  • Mr. Randy DeLoach was such a wonderful host and we have enjoyed our visit to pick Watermelon Patch for the past 3 years now!
    If you are in Georgia this would be a good place to take your children/ family to pick their own watermelon!

    I am grateful for all of the migrant workers and other agricultural harvesters that cull the fields so others can yet. Just grateful.

    Black diamond! The only one I eat! Can't get it everywhere here in AR. Only farmers markets! Great harvest! He has a wonderful patch and I learned something today!

      Yes indeed! Since I live in the city, I look forward to seeing the roadside farmers in the summertime. The store watermelon isn't very good, at least to me.

    Looks absolutely beautiful out there. I’m in Ga zone 8A and I have land in 8B not far from where I reside. I remember the day’s growing up walking outside to pick watermelons and everything else you could imagine. I’m an hour from Claxton and have another property about 30 minutes from there as well. I know it smells amazing out there. I’m growing some melons in my backyard. So enjoyed y’all watermelon picking 😊. Wow I didn’t know about sunscreen for watermelons😮. Yes yes save them seeds. I will have to make my way down there. 😊 Sweet potatoes and cantaloupe yummy. Thank you for sharing.

      The funny part about it is that it didnt get hot enough for watermelon to thrive in zone 8A where we live so we were blessed that we didnt plant any this year. They would not have done well at all. It was well worth the drive to support another small farmer and spend some quality time with family. Blessings family

    Thanks for taking us along it reminded me of the days when we use to help our grandparents harvest vegetables. I think we enjoyed picking the watermelons the most because we got to taste them in the field .

    I love how y'all pick watermelons as a family. I live in Eastern North Carolina. Born and raised on a farm. North Carolina is number one in the nation in sweet potatoe production. We grow more sweet potatoes in 7-8 counties here than any other states in the nation.

    I wish I knew of this place when we lived in Hinesville. I can't grow watermelon here in central NY state 😔 Those watermelons look soooooo good!

      Southern tier NYS. I tried growing watermelon last year. I planted the small personal sized ones. I got two but found out that there were so many seeds in it that I couldn't get a full bite without seeds. Didn't plant them this year.

    Thank you so much for bringing back so many good memories. When i was a kid out family used to go to different farm getting eggs, beans, onions, peaches etc with our grandparents. They knew all the good places to go.

    Great video! My favorite fruit of all-time! Starting a watermelon juice fast tomorrow. I'll be only consuming watermelon juice! And it's always good to see Indigenous people doing good with farming, etc!

    This was awesome. I love seeing the seeds in those watermelon. Never heard of black diamond watermelon. It's a beautiful watermelon.

      Black diamond was not my favorite this year thats for sure. He Crimson Sweet was really sweetest hands down.. Praying that we can grow a decent black diamond next year to see if there is a taste difference.

    Wow!! Those watermelons have me drooling, I only eat seeded watermelons, no GMO. The spots that is rest on the ground the more yellow it is the sweeter the melon will be.

    Those watermelons look delicious. I haven't had watermelon in years especially freshly picked from the ground. Thos is one of the things I miss about being in the South during the summertime.

      Visiting places like this are one of our absolute favorite things to do. It's a way for the whole family to engage together. We are always looking for ways to better our processes on our own farmstead as well and visiting these small farmer's operations are a great way to get some ideas. You actually get to see them being utilized first hand.

    I'm so jealous! I'm paying $10 for a watermelon at Walmart and they're still green. So disappointing and who can afford to buy something you can't eat.

      I said the same thing when I saw the sweet potato vines! I was so tempted to pull them up. This may have been where he planted some sweet potatoes last year! He always keeps a rotation and never plants the same thing in the same spot 2 years in a row.

    A lot of people cut watermelons without washing them. I remember the first time my wife saw me washing my watermelon with soap. She asked why do I wash my watermelons because she never saw anybody do that. I explained to her that all kinds of insects, reptiles ect... crawl on watermelon.

      Watermelons are a tradition that they do every year. This year included. We got and pick watermelon and sweet potatoes (in their seasons or course) as a family every year. Looking forward to it this year as well.

    9:25-- Was this sweet watermelon any particular type?

      That particular watermelon was the crimson sweet! Pigweed is in the amaranth family. High un vitamins A and C as well as iron. It grows wild and can be invasive is left alone to go to seed(which it does very quickly).

      @@manuellubian5709 you can pick the leaves before it goes to seed and eat them. They taste like spinach. We would have picked some but we didnt want to bring the seeds home. They are invasive and will spring up every where. We grow a variety of callaloo which is also in the amaranth family and in full swing for us right now. We do not want cross pollination of our crop as we save and sell our seeds.

      It's a u-pick type operation so many wholesalers come to pick by the truckload and then resale them to the public.
