I've loved BMTH since the beginning. I use to work at Hot Topic and they'd come on the player and my heart would pound. I went two years without even knowing what the band looked like. When I first saw Oli I was like wow! I pictured a bigger guy lol BMTH old, new whatever I love it all. And if you are a true fan you'll understand why Oli had to do what he did He's voice was shot You can hear it breaking here and he still tried to keep going. This band is special I will always love BMTH
He’s fry screaming here. He stopped screaming due to not wanting to screaming. He can still do it. Just chooses not too. It’s called maturing and developing as an artist. Their newest song, “Mantra,” has a pretty sick scream in it.
@@3101max Nah he wrote a bunch of stuff for There Is A Hell. If you listen to I KIlled The Prom Queen (Jona's other band) you can hear some similarities in the guitar work and string/synth arrangements. For me There Is A Hell is the only album with any good guitar work on it. Before it was mainly chugg stuff and after they focused on the keyboards and synths pushing the guitar to the background. It's no coincidence the guitar work got good when Jona joined and then went to the background after he left
Something you should understand is, their first album came out 8 years ago. He was screaming incorrectly, which is why his voice is all raspy as fuck now, it's not even about how hard or complex screaming is, it's really not that difficult of a thing to do once you learn how to do it, I've personally been doing it for 4, going on 5 years nearly.
Johnny Mead FINALLY SOMEONE FUCKING UNDERSTANDS LMFAO. Yeah its the same with Danny Worsnop. Everyone says "oh he screams his voice is fucked up now" I mean drugs and alcohol abuse was probably the biggest weighing factor. They both make the damaged voice thing work though. Really great artist.
Tai Sixx But Danny Wornsop' voice, personally I think it's improved so much, he can still do the old stuff, kind of sounds the same. But Oli struggles to keep up now it seems.
Oh no doubt man. His voice has more character to it. Listen to the acoustic of death of me and a few others. Its definitely a new and improved sound. Everyone thinks that Oli and Danny can't do what they used to. Its completely wrong, they just found a healthier way to scream (well in Oli's case, not too sure about danny). I've been wanting to work with Melissa Cross for a while now to improve my screams. Which is what Oli did. In my opinion From Death to Destiny and Sempiternal are more radio/rock friendly as to both bands earlier albums like Reckless and Relentless and Suicide Season.
Tai Sixx I'm glad that I got to see Danny back in the start of his Career, the energy was amazing, and now, you can really see the maturity in his voice, which is something amazing, they've both really developed extremely well.
'We all carry these things inside that no one else can see. They hold us down like anchors. They drown us out at sea. I look up to the sky, there may be nothing there to see. But if I don't believe in him, why would he believe in me?' ♥
I agree, the old bring me the horizon was better than the modern pop songs they're trying to put in, sadly oli sykes lost his vocals and is trying to get it back.
notice on There Is A Hell there are less of his highs and more of his lows. it became obvious he was doing it wrong and also his addiction to ketamine fucked it up. so there were a lot of factors
It's easy to complain, when you have no idea how tiring and tiring it is to keep so much vocal effort for so long, even more live ... so be happy for what he can or could do ... why he was already Doing a lot.
Holy shit, that's incredibly brave from Jona. I guess all that adrenaline from the show got to him and made him go "let's climb the stage". No safety gear on him either. If he falls he's dead
Well, how do you expect Oli to sound after Screaming at the top of his lungs for 2 hours, multiple times a week. Obviously his voice is going to get strained.
i was watching the original Video of "Chelsea Smile" and thought, damn what power, how will he Keep this energy up live? the answer? not at all lol. to be fair he said ist their last song, so they might be powered out already. im still dissappointed.
This band literally died for me when Jona left. I really tried to get into anything after there's a heaven (I know Jona participated in Sempiternal but for me, it's a mid to boring album), but I just can't. Just bought a ticket to a BMTH + Spiritbox + The Plot in You + Motionless in White concert in Brazil, and since BMTH is headlining, I'll literally leave after the third band 😂
Like i've seen people post, oli's voice was most likely fucked after all this was the last song. And also the crowd is shit i mean if its the last song dance, head bang, mosh pit fucking show the band some love....
@LuuisFlp hell no the guitarist dont belong there doing punk rock jumps and shit it looks retarted and ollie cant even scream a whole song anymore matt still can and the music is so bassic
ok, I have seen BMTH live, from THE FIRST SONG he is like that, he fucked up his voice with CYB and its tour cycle, he has since late 2011 had surgery and is able to perform good.
i mean, i doubt a death metal vocalist could so screams like Terror, which is a hardcore band, oli uses the screams hardcore bands use and mixes it with deathcore vocals.
I like his vocals. This is his music, what he has created, what he believes in. Enjoy it, say kind words or get the fuck out. Have some fucking respect.
Actually yes...I do play guitar and have done for 23 years. Their guitar tone sounds muddy and extremely lazy. Although, please explain the logic of ability to play guitar vs having good guitar tone? An example of excellent modern guitar metal tone is Rob Arnold from Chimaira (negating their actual music, which I like anyway and purely talking about guitar tone)... You can hear all the nuances from riffs/chords, very bright excellent lead tones with loads of attack, but still heavy as fuck. ;)
the bands of this generation are here... but a majority of the kids into things like bmth haven't found them yet... the black dahlia murder are goin on ten years and 5 albums, but they could headline any show and it wouldnt feel out of place. all shall perish came up in the late 2000's, and they have about reached the same status. Shit, even the deathcore kids in job for a cowboy have grown into a respected metal band. Our generations doing fine. Kids just need a place to start.
you and the dudes that gave you a thumbs up.... im pretty sure you are smart, smart enough to know how acoustics work and how the "donald's voice" was because of the acoustic's place making the sound bounce into the mic.... i like oli and mitch, but oli can't scream like mitch did, at least i'ts been several years since he was able to, get your facts straight before bashing
If you're screaming every night, yes, you get tired. Sometimes you can't really keep your breath, you have to take extra breaks. Oli can't scream, like at all. Never will be able to again. They fucking blow, their guitar tone sucks. The only one I can barely stand is their drummer. It's a shame he's in such a shitty band.
I´m a death metal vocalist and I know how growls/screams/shouts whatever should sound like if they are done right. Sure it´s also about personal taste, but I talk about technique... Not quite a fan of cupping too ;) I was just wondering if someone knows if he had problems with his voc chords in the past.
First off i was on another tab and i click back and there guitarist is way up on the amp lol....then he spent like 5 min trying to get every one to sit down "that didnt work" Then he says get the f*** up off the floor. By the way i love there music but not when its live haha i love studios
