    Zygrene, invest in a probe pyro meter if you are interested in learning more about tyre temps and pressures. There's a ton to learn and experiment with. Hard to get enough time on a session based day as opposed to testing day with open pits, and also hard to get measures immediately after a hot lap (bring a friend!) but I thought I'd mentoin it. It's a good way to optimise tyres based on data as opposed to just feeling, both are useful.

    Nice runs, I have that same shifter knob in @BluestreakCorollaXRS! I want a mirror like that for @SparkyS2k (who also is an AP1 with a 22FC & aero! ); which one is it? Also, are you being sure to double clutch when you skip gears when downshifting?

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  6 років тому

      It's a Broadway mirror, so useful! I don't double clutch when skipping gears, is it really necessary?

    • @sparkys2k
      @sparkys2k 6 років тому

      I swear, that mirror will be even more important if you get a harness. Now, "Necessary" is a strong word, obviously you *can* skip gears without it. Good rev matching will help save your clutch, but double-clutching will help save your synchros. An AP1 synchro rebuild cost me $1500, so I feel like double-clutching is worth the effort to extend the life of my synchro gears. It becomes 2nd nature after a while. I recently recorded my foot work - not saying I'm any kind of expert - but you can see an example of going from 4 to 2 in the left hand hairpin about 10 seconds after where this link starts: ua-cam.com/video/uaCnlNd9QK0/v-deo.html Note that this video was recorded at a wonderful track called ORP - I see you've been at least as far North as Thunderhill - I'd love to go on track with you for some cooperative camera work - Let me know if you go to PIR, ORP or anything in Washington state! I'd like to do Thunderhill or Sonoma this year, but with my son heading out to college, this summer has more competition for my time than normal...

    • @KentBrakewell
      @KentBrakewell 6 років тому

      Zygrene I got the mirror and love it. I haven’t *really* tried it since my car’s been on jack stands, but I can tell I’m gonna love it on the track too

    Referring to 5:04, "good technique" is to downshift through all the gears? What's the advantage there? Thanks.

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  6 років тому

      With proper technique, downshifting consecutively through the gears would better utilize engine braking to help you slow the car down as quickly as possible. But it's hard to keep my right foot steady on the brake while blipping the throttle multiple times.

    • @icanturn6844
      @icanturn6844 6 років тому

      which method do you use for blipping? do you roll your foot over or do you stick your heel out?

    • @arjunaSan
      @arjunaSan 6 років тому

      lots of Best Motoring videos with a view of the heel-toe shifting. The s2k's brake/gas pedals aren't that close. I have to stick my out a little to blip the throttle.

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  6 років тому

      I have to roll my foot over. I should add an extension to the throttle pedal.

    • @cjones7854
      @cjones7854 6 років тому

      I see. That makes sense when you're really pushing it on the track. Ive never felt the need doing just touge driving. I don't think I could pull that off with my old worn out syncros anyway!

      Sorry to butt in here - hope it's OK - but I was just telling @Zygrene about this video where I did just that - not under the seat, but hanging down upside down to the right of my right knee. I even put a LED light down there to help illuminate the black-on-black shoes and mat. *Special Note*: I'm not Zygrene, so it won't help you see his footwork. This link starts the video toward the end after all of the music and tire warming is over... ua-cam.com/video/uaCnlNd9QK0/v-deo.html

    What are you thoughts on square setup for an ap1??

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  6 років тому

      Twitchy but a lot of fun. The wing really helps settle the rear end in higher speed corners. Wing + square seems like a good setup.
