@@kellybrown8638hahahahaha this is the newest mainliner they have they have bin hamstrung by the idiotic management for years the other mainliners were built in 1963 Matanuska 1974 Columbia. The Kennicott was built in 1998.
Left Haines, Alaska in Feb 1973 on the Malaspina. It was 50 years ago, so I don't remembed much except it was a beautuful trip, the food was great, and, since it was February, it was cold. But by then we were sourdoughs having spent three winters in Fairbanks where we saw 60 below zero.
Good job and thank you for this video! I’ve only recently discovered that there was ferries running between Washington and Alaska and am hoping to get to Alaska sometime in the not so distant future!…
Yes, this is a ferry but it is an open ocean vessel and conforms to ocean going requirements completely. It is more like a cruise liner with a purpose and a large ferry capacity. I've been a million miles at sea in every non-arctic ocean in just about every type of craft (cruise liners excepted - I never did it for fun.)
Awesome informative video. I turn 40 in September and I want to do this for my birthday 🎂 I saw Hobo shoestring on one of these ferries ⛴️ and I want to do it!!!
I just got a quote from AMH for 4 people in a cabin and a Ram 4500 with a bigfoot 10-6 truck camper pulling a oliver 18.5 travel trailer. The total was rite at $19,000.00 I will be driving up.
This is EXPENSIVE 500$ for walk aboard, 1000$ for a cabin this is per person. Not sure of car cost. I know it may be the journey but if I go to Alaska it is the destination.
Would love to take this trip but have contacted the ferry system and this route isn't currently running due to lack of qualified crew. They are not when it will be back.
looking the make this trip in 2023. Did you take the ferry round trip or one way. if one way i guess you rode up. Why did you do that rather than ferry up and then ride back? Why did you choose that time of year?
I’m excited to come up from Bellingham to somewhere with my Harley just to say I’ve ridden in Alaska…. Someone’s answer that if your buying a new bike you must be rich…. Kinda how I took it😂. I own a 2021 touring Harley…. I’m a dumbass with my money so I’m not rich! Did you get your Indian? I need to google ferry prices, Alaskan marine highway ferry? I would be doing a round trip. I can’t cross Canada since even though I had my record esponged in Canada I’ll be a bad guy for life. Get in trouble at 18 and even at 51 years old and no trouble in between…. To much wildlife along the alcan highway anyway. I’d be nervous to ride a bike through there.
Did BELLINGHAM to WHITTIER a few year ago with my R1200GS.
Saved a few miles on my way to Prudhoe Bay.
Would do this again.
Gotta remember: this is NOT a cruise. This is transportation. You have to compare it to a flight or a bus or a train. I think it wins!
Still beats a cruise for me. You get proper appreciation for the sea from those taking this trip compared to drunken yuppies, I would imagine.
much better than a cruise
With respect, check out any European ferry. This is embarassingly outdated and dire
@@baconatorrodriguez4651 and it is much more expensive like 10x more expansive than a cruise :)

The midnight buffet is like the old chocolate buffets the cruise ships used to do!
Did I see 6 & 4 scoring cards for Euchre?? Love that game.
Thank you, this video was very informative. I'm looking forward to this in August; same starting point and destination, too.
Very interesting. You covered it all.

Alaska is worth every effort to get here! Best move I have made.
I am living in Sweden, so this is quite far away from me, but looks very nice to go for a "cruise" over there, had been intresting to do that.
Sweden must have something similar, at least Scandinavia?
@@baconatorrodriguez4651 yes i agree, specially in Norway i'd say but not where i live. :)

thnx will do the Bellingham to Whittier in my SUV
Thanks for sharing.
Great informative video!
It’s about $1000 each way. The cabins are extra, of course.

And the cost was?
Did we ever find out?

We are going Bellingham to Juneau late April next month. Wonder what weather will be like?

Nice video!
Does that gulf of Alaska crossing only happen 2 times a year?
How about internet? High speed wifi available?
This was really good
How much did u pay for bike ?
Hoping to buy a bike in Washington and ferry it home to Whittier. What was the cost for a bike and Cabin?
Try and find you a bike in alaska. Might be cheaper the way their car auctions work.
Looking to buy a new Indian and there is no dealer in Alaska.
@@Trexducatis ahh. Well then, I suppose you've got it covered. Have a good journey.

That boat is a jalopy.
Pretty damn dreary and 1980s style
You get to carry your guns on this. No need to go through Canada.
