- The current digital master* (right) for Felix the Cat: The Movie interestingly has a revised version of the mocap CGI Felix at the beginning with improved lipsync compared to the majority of other home video releases (left). When this retake was done is beyond me.
*UPDATE 19 NOV 2023: As of now, a true HD master of Felix exists. It uses the original version of the intro.
Wow, that CGI head on the left is burned into my memory as a child. It was very impressive to me as a kid in 1989.
It's STILL impressive to me that they were able to do that back in '89.
@@jeiku5041 well its just test spinning head not like entire short film
There never was a theme for Felix the Cat. He goes wherever the writers tell him to go.
That just means that there is no limit to whatever Felix can be, unlike a certain Mouse who nowadays is trying to be made into something mostly baby-ish by his parent company, thank the stars he's finally in the Public Domain, sort of.
@@skurvay3429 What do you mean by, 'Sort of'?
@@rilyboothe832 Well only his earliest form had it's copyright expire, and apparently Canada extended Their Copyright Laws so that Mickey is still not in the Public Domain, it's increasingly complicated.
I really liked the pseudo theme the Twisted Tales of Felix The Cat had. They were incredibly bizarre and strange but stuck to the “1920’s rubber hose, everything is alive and jiving to some swing music Daddy-O” vibe. It really fits Felix and played homage to his animation roots
@@skurvay3429 Just goes to show Disney can't keep Mickey outside of public domain forever even though they wish to do that. His earliest incarnation is in public domain now and soon the other classic Mickey cartoons in the early 30's will soon be public domain as well.
It almost reminds me of the beginning of _Super Mario 64,_ with that floating Mario head you could pull around with the hand!
We need an actual SM64 mod that does this
DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!
Super Felix 64
“Which one of our voices is more annoying?”
@@SSKO2 DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!! XD
Well done. I watched it a few times. I find the differences are more noticeable if you stare at the centre of the screen between the two images. Most notably the mouth movement.
Welcome back btw
0:22 Something tells me that the one on my right looks newly remastered. I wish that fully restored version of Felix The Cat The Movie was released on DVD in the United States of America. Just as Felix The Cat Saves Christmas.
This movie needs more respect
0:43 Never been there? That doesn't surprise me, they don't have an airport! Hahahaha!
What!? Why I never Noticed that, but sure there are two variation of this move just like what you said, but there have the one full ending credits music (All You Need Is Friends) which is hard to find since the stereo version was lost, thanks for this video!!
And I forgot to mention, the revised one have a special thanks message on the end credits the very last part
I never noticed that! :0
Hello! Could you post the full movie with subtitles?
brilliant work!
they better get an airport
This was such a strange and random way to start a movie. Anyone who even cared about the cgi just spent the screening wondering why the rest of the movie looked nothing like that.
They need to make a new Felix the Cat movie as an apology for this one.
Only God knows when the newer version is made and if they had the rough file in storage somewhere so that it can be tweaked and rerendered
Bizarre.
Do you have access to any of the versions with the messed up audio mix? I remember some time ago I wanted to get the same version that was in the Nostalgia Critic video because it was much easier to extract the background music, I remember a long time ago someone had a pretty clear isolated version of the "headhunters" cue but it's been long since deleted. There were also hints that Christopher L Stone uncovered his masters for the score but nothing really came of it...
the russian dvd has the original ultra stereo audio in a 5.1 mix. that might help
I believe you’re thinking of the Top Ten New Media region-free 2003 DVD release of the movie.
I have it. It's just a *little* unsyced.
This movie deserves better
Weird, the right one is on my Australian DVD so I basically don't remember the left one.
NTSC
God that fucking movie is so fucken weird
meh not worth the effort...if one can call it that...
