Veteran Player Revisits Splatoon 1, One Last Time

- As someone who started their competitive journey with this game, it still holds a special place for me. These are some games from a tournament and a bit of ranked I did in the days before the servers shut down for good.
The start of a journey that began with a simple craze for a new game. So much to even commit to competitive play, something I hadn't done before. Getting destroyed in the first tournament while playing in the middle of the night. Until eventually doing well and even winning some majors in the first game, and already traveling for events.
The cF stands for Crème Fresh, a team I made along with other people that lasted until early Splatoon 2. And I couldn't have asked for a better group of friends to start it all with. In general a lot of things I look back to from this game are related to this team. Practise, tournaments, LAN events and even team meetups. Many people from this team or others I faced are still people I talk or even play with today.
It may be a simple game, but when a lot of great memories began or even originated from here, it quickly becomes a lot more than that.

All these farewell videos are making me miss a game I never got to play
the way my parents talk about the 80s makes me miss a time i never lived in
Sit down little one and let me tell you a story about wonderful colors and grand adventures
Considering the DC in the second Mahi game that was a heck of a defense.
This game definitely has a lot of good memories for me. It was the first shooter I actually felt like I was competent at, and I loved the mechanics for getting around the map. I distinctly remember the moment it kinda clicked for me, I was in an engagement in Bluefin around those cross shaped wall things where we kinda juked a couple times behind them and then I was like 'Wait, I can paint this and go OVER to get them' and then doing just that. It was such a basic thing, and not even that fancy of a play by today's standards, but it just felt so good to make different use of the environment like that. Instead of it just being a wall to use as cover it was a tool, another option of attack. I remember being devastated when I clawing my way up to A- before losing my data to my external drive failing and wondering if I'd be able to get back up there, then grinding my way back up and dominating the lower ranks giving me some perspective on just how much I'd improved. Sometimes I wonder what it would've been like if I decided to push myself into competitive, I definitely remember thinking that if there was any game I would've been able to it would've been this one. I don't think I would've ever been one of the very top players, but maybe I would've been good enough to lose to Brian in a few tournies :P
And idk, the match at the end seems like a skill issue.
I started watching your content since the koopa clan/creme fresh days and I will continue watching it now into the future
Remember Bright Nebula. It was so epic
When I saw cF|Brian I got so emotional! I remembered the days when I was watching cream fresh dominating the tournaments and mainly you being my "idol" as a sniper. You, Dude and Kiver are the only ones from those days who I still follow and watch videos and streams till this day.

Nostalgia is realizing that Walleye was one of the best and most beloved maps in 1 and hated in 2 because of inkjet and stingray and missiles but mostly the first two

It’s crazy how today’s April 8th eclipse is so close to the servers shutting down. It’s like God himself is upset for the loss of S1’s official servers, and this wonderful first installment.

I played S1 for a little over a week before the shut down. It's really weird going back to the ProCon after using the gamepad. I keep looking at the controller and expecting to see the map there.
I am seriously going to miss this game.
