Just finished rereading a chapter from one of my favorite books from WWII “Blood Red Snow” by Gunter Koschorrek a German machine gunner who fought on the eastern front. It’s just so baffling to think that 80 years later the same thing is happening in the same place of the world. Your trenches are probably in the same spots as others from that time period. But one thing that’s spooky to think about was it even in the hell of WWII night time would offer some respite but nowadays that’s no longer the case with thermal optics and NVGs. Cant imagine how much more awful it would be with that tech on that scale and level of brutality.

@@karlfleming7182 It sounds harsh, but those who for money go to someone else's land to kill them in a war of aggression, are despicable and unworthy of sympathy. The point isn't that everybody must see them that way, but that doing it is fair/just/deserved. Being "poor" doesn't mitigate it at all. The cases where responsibility can diminish are those of abject misery, with imminent risk for physical survival. Scenarios like e. g. 'if I don't go and fight there, my children or I would die from starvation'. Or 'Kadyrov will murder my mother if I refuse'. There is a big difference between being poor and being threatened in the aforementioned way by misery or circumstances. Going to Ukraine to kill Ukrainians for money, which then would allow X to buy a Lada, or an apartment, or give this or that to his wife or children, in practice is at the same level of fair contemptibility as wanting the money for lots of Vodka.

As a German Veteran of the 23rd Gebirgsjägerbrigade (231st Bataillon) with 2 Tours in Afghanistan and 1 in Kosovo via KFOR, i gotta say, i feel so silly now that when we did extensive WW1-Style "Trench Warfare" Excercises with CQC in extreme Conditions as Gebirgsjäger, all of us were annoyed and angry about it, talking about how unecessary that is, and how it's the typical German Thing of teaching both Modern (worthwhile) but also very old and outdated (not worthwhile) Combat Strategies, because German Bureaucracy is so slow, it can't bother to update anything. Now over 10 Years later: We actually now train Ukrainian (and even some Foreign Volunteer) Soldiers in Harsh Weather & Trench Warfare! Turns out learning this kind of Combat suddenly is relevant again and now the Soldiers fighting in Ukraine come to us en Masse to learn about it. I definitely feel silly now that we made fun about having to learn all about this kind of Warfare back then, thinking it will never be useful Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps

War is always disgraceful, no matter what war it is.
@ war is not always disgraceful. Would going to war because another kingdom or country slaughtered 100,000 civilians in your capital be disgraceful?
War is not always a two player game. You can force peoples hand.
80 percent of deaths on the battlefield are caused by unseen munitions..artillery..mortars..my grandfather died in ww2 due to mortar fire..His death was not disgraceful. He died doing his job. He was a soldier..and died a soldier, full of grace.

First of all thank you for your service. Secondly the way you keep your spirits up and have a good sense of humour through it all is amazing. I was deployed in Iraq for a year and loved what I did and then I got shot in the left shoulder and arm and since my camp was so secluded so I had to be sent back home to Canada on a plane carrying fallen soldiers so I could get the help I needed. But even after all that I still felt like I had to go back to complete what I was there to do in the first place so 3 months later I was again sent to Iraq to the same group that I was with before and every single one of them were still alive and kicking and 1 year later all of us were sent home together as one. I hope that you are doing good and that you will have safe travels to wherever you’re called to next.

Cant imagine how much more awful it would be with that tech on that scale and level of brutality.
look up martin niemöllers poem...explains how we got there...my parents like this war...my grandpa didnt. go figure.

@@Arcgateway nah man not all of their soldiers are evil like that. I’m sure there are many Russian soldiers who have no choice but to be sent to this dreadful war to be killed with no choice. Now I know some Russian soldiers are evil based on the war crimes they committed in Bucha and elsewhere, but just think about it. Some of these Russian soldiers are guaranteed to be 18, 19 or 20 years of age. At that age you’re closer to a kid still than a fully grown adult. It must be terrifying and traumatic for them to be in this situation and they are simply following their orders because they simply want to survive. It’s usually not the soldiers who are evil but the officers, generals and ministers in power who are so
they died because BlackRock and Vanguard wanted our Donbass lithium deposits, think about it
@@karlfleming7182 It sounds harsh, but those who for money go to someone else's land to kill them in a war of aggression, are despicable and unworthy of sympathy.

I definitely feel silly now that we made fun about having to learn all about this kind of Warfare back then, thinking it will never be useful
