  • Have you ever thought about a time when an ancient civilization existed on a now-submerged land? Let's explore the story of Kumari Kandam or Kumari Nadu, a legendary lost continent said to be located south of today's India.
Kumari Kandam, as told in Tamil literature, was the birthplace of the Tamil civilization, a place where culture and knowledge bloomed. The name 'Kumari Kandam', coming from Sanskrit 'Kumārika Khaṇḍa', hints at its ancient roots.
Picture a land where people lived forever. Legends say the people of Kumari Kandam had exceptional knowledge and powers and even knew the secrets of eternal life.
Tamil texts like "Silappathikaram," "Manimekalai," and "Kantapuranam" tell us about this remarkable civilization. They describe a society rich in culture and history.
According to a 15th-century text on Silappathikaram, Kumari Kandam was large. It was south of Kanyakumari and covered 700 Kavatam, divided into 49 territories.
But Kumari Kandam's story is a tragic one. It was swallowed by the sea in a series of disasters, its cities lost, and its people scattered. The survivors moved to places like present-day India, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia, spreading the Tamil language and culture.
The survivors' legacy lives on. For example, the temple at Kanyakumari, at the southernmost tip of India, is believed to have been built by them.
So, are you ready to delve into history and explore the lost land of Kumari Kandam and its ancient civilization?

Why you people always want to prove that Indian history always started from North??. Even if you claim you can't give a proof based on scientific evidence. Why do you want to cover the history of southern India????????!
