Yankees looked like a collection of individual, superstar sluggers, playing for individual stats. Throw in Gerrit Cole as an above average starter (people say he’s a superstar; I disagree, but I’ll grant that he’s probably worth the money he’s getting). Dodgers played as a team. If you watched the earlier series, they weren’t afraid to play small ball, when appropriate; bunt the runner over, swipe that bag, shorten up that swing, etc. There is situational intelligence there that comes from an organizational and team culture, as well as just lots and lots of postseason experience, all up and down the lineup. The Yankees can improve on all these fronts, but what Mariachi Joe is saying isn’t wrong.

The difference between the Mets matchup with the Dodgers and the Yankees one is the Mets didn't have the pitching to settle down their lineup. But the Mets hustled and didn't miss the opportunities. The Yankees beat themselves. Both the NLCS and World Series had very similar start to game 5's. Flahery got shelled by the Mets and Yankees in their game 5's. The difference was the Mets didn't hand the game back even though the Dodgers did out some pressure on. Yankees just folded.

Yankees looked like a collection of individual, superstar sluggers, playing for individual stats. Throw in Gerrit Cole as an above average starter (people say he’s a superstar; I disagree, but I’ll grant that he’s probably worth the money he’s getting). Dodgers played as a team. If you watched the earlier series, they weren’t afraid to play small ball, when appropriate; bunt the runner over, swipe that bag, shorten up that swing, etc. There is situational intelligence there that comes from an organizational and team culture, as well as just lots and lots of postseason experience, all up and down the lineup. The Yankees can improve on all these fronts, but what Mariachi Joe is saying isn’t wrong.

The difference between the Mets matchup with the Dodgers and the Yankees one is the Mets didn't have the pitching to settle down their lineup. But the Mets hustled and didn't miss the opportunities. The Yankees beat themselves. Both the NLCS and World Series had very similar start to game 5's. Flahery got shelled by the Mets and Yankees in their game 5's. The difference was the Mets didn't hand the game back even though the Dodgers did out some pressure on. Yankees just folded.

He’s right about them not playing hard. I mean you can’t say Gerrit Cole was playing hard. You can’t tell me that Juan Soto plays hard in right field. If Juan Soto put a fraction of the effort he puts into hitting into improving his skills in right field he might actually be worth close to the money he is asking for in free agency. Aaron Judge is not lazy in any way shape or form. He is completely absolved from this discussion in my opinion. For the rest of them it is true though.
If the Yankees like Cole actually copped to the things they did wrong I would say Kelly was out of line. But the fact that Cole says things like ‘I was going to field the ball when the ball was already passed him when he left the mound. Yankees players act like there is nothing wrong with the way they play so I don’t mind Kelly running his mouth.
