collected scientist, (what you mainly see during gameplay)
The scared and confused prisoner, (rarely comes out except in instances shown above)
And the enraged god. (The most in touch with his abilities and only seems to come out when he hears the melody being played by talon, AKA during his ultimate)

What to us seems like personalities are rather himself from different points in time. Like his brain functions are so messed up by anomalies that the version of his mind from specific times go back and forth

Like he seems to be a Schizo but he likely is actually hearing music and the voices of himself from infinite points in time and different dimensions

I love the idea of a crazy cientist, he can actually manipulate the entire space at anytime, but still he keeps his sanity on line like he know how catastrophic would be if he lose it
His entire lore is about how he went completely insane because of an incident with a black hole that appeared out of nowhere right next to him, causing his mind to be broken into literal pieces and him getting the power to control gravity. His personality is split into 3 different ones now

I like to believe that this melody somehow represents the lore of Sigma.Just listen to the song and you'll get it,the first part represents the insanity Sigma underwent when experimenting when the black hole,and then everything calms down,as the more violent side of Sigma takes over.

As another comment pointed out, it’s terrifying how as soon as he loses focus for more than a second the black holes become unstable.
For reference, a black hole which is the same size compared to an atom as a penny is compared to the sun explodes with hundreds of times more force than a nuclear bomb. The ones he’s holding are nearly the size of a tennis ball - if those things went off they could probably destroy the planet, if not the solar system

Sigma is my favorite character in the game. If he wasn't forced to try to keep his powers limited to keep them under control all the time, he'd be able to crush all the others characters on the roster into little ultra-dense golf balls with little effort if he wanted.
Honestly, it'd be cool if they expanded his lore a bit, maybe have him leave Talon and join Zenyatta at the monastery to learn how to find peace and become more in control. His accident clearly left him able to perceive the universe on a higher conceptual level than others, but he never got the chance to learn how to deal with it because it was thrust upon him. Zenyatta can also perceive the universe on a higher level on account of his enlightenment, and Sigma will mention to him that he's "met" the Iris. Some people think he's just being crazy, but I don't think so. I think he's effectively experienced a sort of forced or incomplete transcendence, and that Zenyatta could possibly help him learn how to understand and make peace with it.

I arrived at this video with the intention of hearing Sigma's theme again, and got out with a complete essay about music hallucinations lol.

So the split personality theory may be correct towards the end. I say that his black hole side, since partially being a black hole, may be in near full control and takes over handling the black holes in his hand. That little flash of reality was the real sigma and when he wasn't anywhere he knew he was surprised and confused, then the black hole side may have gained control again. Also I believe that some of his voice lines are both speaking in unison especially in ow2.

i think the melody changes depending on his personality. the really fast and aggressive part is the personality that talon uses, its all serious and emotionless,. the calmer classical music part is his regular personality, he looks around curiously at everything, and when the melody stops you can see subject sigma come out and lose control.

There's voicelines with Sombra and Soldier 76 that show the influence that Talon has on Sigma, the melody is just a hypnotic tool in order to use his abilities for violence. Which is why the melody plays when using his ultimate, which is also why he goes insane, unable to find where the music is coming from, what the melody is.
