Hi, it's Lois here, today's demo looks at painting a misty autumn SILVER BIRCH/ASPEN forest in the late afternoon or early evening when the light as at its most beautiful: Golden Hour. I mask out the trunks in places first to try to preserve some pale areas of bark on the tree trunks.
My finished painting isn't entirely successful, but I learned a lot from painting it, and will be able to take what I have learned forward into my next painting.
I'm using raw sienna, burnt sienna, alizarin crimson, sap green and perylene green.
I'm not worried about keeping things perfect, but trying to suggest detail and looking for atmosphere, and light and shadow.
This scene is inspired by la photo from Pixabay: pixabay.com/ph...
I'm using Saunders Waterford cold pressed paper, 11" x 15"/28cms x 38cms, but use whichever size you prefer.
The focus is on painting loose, concentrating on staying loose and getting atmosphere, light and shadow across the landscape, trying to capture the light.

Beautiful painting! Our Dollar Tree store in USA has the Rubber Cement pickup eraser in the school supply aisle.

Que fácil resulta viendo como lo realiza!!!....para mí, es algo más complicado y menos vistoso. Saludos, Nieves.

I absolutely love this Lois, I think the trees turned out beautifully. I wonder if a wax candle might be better than masking fluid? Maybe I'll give it a go 🤔

Very much beautiful. One alternative to masking fluid could be using oil pastels.
