Hike to Kamrunag Temple/ Lake Bada Dev

Trip to Bada Dev Kamrunaag Temple, Kamrah, District Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Bada Dev/Deo is renowned deity of District Mandi as well as Himachal Pradesh. Kamrunaag Devta is also known as "Rain God" as devotee's believe that devta has power of controlling weather.
Kamrunaag Temple and lake are at distance of about 46 kms from District headquarters Mandi. We approached temple from shortest route Mandi- Chail Chowk- Devidarh Road. Last few kms were tough and we enjoyed off roading experience. After the end on car journey, we advanced with easy hike of 1.69 kms. We had started from Mandi at around 0530 hrs and reached last point of road at around 0720 hrs. We were welcomed by warm rays of sun which comforted us in cold weather.
Whole area is scenic with splendid wide view of Dhauladhar Ranges. The freshness, greenery and holiness of place gives travellers and devotee's mesmerizing experience.
Kamrunaag temple is small wooden temple and black coloured stone sculpture of devta is placed in centre. Lake and temple are co located. The holy lake is filled with gold/ silver ornaments offered by devotee's.
Devta has mentions in Mahabharata and as per tales devta had power of single handedly bringing victory to side he joined. So, Lord Krishna asked Devta to give him is head so that Devta can not join war of Mahabharata. Devta asked Lord Krishna to place his head in some high mountain, so Lord Krishna placed head of Devta in place where Kamrunaag Temple is built. The lake is believed to have been created by Pandva's.
Devta (Suraj Pankha/ Mohra/ Symbol) comes to Mandi each year during festival of Shivratri along with his Kaardar's by foot and hold centre place of fair. Devotee's of devta keep waiting for him throughout the year and invite devta to their houses during Shivratri fest.
People of Mandi and Himachal have lots of devotion towards devta and devta fulfils their wishes. People have devotion in Kamrunaag more than any other deity and lovingly call him Bada Deo.
